Chapter 65: Go Fishing

Qiu Yuling insisted on not going into the water so early in the morning. She walked a few steps forward and came over on the big rocks in the stream. Wu Tiejun glanced at his plastic sandals and thought that if he had known not to go into the water, he would have worn sneakers.

"Yuling, Tiejun, you're out so early."

Qiu Yuling was just paying attention to her feet when she suddenly heard someone calling her. She was startled and jumped over the last stone and stopped. She looked and saw that it was Dr. Duan.

"Hello, Aunt Duan. Are you out here so early to pick herbs?" Duan Yao was carrying a large basket with a rope and a small shovel inside. It was obvious that she was out here to pick herbs.

"Well, I saw a lot of fruit that day that I could use, so I wanted to dig as much as possible and take it back to dry. In a couple of days, the fruit will be picked on a large scale in the forest, so I'll trample it."

"Hey, I'm going to help Aunt Yuling build a tomato rack." Maybe because Dr. Duan didn't treat them as children, his answers were relatively complete. Wu Tiejun answered without asking, and explained what he was going to do in just a few words.

"Then get busy." After the two children moved the stones away for crossing the river, Duan Yao said no more, picked up the basket and crossed the river carefully.

Qiu Yuling felt strange. Doctor Duan had given her the impression of being rather aloof and indifferent to others before. But why did he explain things so clearly to the two children just now?

Besides, didn't she just have a miscarriage? She should have gotten more rest!

Wu Tiejun on the side was chattering about this and that, and Qiu Yuling responded incoherently, but she was thinking in her heart that she didn't know what was strange and felt it was out of place.

"Grandma Li, we are here." Wu Tiejun didn't know when it started, but he followed Qiu Yuling in calling grandma. Once, he was so quick to talk that he even called his aunt.

It turned out that he hadn't even called out to anyone many times before.

"Sit down first and take a break." Grandma Yuling poured a bowl of tea for each of them. She and her daughter had just picked out the tangled vegetable seedlings when Yuling came back with Wu Tiejun holding branches.

"Tiejun has helped our Yuling again. Let's go to my aunt's house for lunch at noon." Li Qinglian had no children before and had never dealt with the children in the camp. She only heard other people's sisters-in-law sometimes talk about how naughty and mischievous someone in the camp was, especially the bad boy from Political Commissar Wu's family, who would pick up a passing grasshopper and slap it twice before leaving.

Now that I have met him, I know that the rumors outside are not true. Tiejun is much better than those so-called good kids.

He doesn't fight or take advantage of others, and he's always willing to help others. Yuling has been here for so long, and he's the first friend she's made. This shows that he's not exclusive, and he sympathizes with the young. He's full of masculinity at such a young age!

If Political Commissar Wu and his wife knew that their son would one day receive such an evaluation, they would probably wake up laughing in their dreams.

Qiu Yuling has been influenced by her family for more than a year. Although she cannot be said to be a good worker, she is definitely not ignorant or lazy.

After drinking tea, they began to help set up the scaffolding. Seeing that sister Yuling was busy, Wu Tiejun wanted to add to the trouble. Fortunately, the general gave proper instructions, so he replaced Li Qingju. Grandma took charge of the overall ideas, Qiu Yuling took care of the details, and Wu Tiejun did the hard work.

"Hey, Tiejun is helping Captain Zhou's family today. If he becomes a good hand, your grandmother will have less to worry about later."

The one who spoke was the one with the blue headscarf by the Tianhe River. "Sister Hongxia is here to tidy up the vegetable garden too?" Li Qingju poured a bowl of tea and handed it over.

"I was halfway out when I remembered that I left the kettle by the door. It was all because of my fourth child who was making a fuss. He was looking around and pulling things all over the place." Zhang Hongxia didn't hesitate and took the bowl and drank it all.

Her husband is the commander of the Third Regiment, Li Aiguo. She was a child bride who fled to the Li family when she was young. However, her parents-in-law are very nice to her, and she has an emotional foundation with her husband. She followed the army very early and moved all the way from the dugout to the barracks. It has been quite a while.

She now has four children. The fourth child who is said to be annoying was born last autumn. He is almost one year old now and is at the age of being annoying.

"Xiao Si has grown legs now, which makes him even more tiring. He just wanted to come with us, so I asked the eldest brother to coax him over to eat rice soup." After drinking the water and returning the bowl, Zhang Hongxia continued talking to herself.

"That's how kids are. They don't care if you're inside, but they'll make a fuss and follow whoever goes out." Yuling discovered that although her grandmother was not the kind of old lady who talked a lot, she could still chat with anyone outside.

"Aunt Zhang, why didn't Li Penghai come to help you?" Zhang Hongxia often boasted about her good son in front of his grandmother, saying that he could do this and that well, and every day she instigated the old lady to compare herself with him. Wu Tiejun was curious why he was not there at this moment.

"Hey~ I went fishing in the reservoir upstream with Dahu and Xiaohu." As soon as Zhang Hongxia saw Wu Tiejun's nonchalant and witty look, she knew that this brat was holding back his anger and trying to make up for it, so she didn't hide it and told him where he went to play.

Wu Tiejun couldn't sit still when he heard this. Yesterday, Dahu and Xiaohu had talked to him about going fishing today, but he had completely forgotten about it.

"Tiejun, go and play quickly. You've finished the work in the fields. What's the point of wasting time with us?" When Yuling's grandmother saw that Wu Tiejun was distracted, she knew that the boy's heart was elsewhere, so she simply let Qiu Yuling go out to play.

"Then don't worry, Grandma Li. I will take good care of Sister Yuling and won't let her be in any danger." Wu Tiejun originally wanted to play with Qiu Yuling and go fishing, but now he heard that both were good things at once, and he jumped for joy.

"Don't worry." Grandma Yuling was not worried about Wu Tiejun, she was worried about her own granddaughter. She would definitely not touch that dangerous place.

"Come on, Sister Yuling, let's go to my house and get a fish basket first. Then you'll see how I show you my skills."

"Hey, Tiejun, wait a minute. If you go home again, please take this bag of tomatoes back to your grandma. I won't have to make a special trip." Li Qingju's vegetables are better this year. They were sent by her eldest sister at the beginning of the year.

Not only were the vegetables in other people's homes sparse, with only half of them harvested after half of the crops were planted, but the vegetables in her garden were eaten up early. She saved up several cans of vegetables, planning to make some tomato sauce if she didn't have enough to eat them all later. It was just right that she had nothing to eat in the winter, so she could have some more vegetables.

Wu Tiejun had already jumped a long way before he took the call, so Qiu Yuling turned back and brought it up. Not to mention the neighbors visiting each other, she had to express her regret for the fact that the child had voluntarily come to the fields and worked there for so long.

"Hey, Sister Yuling, I didn't hear you. Bring it here and let me carry it. I'm very strong."

It was just a small bag of tomatoes, and it was not worth tearing it apart, so Qiu Yuling handed it over. Wu Tiejun thought she was walking too slowly, so he naturally took Qiu Yuling's hand, took his left leg and stepped with his right foot, and walked home quickly.
