Chapter 18
◎The Unrequited Lover—Luo Ying◎
What makes LM68 special is the discovery of a vast number of enormous humanoid corpses, more than all other planets combined. Furthermore, the planet is dotted with massive megalithic palaces, matching the size of these corpses, clearly the former residences of these so-called "gods."
"Could this be their headquarters?" Lan Hua followed Regas to the ruins of a palace.
The humanoid corpses here had long been moved to the capital planet by the researchers, and only the ruined stone exterior of the palace remained; everything that could be moved inside had been taken away. Apart from Regas and his group, who were looking for the Philosopher's Stone, the others who came here were just hoping to find some treasures the researchers had overlooked during their evacuation.
“It’s one of the main bases,” Regas said.
"How did you know the Philosopher's Stone was here?" Lan Hua asked curiously. He looked up at the palace ruins, feeling they looked somewhat familiar. Then, he remembered that the temple of the greedy prophet from before seemed very similar in style to these palaces, only the prophet's temple, which appeared grand and imposing to ordinary people, looked miniature and tiny compared to these palaces. It seemed that this greedy prophet was indeed quite ritualistic, even referencing the dwelling place from which his power originated when building a temple, to make himself seem very orthodox.
“It was Loying who sensed it,” Regas explained.
"Oh?" Upon hearing the name Luo Ying, Lan Hua said with a half-smile, "I remember Luo Ying seems to like you."
This is a crucial question. Even Lan Hua could sense Luo Ying's affection for Regas, let alone Regas himself. For Regas to deny knowing would be blatantly disingenuous. But if he admitted knowing, it would mean he had prepared never to see Lan Hua again, yet he brought Luo Ying, who secretly loved him, along… A poorly answered question would become an insurmountable obstacle between Regas and Lan Hua.
Faced with this potentially disastrous question, Regas remained calm: "I must take him with me."
Upon hearing this answer, Lan Hua nearly lost her temper. Regas, of course, noticed Lan Hua's sudden change in expression and explained gently, "I kept it from you before because once I left, there would be no return. Moreover, I came here with the intention of dying, but I hope you can live well. This is my selfish wish. I don't want you to step into darkness with me; I hope you will live in the light forever."
"So you didn't even tell me before making this decision on your own?" Lan Hua sneered. If this person wasn't Regas, and dared to make a decision for him without his consent, he would have scattered this person's ashes.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help but have selfish motives towards you,” Regas said. He could face everything with equanimity, but he knew what Lan Hua wanted, yet he couldn’t let Lan Hua die with him.
"So, you brought Luo Ying with you?" Lan Hua climbed the steps, turned to look at Regas below, and chuckled softly.
“Luoying has ancient Chinese blood,” Regas said as he climbed the steps with Lan Hua.
Luo Ying's eyes were emerald green, and although his hair was black, it was slightly wavy, making him appear to have little to do with Chinese ancestry. However, Lan Hua believed what Regas said. Regas might hide things from him, but he wouldn't lie to him.
But that's not why Regas had to bring Luo Ying along. Regas continued, "His ancient Chinese bloodline comes from the Heavenly God Chong."
As a descendant of the ancient Chinese people, Lan Hua naturally knew about the importance of the Heavenly God. When Emperor Zhuanxu severed the connection between heaven and earth, he ordered Zhong to hold up the sky with both hands and ordered Li to press down on the earth with both hands, thus separating heaven and earth and severing the connection between them. From the beginning, humans and gods were separated, the era of human rule came, and the era of mythology ended.
"Continue." Lan Hua was very clever. Everything that had happened since he came to this universe had already given him some guesses. He also wanted to hear if this answer was the same as his guess.
“Actually, the separation of heaven and earth and the separation of man and god in Zhuanxu’s severing of the connection between heaven and earth do not refer to the heaven and earth on earth,” Regas said, looking up at the palace ruins. “It refers to the separation of two universes.”
The universe is not a single dimension, but the laws governing each dimension are different. A being from one universe cannot survive in another. An individual might survive, but the entire species cannot. This is the protection each universe and its inhabitants have to prevent invasion by beings from other dimensions.
However, there is one exception: humans. Humans are not outstanding among all life forms in the universe; in fact, they are quite insignificant. But humans possess an extraordinary, almost game-breaking trait: they can survive in any universe governed by any law, and they can adapt to any law.
“‘God’ is a being in this universe, and a ‘high-power’ being at that, but the energy of this universe is almost exhausted. Without energy, ‘God’ will die.” Regas raised a mocking smile, “Just like humans are running out of oxygen.”
In their universe, there are no high-powered beings like "gods," and their abundant energy makes them highly coveted. However, due to the protection of the laws, "gods" cannot directly descend.
“So, they used some methods to suggest that an advance force came to our universe hundreds of millions of years ago,” Regas said. “The war between humans and gods is far more extensive than recorded. The Jedi-Tiantong War was humanity’s last desperate gamble. ‘Chong’ and ‘Li’ are those who can sense the Philosopher’s Stone. ‘Chong’ can sense the Philosopher’s Stone of this universe, while Li can sense the Philosopher’s Stone of our universe.”
Regas shifted his gaze from the palace reliefs and continued, "The Absolute Transmission is a ritual that transforms the laws of nature. It sacrificed humanity's original civilization, which was no less advanced than it is now, and most of humanity, to reverse the laws of our universe, which had been gradually altered by the 'gods,' back to their original state, and completely annihilate the invading 'gods.' This ritual needs to be performed in response to each other in two universes, so 'Heavy' must arrive in response to ensure the ritual's completion. However, 'Heavy' and a portion of the sacrificed humans also remain forever in the so-called 'Heaven.'"
This sky is this universe.
"So, you brought Luo Ying, who has the so-called 'heavy' bloodline, to ensure that after you enter the black hole, the heavy universe you come to is the universe with 'gods' that you are looking for?" Lan Hua naturally understood Luo Ying's purpose.
This Loin has the bloodline of "Heavy" and can sense the Philosopher's Stone of this universe. Therefore, Loin is like a wireless sensor for the Philosopher's Stone of this universe. In addition to ensuring that Regas and his group can find the target universe in trillions of universes, it can also sense the location of the Philosopher's Stone after entering that universe.
From this perspective, Regas really has no choice but to bring Loatheb along...
Lan Hua looked at Regas with complicated emotions. He was furious with Regas, but he couldn't say what he had done wrong.
"The reason you had to come here is because these 'gods' whose bodies are dead but whose brainwaves are still alive are plotting to invade our universe again, is that right?" Lan Hua asked.
Regas only addressed the key points, explaining why he had to bring Loying along. He didn't explain how these "gods" circumvented the protection of the universe's laws to descend upon their universe, the subsequent war between humans and gods, or even why Regas knew these secrets and why it became a responsibility he carried.
Regas nodded. "The Jedi Connection is not a one-time solution. After all, it involves the life and death of the race, and the 'gods' will not give up. Humanity will naturally have organizations that specifically monitor such movements, and the Gamondon royal family is one of them, not only as monitors but also as enforcers."
"I don't think King Leo VI and the other foolish princes know anything about this," Lan Hua said, patting the giant stone tablet beside her with a mocking smile.
“Only the rightful heir to the Gamondon throne knows this. Leo VI’s ascension to the throne was illegitimate, so how could he possibly know these things?” Regas said with a smile.
"Oh?" Everyone has a gossipy nature. Although Lan Hua had heard some rumors, hearing gossip from the person involved was the best firsthand information. Lan Hua's eyes lit up, her previous nonchalant attitude vanished, and she nudged Regas with her elbow, looking at him with great eagerness, and asked, "So your biological father really isn't Leo VI? He really is Prince Entai?"
"Hmm," Regas hummed in response.
"Wow!" Even Lan Hua couldn't help but exclaim in surprise upon receiving such a definitive answer. Their Lan family had a small population; although they produced many mentally unstable individuals, their simple nature meant pure emotions, completely devoid of the grudges and entanglements common in noble families, let alone the issues of mixed offspring and illegitimate children. Oh, except for the unfortunate Duke Lanxi, who was falsely accused of having an illegitimate child by his eldest son and has yet to prove his innocence.
Regas: "..." He hadn't expected Lan Hua to be such a gossip. Moreover, he could tell that Lan Hua really only wanted to know why he was here and why she brought Luo Ying; she wasn't interested in any other background information.
Regas wasn't unwilling to explain everything clearly. He started by addressing the issues Lan Hua was concerned about because if he didn't, the consequences wouldn't just be Lan Hua giving him a hard time. So, he focused on the key points first. He would naturally tell Lan Hua the details when she asked.
Unexpectedly, Lan Hua's interest in royal gossip far outweighed his interest in the so-called struggle between humans and "gods" for survival... However, considering his ancestor Seloe Gamondon's evaluation of the Lan family in his diary, Lan Hua was considered exceptionally normal within the Lan family. Traversing black holes to find people was merely a basic operation for the Lan family. But only a member of the Lan family would do something like that.
"Since you can find the descendants of 'Chong,' then if you find the descendants of 'Li,' you can find the coordinates of our universe, let the human wireless sensing device sense them, and then you can go back," Lan Hua suddenly said. "Furthermore, if you find the descendants of 'Li' first, sense the philosopher's stone of our universe, and destroy it, then you won't have to travel all the way through the black hole to do this, and you won't have to risk your lives, making it so that even if you succeed, you can't go back."
Actually, finding the descendants of "Li" is the simplest way. Lan Hua didn't believe that Regas couldn't think of it.
“You’re right, finding the descendants of ‘Li’ is indeed the safest and easiest way,” Regas said calmly. “However, the descendants of ‘Li’ deliberately concealed their tracks back in ancient Earth times, and to this day, no one knows who they are or whether they still exist.”
