Everyone looked at each other and smiled. It seemed that everyone in the car had the same guess as Xiao Yao, and this guess seemed to have been confirmed now.
Huo Qianli took out a folded A4 paper from his pocket, unfolded it, and showed it to everyone, "This is the list of poor households in Zhuyang Village today. I want to change the format of this meal. Please come with me to have a meal and taste the daily meals of those poor households under our governance. There are nine families on this paper. Everyone choose one and go to their house for lunch today. If you don't know the way, there are people here to lead the way. Comrade Qingfeng, you choose first."
Taking the paper handed over by Huo Qianli, Cao Qingfeng glanced at the confused crowd with some evil taste, as if he was seeing himself who had just heard Huo Qianli's thoughts in the morning.
Huo Qianli looked at the people whose faces changed and who were somewhat restless, and said seriously: "The one that everyone chooses will be mine, and I will also go there honestly. I will eat whatever they eat. I know this is a bit embarrassing for everyone, but I hope everyone can cooperate."
"It's not a big deal. I think it's great. Just treat it as a unique political study session!" Cao Qingfeng smiled and took the pen, selected a line, and wrote his name. "I'll choose this one."
After finishing writing, he handed the paper and pen to Gao Yuanming.
Gao Yuanming took it hesitantly, looked at the burning eyes of the top two leaders, and reluctantly chose one.
There is even less to say for those behind, as those in front have already made their choices, and no matter how reluctant they are they have no choice but to follow their orders, otherwise they will have to decide whether to continue their careers in the officialdom.
After everyone had finished choosing, the list returned to Huo Qianli's hands. Huo Qianli signed his name on the last blank line, then folded the list and put it in his pocket. "Then please go, everyone. See you in the village committee office after dinner!"
Watching a group of town leaders, accompanied by the "guide party", disperse into various places in Zhuyang Village, Gao Qiang exclaimed in amazement, "Secretary Huo is really amazing!"
After saying that, he turned and entered the village committee, and hurried to make arrangements according to Huo Qianli's instructions.
Cao Qingfeng followed a villager and walked on the village road.
He had been to Zhuyang Village with Huo Qianli and had also been here alone, but now as he walked in the cool breeze in the forest, his mood was a little different from the previous times.
He asked, "How far do we have to go?"
The man leading the way was very respectful. He leaned sideways and bowed his waist and said, "It's not far. We'll get there after crossing a ditch."
Cao Qingfeng asked again: "Do you know that family?"
"know."
"How is his family situation?"
"Why!"
Before explaining the details, the man leading the way let out a long sigh.
"It's very annoying. He's over 40 years old, single, childless, and still has to rely on his 70-year-old wife for care. If it weren't for his two married sisters, who occasionally go to their in-laws for help, he might not be able to make ends meet. Whenever there's something going on in the village, he'd shamelessly come over to eat and drink for free. In the past, his mother was a good person, and everyone remembered the old times, so they just turned a blind eye."
Cao Qingfeng was stunned. "Don't you farm? Aren't there odd jobs in the industrial park now? Why don't you go out and work to earn money?"
The man sneered, "If you have hands and feet and are more diligent, you won't end up like this! To be honest, life is much better now than before, and the government policies are good too. If you really want to make money, there is no way out. It's just that he is like a puddle of mud, unable to climb the wall!"
Cao Qingfeng sighed and stopped talking.
After walking for nearly twenty minutes, the man leading the way pointed to a small bungalow in front and said, "Mayor Cao, that's where Youshengwa lives now."
Cao Qingfeng looked in the direction of his finger and saw that the bungalow in front of him was not very large, only about 70 or 80 square meters, built with red bricks, and looked simple and old.
Not far to the left and right of this house, there are a few other houses, but most of them are adobe houses, and it seems that this place was a settlement in the past.
Some of the houses have almost collapsed, either due to disrepair or some disaster. Only broken walls and rotten beams are left, bearing the brunt of the wind and rain.
Cao Qingfeng was puzzled and asked, "From this perspective, this family is not very poor. They can live in a red brick bungalow while others live in mud houses."
The man chuckled, "This house is mine. I built a building next to the road, and I won't live in this house anyway, so I gave it to him out of pity. His house was originally there."
The man pointed to a half-collapsed adobe house. Cao Qingfeng pulled the corner of his mouth awkwardly and said, "Let's go."
When we arrived at the door of the bungalow, we could already see smoke rising from the kitchen.
Two piles of broken bricks formed a shelf, on which was placed a broken door panel.
An old woman stood in front of the door and reached out to grab a handful of wild vegetables that Cao Qingfeng couldn't recognize from a plastic bucket filled with water. There were still water droplets dripping from the roots, and the water in the plastic bucket was turbid.
The old woman placed the vegetables directly on the door panel, picked up an iron knife with a rusty handle, and cut the wild vegetables into small pieces.
Then he scooped up the vegetables with an iron knife and put them into the tin pot on the stove nearby.
It was this movement of turning around that allowed her to see Cao Qingfeng and the man leading the way standing at the side of the house.
"Hey, Yousheng, walk faster, come and sit down."
The old woman quickly greeted the man and turned around to look for a bench.
The man stepped forward quickly and said, "Auntie, don't look for me anymore. I'll just stand there for a while."
"Brother Sheng! The official is here?"
