At the end of this eventful day, three men sat around a table in a private room of the town's most popular barbecue restaurant.
"Secretary Huo, I've heard a lot about you. Here's a toast to you!"
Mr. Cai picked up his beer glass and raised it respectfully.
Huo Qianli was very humble. He smiled and clinked his glasses, "Welcome Mr. Cai to our Qianfu Town. The conditions are limited and the environment is a bit shabby. Please forgive me."
Mr. Cai quickly smiled and said, "No, no, this kind of place has the atmosphere of a gathering with friends, haha."
Tang Yuxuan held the bamboo skewer horizontally and pulled off a bunch of tender beef that was grilled to perfection. He chewed it for a few times and smiled. "I said we should go to Hushan Restaurant, but Xiao Cai said that the occasion was too formal and we were not having a business banquet. I thought so too. Barbecue and beer are more suitable for us young people!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Huo Qianli and Mr. Xiao Cai, who were about to drink, stopped what they were doing, turned their heads to look him up and down, and blinked in confusion.
Tang Yuxuan rolled his eyes. "Fuck, why are you looking at me like that? I was born in 1987 and I'm not even 30 yet!"
Huo Qianli hummed, "I understand."
Mr. Cai nodded, "Seven or eight."
As they said this, they both laughed in tacit understanding and clinked their glasses again to drink up.
With this, the politeness and awkwardness of the initial meeting dissipated, and the atmosphere quietly became warmer.
Mr. Cai reached out and took a skewer of slightly charred, greasy pork belly, and said, "I've always heard Brother Tang talk about Secretary Huo. When we met today, I felt that Brother Tang should read more books and learn more adjectives. Language is really too expensive."
Tang Yuxuan yelled, "That's enough, that's enough, I've accomplished my mission, please stop grabbing me and pulling me out!"
Huo Qianli laughed, "Boss Cai, I'll toast to you. You helped to solve a big problem for our town this time. Thank you!"
"Secretary Huo, you're too polite!"
Mr. Cai did one with Huo Qianli and said with a smile: "Secretary Huo, I heard Brother Tang talk about your past. To be honest, I admire you very much. Now that I heard that I could be of use, you came here as fast as you can!"
Lao Tang said at the side: "A rich second generation like him who has no worries about food and clothing likes to achieve spiritual satisfaction by building achievements and benefiting the local people. He has no idea what we have been through. I think we are just idle."
Mr. Cai did not refute this somewhat sarcastic remark between friends. He smiled bitterly and said, "Although I cannot reach it, my heart longs for it. My father often told me how this country went from having nothing to being strong and prosperous now, and how their generation went from being farmers with their faces facing the loess and their backs to the sky to where they are now. He told me to pay more attention to and learn more about the development of the country, and to explore and feel from the changes around me how the country is quietly changing a society."
He raised his eyebrows and chewed a piece of meat. "My dad said that once I have mastered this, he can hand over the job to me without any worries. It makes me sound like I really want to take over his job, haha!"
"This is great. It not only satisfies my spiritual needs, but I can also learn something."
Huo Qianli smiled and said, "Many people think that the policy is empty, but in fact, in our country, the wealth code is indeed written on the surface, just like a code book. It depends on whether you can decipher it."
Mr. Cai nodded. "Indeed, I used to think that local officials just sat in their offices to hold meetings, and then ate, drank, and sang with business people who had connections with them like flies. They lived a carefree life and made money. Later, as I grew up and watched the changes in various parts of the country, I gradually understood the difficulties and complexities of local work."
"Then I have to offer a toast to Mr. Cai. Those who know me well will know that I am worried!" Huo Qianli raised his glass with a smile.
"Count me in. I've had a lot of contact with Brother Huo in the past few years, and I've actually changed a lot." Lao Tang was a tactful man. He knew when to be serious and when to joke. He immediately stopped joking and picked up his glass.
The glass clinked with a crisp sound and the wine poured into the throat.
Mr. Cai peeled a boiled peanut and said, "Speaking of this, I have been to the Hushan Village Committee to see the development of Hushan Village in recent years. It is hard to imagine that only seven or eight years ago, this was a provincial poverty-stricken village. Now it is not inferior to many rural areas around Jincheng. Secretary Huo has made great contributions!"
Huo Qianli also had a happy smile on his face. This was an experience worth recalling in his past life. He was somewhat unavoidable to be praised in person, but being modest by nature, he still waved his hand and said, "I just came up with a few ideas. The real key to this achievement is the understanding and support of the superiors, the hard work of the village cadres at the same level, and the self-reliance of the villagers."
He glanced at Tang Yuxuan, then picked up the bottle and poured it for Mr. Cai. "Besides, the road ahead is long, and now is far from the time to stop."
Mr. Cai held up the wine glass with his hand and asked curiously, "I've heard Brother Tang mention it a few times. Is it about the parent-child study base?"
Huo Qianli nodded. "Yes, now the whole town has only Hushan Village standing out, and Jinma and Mingfeng villages are just following suit. The rest of the villages have hardly benefited from it. It's certainly a good thing for Hushan Village, but from the perspective of the whole town, it's not a very healthy structure."
Mr. Cai seemed to be thinking about something, and then asked in confusion: "But, isn't this parent-child study base still located in Hushan Village?"
“This is different.”
Huo Qianli smiled, then broke down his overall idea and told it to Mr. Cai.
He did not keep it secret, because it was not something that needed to be kept secret. The rumor had already spread, and once it was confirmed, it would be announced to the whole town.
