How could Captain Wang dare to stay overnight? His wife at home was not one to be bothered with. He just peeped in for a few times and then left after satisfying his desire.
The vegetables in the garden were now ready to eat. Mother Qiu took advantage of Father Qiu's time chatting with her to pick quite a few, and a red willow basket with a handle was filled to the brim with them.
Fortunately, the night in the countryside was beautiful. Captain Wang declined the invitation, carried his daughter, who looked regretful, onto the beam of the car, and walked away under the envious gazes of the crowd.
"Pfft." Qiu Dashu couldn't help laughing out loud.
"Your classmate has a tiger at home, right? I've never seen a kid who doesn't love home so much, hahaha..."
Qiu Yuling: “…”
At most there is a tigress, but she must be a tigress who loves her, otherwise how would she have the courage to "act foolishly".
After seeing off the guests, Mother Qiu cleaned up the mess quickly, and Qiu Yuling rolled up her sleeves and followed suit.
There was less oil and water these days, and the pots and pans were easy to wash. Both of them worked very efficiently and finished the job in no time.
Following Qiu Yuling's beautiful description, Mother Qiu followed her daughter into her little room. Her daughter had said she wanted it decorated this way and that way, and although she wasn't the type to take on all the responsibilities, she did have a lot of concerns about her daughter.
The newspapers they brought were rarely whole sheets, but mostly torn and broken. In addition, due to improper storage at the purchasing station, there were many creases and tears.
Qiu Yuling picked up the book first, and when she had time she would carefully examine it to see if it was useful. Qiu's mother turned on the kerosene lamp and helped to flatten the newspaper carefully. She also tore off some edges and corners that were about to fall off and flattened them, intending to use them as the base for making a jacket later.
Qiu Yuling asked her mother what she would do with the box: should she repair it and keep it for use at home, or chop it up and use it as firewood?
It was a small box. Mother Qiu took it and wondered if it could be used as a household item. Unexpectedly, it was quite heavy. She only used one hand and was not holding it firmly. It hit the edge of the kang and almost knocked over the kang table.
Qiu Yuling was only focused on holding the kerosene lamp when she heard her mother exclaim, "Yuling, shine the light closer."
Qiu Yuling pretended not to know and moved to the edge of the kang with the kerosene lamp in hand. "Mom, did you bump your leg?"
"No, something fell down." Mother Qiu took the lamp and almost screamed when she got closer. She tried to calm herself down and said to Qiu Yuling, "Go, call your father."
Qiu Yuling obediently slipped on her shoes and went to the main room to call her father. After a while, Qiu's father, Qiu Dashan and Qiu Dashu came over.
"Her mother, Yuling called us over anxiously, what happened?"
Mother Qiu had suppressed her excitement, but her heart was still beating fast. She trembled and whispered, as if afraid of being heard, "Her father, please take a quick look. I'm afraid I made a mistake."
Father Qiu followed his words and came closer to Mother Qiu, and what he saw were two dim little goldfish.
"Oh my god, mom, where did this come from?" Qiu Dashu was shocked after he came closer to take a closer look, and asked in disbelief.
Mother Qiu pointed to the box beside the kang table and said, "I didn't know how to hold it properly, and I knocked it against the edge of the kang with one hand."
"Ah?" Mr. Qiu and the others opened their mouths in disbelief.
It was Qiu Yuling who reminded her, "Check where it came from."
"Yes, yes, take another look, take more looks." Father Qiu spoke incoherently.
Mother Qiu asked Qiu Dashan to check whether the door was locked from the inside, and asked her youngest son to get an axe. Thinking that she didn't want to ruin her daughter's new house, the group carried the box carefully to the main room.
Father Qiu used a hatchet to tear the box into pieces bit by bit. Except for Qiu Yuling who was pretending, everyone else's hearts were stuck in their throats, as if they were about to jump out if they opened their mouths.
"Ten dollars, Dad, a full ten dollars for the little goldfish!" Qiu Dashu swallowed his saliva, feeling his throat was very dry.
Mother Qiu was no less upset, she felt dizzy. Qiu Yuling looked excited, but she was actually calm inside. She had spent so much money to buy this little goldfish. Fortunately, she only planned to do this once. If she did it twice, she would probably lose everything.
She spent fifty points to pay the system mall for the box, and she made sure that even after putting ten small fish in it, there wouldn't be any trace of "her" left.
Over the past year or so, she has gotten a pretty good idea of the Qiu family's financial situation. There is no pretense at all; they are so poor that even a mouse wouldn't visit them.
Without original purchasing power, how can we build a tall building on flat ground?
In less than five years, the ten years of turmoil would begin. She didn't want to stand out as a genius in her haste to become independent, and she was even more afraid of having to face the movement directly. So she could only make the Qiu family's foundation better so that they would have more money to "support her."
The family fought and fought, and finally, after Qiu's father knelt in tears and thanked his ancestors in four directions, he was awakened by a slap from Qiu's mother.
"Look carefully, how could your ancestors be so wealthy? This is the blessing brought by your daughter." Mother Qiu said unhappily.
"Yes, yes, it's our Lingling's good fortune." Father Qiu responded quickly.
"Don't forget my third brother." Qiu Yuling reminded.
"My children are all blessed, all of them are blessed." Father Qiu chuckled and could only smile foolishly.
However, Qiu Dashu did not claim this blessing. The place was chosen by his sister, and the things were picked by his sister. He was just an assistant and not worthy of nomination.
After tossing and turning for half the night, she finally calmed down. Mother Qiu decided on the spot to buy ten small yellow croakers in total. There were six people in the family, and two pieces for each of the four children. The money would be included in the amount for their future marriage, childbirth and living. The remaining two pieces would be for the old couple.
She has to live a frugal life and not show any difference in public. Secondly, Qiu Yuling is not allowed to go to that place again, lest someone with ulterior motives come back and target her.
Qiu Yuling watched her two brothers hurriedly refuse and unanimously requested that Mother Qiu take overall charge of the arrangements. This was not something they had earned, and they didn't want anything except for their younger sister's share.
Qiu Yuling thought about it and said that she didn't want it either, but she begged her parents to exchange it for a piece so that she could quietly buy some things for the family. She didn't even have an aluminum lunch box, and even now she had to eat dry food if she didn't go home at noon.
Mr. and Mrs. Qiu agreed. They said they would give it to the children, but they didn't give it directly to them. They just kept it among them for fair distribution. Whether they wanted it or refused it, they had the final say on how to spend it.
However, her four children are not what she brags about. Although they may not have any special abilities, they all have very good personalities.
After saying so much, the question becomes where to change.
However, this is not something that a "little kid" like Qiu Yuling should interfere with.
Mr. and Mrs. Qiu chased everyone to sleep, and she and her pseudo-head of the family went out in the dark to hide the treasure.
