Chapter 59

◎Being in it◎

The core members of the Rosicrucians are ten families, and these ten families each govern human nations of varying sizes in this universe, such as the Gamondon family, the royal family of the Silver Empire.

To gain absolute dominance over the Rosicrucians, it is necessary to adhere to the rule established since the Rosicrucians' founding: to completely sever the connection between the two universes.

This is almost an impossible task, so from the ancient Earth era to the interstellar era, no core member family has been able to lead the Rosicrucian Order. Either they didn't dare to have such an idea, or they failed halfway to achieve their goal.

The theory and practice of the immortality of the soul originated from the "gods" of another universe, so the conditions for humanity to achieve this are extremely stringent, especially since the energy required for this process is enormous.

Seloi bound his soul to the Philosopher's Stone of this universe. Once the connection between the two Philosopher's Stones is broken, the energy generated at the moment of the break will be enough to completely awaken his soul.

The Lan family itself has an absolute connection with the Philosopher Stone of this universe, which is why he was able to find the Lan family.

"If this is your understanding, why are you doing all this useless work now?" Regas's tone was calm, but the sarcasm was obvious.

“I’m willing to give up everything now, I just want to be with him,” Séloë sighed softly.

"This is a thought that only comes to you after you've had everything and grown tired of it," Regas coldly pointed out the truth behind Celoe's seemingly deep and unwavering affection.

Some resentment stems simply from unfulfilled desires. When everything is readily available, the resentment and regret of loss and unfulfilled desires are magnified infinitely, eventually becoming an obsession that even death cannot let go of. This is nothing more than selfishness taken to the extreme.

Upon hearing this, Séloë chuckled: "What's the difference between you and me? My example simply serves as a reminder so you won't follow in my footsteps."

Regas sighed, "You're right, that's why I avoid following the same path as you."

Therefore, subconsciously, he chose to go to another universe instead of relying on the Lan family's abilities to find the Philosopher Stone in this universe, even though it was the simplest solution. He no longer wanted to involve Lan Hua in his troubles; he only wanted to like that person more purely.

Séloë didn't care about other people's love lives. He only wanted to make up for the regret he had from the past.

"Give me your body, and I will take good care of it for you." Seloe strolled towards Regas, his seemingly relaxed demeanor masking a tremendous sense of oppression.

If the opponent wasn't Regas, he would have been forced to his knees by the almost tangible pressure in that instant, and would have coughed up blood because it exceeded the limits of his body.

Despite the overwhelming mental pressure, Regas remained unmoved.

As Celoé approached, two similar faces came face to face. As their eyes met, they could see their own faces reflected in each other's similar eyes.

“I don’t need you to do it for me. I’ll take care of my people myself.” Regas’s gaze was solemn; he wasn’t as relaxed as he appeared. After all, the other party was Celoe, whose existence, both in life and in death, far exceeded Regas’s.

Regas suppressed the taste of blood rising in his throat, but his expression showed no sign of discomfort.

“If you resist any longer, your soul might be shattered, and your consciousness will vanish along with it. Why bother?” Celoé said gently. Although he had no feelings for his so-called bloodline descendants, he admired Regas even if he wasn’t his descendant.

That's why he gave him that extra reminder.

Regas was incredibly strong; his mental, physical, and spiritual power were all top-tier in the universe. However, no matter how strong Regas was, he ultimately lost to time compared to Cerebe.

Regas closed his eyes, and blood slowly trickled from the corner of his mouth.

Selene looked at Regas and slowly revealed a victor's smile. He reached out, wanting to touch Regas's brow with his fingers, but Regas intercepted his hand halfway.

"You... you're actually alright?" After coming into contact with Regas, Seloe could sense that Regas's soul and body showed no signs of being forcibly separated.

Regas was injured purely from a battle of wills. But Celoé could sense that Regas's soul and his body were tightly connected, leaving Celoé no chance to exploit any weakness.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you.” Regas wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his finger and chuckled. “The ‘gods’ are, after all, an alien species. Their knowledge is based on the laws of their own universe.”

He continued, “You’ve forgotten that the laws governing our universe are different from those of other universes. You’re too obsessed with the power of ‘God’ and have forgotten that every universe has its own rules of adaptation. Even ‘God’ cannot adapt to the original rules of this universe.”

This is why, despite knowing the principle of the immortality of the soul, only Celoë among the core members of the Pythagorean school and the Rosicrucians ultimately succeeded.

In this universe, the human soul is composed of soul atoms, distributed throughout the body. Its primary function is sensation, but sensory activity requires the body to provide a space for it. Sensation is a joint activity of the soul and body, requiring synchronization and coordination. When the body dies, the soul no longer possesses sensory functions, and therefore dissipates along with the body.

In other words, the soul does exist, but in this universe, the soul and body are strongly bound together, consciousness and sensation are synchronized, and the soul perishes when the body dies.

Selloe was an exception. He was a unique case who, through a chance encounter, succeeded by relying on the imported Philosopher's Stone and his own soul and mental strength, which were far stronger than those of ordinary people.

As long as one's spirit and will are strong enough to resist the invasion of external consciousness, even someone as strong as Celoé cannot separate a person's body and soul.

However, not many people have the willpower and mental strength to fight against Celoe.

Regas waved his hand, and heavily armored black soldiers poured in from outside the door.

"Seize him," Regas ordered.

Facing the elite soldiers, Celoe ignored them, only sighing softly to Regas: "It seems today is destined to be unsuccessful." With that, he took out his private warship from the particle space.

The massive airflow destroyed the entire Kentura Palace.

“I originally planned to regain control of the Royal Fleet, but you beat me to it by replacing the core AI.” Selloe looked at Regas, his expression calm and unreadable. Even at Regas’s age, he couldn’t have done what Regas had done.

"It really was you." Regas said calmly. He had only guessed before, but now it had been confirmed, so he was not surprised. "It's a pity I can't keep you here now."

This is the royal palace area, surrounded by the nobles' palace area, and further out are the commercial district and residential areas for the general public. This is not the area where starships clash.

Celoé had anticipated this, which is why he dared to stay behind alone, knowing he could gracefully withdraw.

"Your Highness!" the commander asked, "Should we pursue them?"

“You can’t catch him,” Regas said. “You may leave.”

By this time, the Khentii Palace had been largely destroyed by the turbulent air currents. The already martial law-bound palace area was now desolate and somewhat deserted.

Regas waved everyone away and stood quietly in place. Suddenly, he coughed violently a few times, and his hand, which he was using to cover his mouth and nose, was now covered in blood.

Seloi's mental and spiritual power was stronger than he had anticipated, and his injuries were far more severe than he had expected.

Vinoren Palace

King Leo VI was placed under house arrest in his original bedroom. Heavy, dark red velvet curtains blocked out all light, and the doors and windows were heavily guarded. A few muffled coughs echoed from the dimly lit room.

"This is poison, I won't drink it!" a hoarse voice rang out, followed by the sound of a bowl being overturned, landing on the wool blanket with a dull thud.

At that moment, a servant's respectful voice came from outside the door: "Your Highness."

Upon hearing the servant's voice, Leo VI involuntarily trembled.

"You may all leave now," Regas's gentle voice rang out. Then came the sound of footsteps, the sound of servants leaving.

At this moment, apart from the heavily guarded soldiers outside the room, only Leo VI and His Highness Prince Regas, who had just entered, were in the dimly lit room.

Regas drew back the curtains, and light streamed in through the window, dispelling the gloom. Regas seemed to be bathed in the light, quiet and gentle.

He walked to the bedside, picked up the bowl that Leo VI had knocked over, and gently placed it on the bedside table.

Compared to his previous high spirits, Leo VI now looked ten years older, lying withered and powerless on his bed.

“I should have strangled you back then!” Leo VI gasped. Young Regas was protected by too many people: the old fogies of the Gaimon family, the Sopedu family's bodyguards, and Enya Gaimon's supporters. Later, Regas grew too fast, and Leo could no longer find an opportunity to strike.

"You've tried before, you just haven't succeeded," Regas chuckled.

"Then what are you doing here now? Are you here to laugh at me?" Leo VI said in a hoarse voice.

"Didn't you want to see me?" Regas asked gently.

King Leo VI remained silent. Indeed, after being placed under house arrest, he had been clamoring to see Regas. But when he actually saw Regas, the curses and insults he had prepared were all stuck in his throat.

Looking at Regas's calm and gentle face, Leo VI felt that he was extremely hypocritical.

“Even if I don’t make a move, you will force me to.” Leo VI coughed. “And outsiders always think that I can’t tolerate you.” It was clearly him who was pressing him step by step, while deliberately revealing his weaknesses.

"Is that all you wanted to say?" Regas asked.

"Do you want this position, or do you want revenge for Enya Gaimon?"

Regas stepped forward, grabbed Leo VI by the neck, his gaze cold and arrogant. Leo VI felt the hand gripping his neck tighten, and his face turned purplish-red. His pupils contracted violently with fear.

"Let—let—me go," he pleaded haltingly.

Regas chuckled softly, his smile gentle and warm. He released Leo VI's neck: "What's the difference? Ambition, revenge, or so-called responsibility—what's the difference?"

He was simply caught up in it.
