Chapter 46 On the Train

Qiu Yuling washed the dishes, filled the water tank, and took advantage of the fact that there were few people around to go to the toilet.

After I came back and packed up my things, I put my bag back and stuffed it under the seat, then asked my grandma if she wanted to go to the bathroom.

I took my grandma to the toilet on the train again.

Today's green trains are not as stable as the high-speed trains of later generations. Qiu Yuling was worried that the old lady would not be able to stand steadily. Fortunately, the grandma came out safely.

The old man was just very curious about the hole, so he flushed it clean with a "gulp".

The three of them had hardly slept last night. Now that they were full and satisfied, and the train was heading west, there was nothing to see on the road except the endless Gobi Desert and scattered tree trunks, so they prepared to lie down and take a nap.

When they woke up again, the train had stopped and the two upper bunks in their compartment were occupied.

It was a young couple with a child. Perhaps it was inconvenient to bring the child to the upper bunk, so they were preparing to move to the lower bunk.

"Look, it's just a convenience for you. It's really inconvenient for me to climb up and down with the child. Besides, I can't get up there."

The woman holding the child seemed somewhat aggressive.

"Why would you go up and do anything about it? You start yelling and you don't even recognize me, and you act like it's your turn?"

The girl in the middle bunk opposite is a person who likes to stand up for the weak.

"I didn't ask you to change, why are you butting in my mouth? You really don't need to be taught."

"We are all children of the Party. Someone will take care of injustices and clear uneven roads. I won't let you off the hook. What's wrong with that?"

Neither of them showed any weakness.

On the other hand, the middle-aged man in the lower bunk shyly lifted the sheet, pointed at his empty trouser legs and said with a wry smile, "I'm sorry, comrade, it's really inconvenient for me, I just didn't get a word in."

"Comrade, thank you for your righteous words. Thank you for your trouble along the way."

It seems that the girl in the middle bunk knew that the man in the lower bunk was a disabled person, and this was probably not the first quarrel they had had along the way.

The new woman then shut up awkwardly, put the child on the middle bunk where Qiu Yuling was sitting, and climbed over. The man who had just been with her disappeared after putting down his luggage, and now he came back late, saying that he couldn't find an empty lower bunk.

The woman above her head was shaking off dust as if she was giving him a watering, and she was slapping the bed loudly.

Qiu Yuling looked at the enamel pot on the dining table and thought it was a good thing that it had a lid.

The girl opposite was about to open her mouth to choke someone, but she didn't expect that the person in the middle bunk above Qiu Yuling also came over.

A sturdy man, the kind that looks not to be messed with at first glance.

He came in, stayed for a moment, then went out, muttered, "Middle bunk 12, car 15, that's right," and came back in.

"Comrade, please check your ticket again to see if you are sitting in the wrong seat." The man's voice was as loud as a bell.

"I, let me see, it seems I'm sitting in the wrong place."

The woman didn't even ask if she could change seats, she just moved to the upper bunk with the child without saying a word.

The man who was traveling with her was sleeping soundly on the upper bunk on the other side, as if he had endless sleep.

From then on, the six beds in this box were full.

After all these twists and turns, it was already two o'clock in the afternoon.

It was already ten o'clock when Qiu Yuling and her group got on the bus to have breakfast. She didn't eat lunch with everyone else, and now she was woken up and felt hungry.

She poured some water for grandma to drink first, and then she went to call her fourth uncle to come for dinner.

Qiu Yuling skillfully took out the lunch box and a palm-sized ceramic pot with a lid.

She first put the jelly that had been cut in advance in the basin into the lunch box, then grabbed a handful of crushed peanuts and put them on top, scooped the topping out of the ceramic jar and poured it on the jelly.

Li Qingtong ate on the chair in the aisle, while Qiu Yuling ate with her grandmother at the dining table next to the lower bunk.

On a hot summer day, a bowl of sour and spicy jelly instantly captures the taste buds of three generations of grandparents and grandchildren.

The child on the upper bunk started crying again at an inappropriate time. The woman tried to comfort him softly at first, but the child started crying louder and louder, and the woman seemed to become more irritated.

It was difficult to turn over in the small space, let alone with a child. She screamed and just as she looked up, she felt something fell down. She reflexively reached out to catch it.

But the man in the middle bunk reached out and grabbed the child. It turned out that the child in the upper bunk had rolled over and fallen down. Qiu Yuling had already stood up and held the child with her hands. The man slowly let go, and she held the child firmly and sat back in her bunk.

The woman seemed to have regained her soul. She staggered down from the upper bunk, picked up the child, and thanked the person in the middle bunk and Qiu Yuling with a sobbing voice and lowered brows.

And her man seemed to have finally woken up and asked if the child was okay.

The woman picked up the child, pursed her lips and said nothing. The child was so scared that he forgot to cry. The woman patted the child while holding him and walked out of the box.

Li Qingtong swallowed the last mouthful of jelly and said, "This is too scary. Yuling, pass me a scallion roll. I'll dip it in the sauce."

Eat, eat, eat, Uncle Qingtong only knows how to eat. Qiu Yuling helplessly took out two steamed buns and handed them over.

There were minor setbacks but no major accidents, and Qiu Yuling coaxed her grandma to finish the jelly.

It’s hot now, so I have to finish this jelly today, otherwise it will go bad.

The girl opposite had not eaten anything since morning, and now she got out of the middle bunk. She sat on the lower bunk opposite, pretending to be casual and kept peeking at the jelly in Qiu Yuling's house.

"Little sister, can I buy you a portion of what you're eating?"

Originally, Qiu Yuling planned to make her go from being ignored to being out of reach, but considering her previous righteous behavior, she decided to share the remaining jelly with her.
