Chapter 8 Lost Soul

An Rugu lived in the village chief's home until she was six years old. She remembered things very early and was very smart since she was a child. Her childhood memories are still very deep in her mind. Apart from her master, the people closest to her are the village chief's family.

When An Rugu heard this, he paused, his expression gradually became cautious, and he put the thing in his hand directly into his pocket: "Take me to see it."

The village chief lives next to the village committee. He used to live in a mud-brick house. After his children grew up, they decided to build a three-story Western-style house for their parents. It looks even more exquisite and beautiful than the small villas built in foreign countries.

Fortunately, the villagers of Tangchi Village are all well-off, and their houses are more beautiful than each other, so the village chief's house is not very eye-catching.

As soon as An Rugu stepped into the gate, the village chief's daughter-in-law Liu Sang saw her, her eyes lit up, and she immediately walked over.

She looked at An Rugu, her eyes full of surprise: "When did you come back? Why didn't you tell Auntie?"

An Rugu treated the elderly very well, especially to Liu Sang in front of him. His expression softened, as stunning as melting ice and snow: "I just came back and didn't know you were here, otherwise I would have come a long time ago."

The village chief has two sons and one daughter. Liu Sang is the eldest daughter-in-law of the village chief. She is a Chinese teacher at Nancheng No. 1 High School. She usually lives in the city with her husband and does not live in her hometown.

After An Rugu was picked up by the old Taoist priest, she was entrusted to the village chief. Originally, she was to be taken care of by the village chief's wife, but Liu Sang had just gotten married and was relatively free. She liked An Rugu, who was cute and obedient at the time, so she took the initiative to take on the task for herself.

How good is the relationship?

If the village chief had not said that the old Taoist priest had no intention of adopting An Rugu, Liu Sang would have wanted to adopt An Rugu long ago.

When An Rugu was in school, all the Chinese language materials she had were sorted out by Liu Sang, and there were also many top-secret papers of other subjects that Liu Sang had asked colleagues for. Those novel and strange question types were very interesting to practice, and they improved her memory palace.

Even after Liu Sang gave birth to her own child a few years ago, she did not treat her coldly. During the four years in the dormitory, Liu Sang called her to express her condolences more often than her master.

The relationship between Liu Sang and An Rugu is like that of mother and daughter, and also like sisters.

"It just so happens that the school is on vacation, so I'll bring Jingjing back to see grandpa and grandma."

Liu Sang looked An Rugu up and down, her eyes full of tenderness. The more she looked, the more excited she became. The little girl she raised had turned out to be so outstanding!

An Rugu was worried about Liu Sang's daughter Jiang Jingjing. She rushed here just for her, so she took the initiative to walk in: "I heard that Jingjing was sick, how is she?"

Jiang Jingjing is eight years old this year and looks lovely. When she was one month old, An Rugu went to drink her full moon wine. When visiting the village chief during festivals, he often saw her, so he could be said to have watched her grow up.

When Liu Sang heard this, the joy on his face faded, his brows knitted, and he couldn't stop worrying: "I don't know the specific reason, but it's just very strange. You will know when you see her."

An Rugu followed her past memories and walked to Liu Sang's room. There was a little girl lying on the bed, with sweat on her face and pale lips. She seemed to be having a nightmare and muttered to herself, "Don't...don't!"

Liu Sang followed An Rugu in, her tone full of worry, and explained to An Rugu: "Jingjing played well with the children in the village. When she came back, she was as excited as a bird entering the forest. She said she wanted to play house with them. I have seen them play house. They just use those mud and bricks to make a stove and pretend to cook. It's not dangerous.

Jingjing doesn't have many opportunities to get in touch with nature in the city, so I told them to be safe and not run around, and then I left them alone."

She said worriedly: "When we were having lunch, she came back with her skirt wet with muddy water, which was normal at the time. But after I gave her a bath and asked her to eat, she told me that she was very sleepy and wanted to sleep.

So I left some food for her. I was afraid she might get hungry, so I called her to get up and eat, but she wouldn’t wake up no matter how hard I called her.”

Liu Sang told her parents-in-law about this. Her father-in-law took two puffs of his cigarette, and then ran out as if he had thought of something, probably to call a doctor at the entrance of the village. But the doctor didn't come, but An Rugu did.

The village chief was not as fast as An Rugu. He hurried back home and saw his granddaughter who was almost unconscious. He was very worried: "Xiao Gu, come and see if she is possessed by evil spirits?"

When he thought of this strange disease that couldn't be awakened even by shouting, he immediately thought of being possessed by evil spirits.

When he was a child, there were children in his village who had the same symptoms. At that time, there was a profession called a witch in the neighboring village. After the witch performed a few mysterious operations, the child would be cured in a few days.

"Possessed? How could this be possible?!"

Liu Sang's eyes fell on the village chief and An Rugu, his eyes full of doubts. A light bulb suddenly lit up in his mind and he frowned slightly: "Ah? Dad, didn't you go to the village entrance to call a doctor?"

As a staunch atheist, Liu Sang never believed in gods or ghosts.

Liu Sang knew that An Rugu was studying with the old Taoist priest, and he had always disapproved of it. He thought that the career of metaphysics was a sunset career, and social recognition was not particularly high, so he didn't want An Rugu to work in the metaphysics industry after graduation.

But Liu Sang didn't dare to say such things in front of An Rugu.

Because every time she mentioned it indirectly before, An Rugu would explain to her in a serious manner that gods and ghosts exist.

She failed to convince An Rugu, but was almost convinced by the other party.

The village chief also knew Liu Sang's character. He smiled awkwardly and fumbled in his pocket for a cigarette, but when he saw Liu Sang out of the corner of his eye, his hands trembled and he dared not move.

Liu Sang was very protective of her son and never let him smoke in front of Jiang Jingjing. The village chief did not dare to disobey her decision, otherwise he would be scolded like a student.

I can't save my face.

The village chief coughed lightly, his eyes wandering: "Oh, Xiao Gu plans to continue to manage Chuyun Temple. Maybe she is really capable. Let her see first."

Liu Sang glanced at his unreliable father-in-law, sighed quietly, and had no intention of talking to An Rugu. He turned around and wanted to leave, wanting to find a doctor himself.

As a result, at this moment, An Rugu put his hand on Jiang Jingjing's head, as if he had received some information, then he withdrew his hand and put it in his pocket, and took out the Five Emperors' Coins.

She held the Five Emperors' Coins in one hand and gently lifted the back of Jiang Jingjing's head with the other hand, lifted Jiang Jingjing's head up, and put the red rope around Jiang Jingjing's neck.

Liu Sang caught sight of An Rugu's actions and was extremely surprised. He stopped and asked in surprise: "What are you doing?"

Before An Rugu could answer, something magical happened right under everyone's eyes.

When the Five Emperors' Coins were completely put around Jiang Jingjing's neck and the ancient coins touched Jiang Jingjing, Jiang Jingjing's eyelids trembled, and then slowly opened, revealing round and watery eyes.

She saw her mother and grandfather were beside her, she blinked, and then she was so scared that she burst into tears: "Mom, I just had a nightmare!"

Liu Sang: “!!!”

village head:"!!!"

Liu Sang's jaw almost dropped, his eyes full of surprise. He hurried to the bedside, held up his daughter's face, looked left and right and found nothing wrong. Only then did he feel sure that he was not dreaming.

"What did you dream about?"

“I dreamed that I fell into the water.”

Liu Sang comforted her sobbing daughter: "It's okay, it's okay, mom is here."

After Jiang Jingjing calmed down, she sniffed her nose and thought of her mother's strange expression. She asked curiously, "Why do you have such strange expressions? Oh, why is Sister An here too?"

Jiang Jingjing looked at An Rugu curiously. Although she was young, she was obsessed with looks. She liked beautiful people since she was a child, and the most beautiful An Rugu received her greatest attention and love. Every time An Rugu came to her house to stay, she was very happy. After An Rugu left, she would even hide in the quilt and cry.

Liu Sang complained, "You slept for four or five hours and I couldn't wake you up no matter how hard I called you."

Jiang Jingjing was also very surprised when she heard this. She was immersed in her own prowess and whispered to herself, "How can I sleep so well?"

Liu Sang's eyes fell on the Five Emperors' Coins on Jiang Jingjing's chest. A huge wave of emotion surged in his heart and his eyes were filled with horror.

She saw it clearly just now. An Rugu had just put the Five Emperors' Coins on her daughter and her daughter woke up!

If it had nothing to do with the money An Rugu gave to her daughter, she would never believe it even if she was beaten to death.

All these details made Liu Sang's worldview shaky. He swallowed his saliva, nervously held up the Five Emperors' Coins in his hands, and stared at the coins cautiously.

Literature and history are inseparable. As a Chinese teacher, she has a deep understanding of history and can recognize every coin here. Kaiyuan Tongbao, Song and Yuan Tongbao...

An Rugu actually has so many priceless ancient coins!

Liu Sang turned his head and looked at An Rugu, puzzled: "What is this money for?"

"Five Emperors' Coins, a magical tool used to ward off evil spirits."

Liu Sang: “!!!”

Liu Sang's throat rolled up and down. The facts she saw and her worldview had a huge conflict, making her very confused: "So Jingjing is really possessed?"

It turns out that An Rugu and her father-in-law were not wrong, but she was the one who was wrong?

An Rugu shook his head: "No."

Liu Sang heaved a sigh of relief and patted his chest: "That's good, that's good."

An Rugu: "She has lost her soul."

Liu Sang: “!!!”

"The Five Emperors' Coins can only temporarily relieve her from the nightmare." An Rugu looked at Jiang Jingjing: "Were you frightened today?"

Jiang Jingjing's body stiffened when she heard this, and her eyes were erratic. She wanted to cover up the truth, but in front of the big sister she admired, she couldn't tell a lie: "At that time... it was really scary."

When Liu Shan heard that there was a secret that he didn't know about, he quickly asked, "What's going on? Why didn't you tell mom before?"

Jiang Jingjing's voice became lower and lower, as low as a mosquito's hum: "I, we usually can only pick some vegetables to make vegetarian dishes when we play house. Today we want to try something new, so we want to make grilled fish..."

Liu Shan: “!!!”

Liu Sang was completely confused when he heard this. He was furious: "Did you go to the pond? I told you not to go to the water, why are you like this?"

Jiang Jingjing trembled in fear, knowing that she had made a mistake, and shrank back. She did resist at first because of her mother's instructions, but all the children in the village wanted to go, and the pond was not deep, and many grandmothers washed clothes there, so it was very safe. When she was not there, her friends often went there to play.

She followed them. Her friends went into the water, but she still remembered her mother's instructions, so she didn't dare to go in. She just looked at the lake. A girl caught a lobster and asked her to take it. She walked to the shore to take it, but her foot slipped and she fell into the water, and she was soaked.

Although the water at the edge of the pond was not as high as her, she was so frightened that her soul left her body, and her mind was filled with the consequences of being discovered by her mother. It was not until she was pulled to the shore by her friends that she came to her senses.

"I, I didn't go into the water, but the mud beside the pond was too slippery..." Jiang Jingjing stuttered. She vaguely felt her mother's anger and quickly changed the subject, pinching the coins on her chest:

"When I was having a nightmare about drowning, I suddenly felt a warm sensation on my chest and someone seemed to be calling me in my ear, and then I woke up. Was this given to me by Sister An? So cool!"
