After a flurry of activity, the hot pot was finally served.
Before even tasting it, the aroma of the spicy and numbing flavor made everyone swallow hard.
Wang Bin eats hot pot almost every few days in the real world, but eating it again today feels especially heartwarming.
"Let's eat!"
At Wang Bin's command, everyone picked up their chopsticks and started putting food into the pot. The crisp lettuce, the crunchy potatoes, the melt-in-your-mouth tofu, and all kinds of tender meats made everyone eat with great relish.
Some people might say they are heartless, that so many people just died, how can they eat them? And how can you stomach those tender meats?
To reiterate, Wang Bin is neither a saint nor a true soldier, but he did what he could.
Furthermore, in the apocalypse, many people are struggling to make ends meet and don't know if they will die tomorrow. Let alone eating hot pot indoors, they would be happy to eat hot pot amidst piles of zombie corpses. Having food at all is already difficult enough, let alone being picky about what to eat. That's something that can only be achieved in modern society.
Moreover, Wang Bin did this entirely to stir up everyone's emotions, to fill them with hope for the future so that they could better cope with tomorrow.
As usual, Wang Bin and the others drank a little beer, but not much, just one bottle each. Any more than that wouldn't do, because this was the apocalypse, and they didn't know how many zombies were not far away. If everyone got drunk, who would fight off the zombies?
That night, Li Chengping was on night watch for everyone. Ever since Wang Bin appeared, he seemed to have become everyone's full-time nanny, mainly responsible for watching over and taking care of the women and children.
Everyone was under a lot of stress and was really tired that day, so they went back to their rooms and fell asleep as soon as they got home.
There was not much commotion that night, and everyone slept until the next morning. At that time, Li Chengping went back to his room to catch up on sleep.
Wang Bin went up to the balcony with binoculars, constantly observing the direction of the city. He found it quiet, but he could see figures inside some buildings. He realized that Commander Li and his men must have hidden inside.
Knowing that Commander Li and the others were safe for the time being, Wang Bin was relieved. He said he wasn't worried about Commander Li and the others' safety. No, he was very worried. It's just that individual strength is often very small, and you can't get what you want just by doing it.
He then used binoculars to observe the surrounding environment of the village. There were zombies all around the village, not many, only a few hundred. Having experienced many large-scale battles, they no longer cared about these zombies.
After getting a clear understanding of the surrounding environment, Wang Bin went down from the balcony and walked directly downstairs.
"Wang Bin, where are you going?" Officer Miao asked hurriedly when he saw Wang Bin walking down the street with a wooden gun.
"I'm going to practice my marksmanship. You guys rest for a while!" Wang Bin smiled faintly, picked up his wooden gun, and went downstairs. He then moved the furniture blocking the doorway and went outside.
When Wang Bin said this, everyone realized that they hadn't practiced their skills today, and they quickly started practicing Tai Chi. Officer Miao and Guan Xiaoyue were a little worried about Wang Bin, so they both took their rifles and went up to the balcony. They would fire their guns to support Wang Bin if he was in danger.
After two days of extensive practice, Wang Bin's marksmanship became increasingly proficient. With a simple shot, he accurately hit the zombie's head, and with a slight shake of the gun, the zombie's head exploded.
The zombies were much faster than before, but Wang Bin was even faster, and his strength and stamina were also better than before. The zombies couldn't get close to him at all before they were stabbed in the head and fell to the ground.
Half an hour later, Wang Bin had cleared away all the zombies in the area. Seeing that Wang Bin had easily dealt with the zombies, Guan Xiaoyue and Officer Miao both breathed a sigh of relief and then smiled as they went down to the balcony.
Wang Bin practiced Tai Chi, Vajra Palm, and the One-Reed Crossing-the-River Lightness Skill for a while downstairs before coming up to the third floor. When he came up, everyone was practicing Tai Chi.
After glancing at everyone's practice, Wang Bin noticed that they had made significant progress compared to before; perhaps this was because they were forced to improve.
In order to survive, people are studying much harder than they did before the apocalypse, so progress is inevitable.
Wang Bin wasn't idle either; he would occasionally help everyone correct some of their movements.
Li Chengping woke up at noon. The first thing he did was take out a cigarette, light it, and then watch with a smile as Abao and Xiaonan made a fool of themselves. Sometimes Li Xiaolu would come over and join in the fun, and laughter would occasionally fill the room.
The joyful atmosphere inside the house contrasted sharply with the desolation and zombies roaming outside. Everyone cherished their current life and was grateful to Wang Bin.
Without Wang Bin, they would probably still be struggling in their original city, or perhaps killed by zombies or other survivors.
After lunch, everyone sat in the living room to discuss the next steps.
"When we set off, I learned from Division Commander Li that he had informed the Fuzhou military headquarters of their impending withdrawal. I wonder if Fuzhou will send reinforcements?"
"We are thousands of miles away from the gathering place in Fuzhou. Even if they wanted to provide support, they wouldn't be able to get there in a short time!"
"Well, let's stay here for a few days. There are zombies everywhere outside the city, and we can't even get in to meet up with Commander Li and the others! Even if we drive in a tank, it won't make much of a difference, and with so many zombies inside the city, it'll be even harder to get out!"
"That's the only way!"
After discussing it, everyone went about their own business.
