Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Temporary marking? Nan Ya Yin suddenly snapped to attention. Didn't that mean biting the gland?

"No, don't." Nan Yayin pushed Qiao Yan away, moving off her and onto the bed.

Qiao Yan's arms were now empty; once he was awake, he wasn't so clingy anymore.

"Which room is this?" Nan Yayin remembered that she was in the study, and it didn't seem to be the guest room.

"My bedroom." Qiao Yan turned to touch his forehead. "Are you feeling alright?"

"No, don't touch me." Nan Yayin shrank at the foot of the bed, remembering the things Qiao Yan had reminded her of at the beginning. "Didn't you say you wouldn't let me into your room?"

Qiao Yan's bedroom was a bit larger than the guest room, but otherwise there was no difference; there was nothing that needed to be hidden.

He spoke with a sense of loss that he himself was unaware of.

“Because it’s my room.” Qiao Yan put down her hand that was touching her forehead, and Nan Ya Yin looked up at her. “I need some personal space, don’t I?”

"Tch." Nan Yayin originally thought that Qiao Yan was just looking down on him, but after hearing this answer, she felt it made sense, just like he didn't want that unclaimed attic to be discovered.

The scent of cream at the foot of the bed wasn't very strong, and because of his resistant attitude, Qiao Yan even sat back down on his own sofa.

Isn't it a bit too far away?

If he weren't sober yet, he could probably whine or crawl over to her. But now that he's awake, he can't do those things, even though he still wants to hold her.

Nan Yayin scurried back to the pillow, trying his best to absorb Qiao Yan's pheromones. With his back to the warm yellow light, he rubbed against the pillow, feeling aggrieved by the passion. Why couldn't Qiao Yan be more understanding, or simply not listen to him at all?

He would actually agree to things like hugging him or temporarily marking him, even if it was just half-hearted.

"Are you asleep?" Qiao Yan thought to himself that he hadn't eaten for a day and a night, and had only drunk a couple of sips of water after all that tossing and turning.

"Is this all you've been drinking for a week?" Qiao Yan went up to him and heard him say in a muffled voice, "I haven't slept. I've slept for so long and now I can't fall asleep."

"Want to get up and eat? I saw the cake in your fridge." Qiao Yan picked him up. "Did you make it yourself?"

Nan Ya Yin was startled, and tears streamed down her face. "What are you doing! Let go, put me down!"

Qiao Yan kindly didn't mention that he had cried again, and said, "I'll take you out to eat."

"Go eat by yourself, I'm not eating." Nan Ya Yin hugged her neck. "I'm not hungry."

"Really?"

Why would I lie to you?!

When they reached the door, Qiao Yan realized she didn't have any hands, so she patted him on the shoulder and asked, "Could you help me open the door?"

"I'm really not hungry!" Nan Yayin said as she opened the door.

Qiao Yan pulled her closer, "Okay, I'm hungry. I'd like to invite you to come over for dinner. And Shuyin should be sleeping right now, so let's be quiet, okay?"

"Could you please turn on the light?" Qiao Yan asked again.

He argued inwardly that if he wanted to be quiet, he shouldn't have turned on the lights.

Nan Yayin was currently suspended in mid-air, and the only thing she could hold onto was Qiao Yan's arm. He glared at her, quickly turned on the light, and then pulled his arm back to hug her.

Qiao Yan was a young and strong Alpha, and a former member of the Expeditionary Force. Even though he was already at the dinner table, Nan Ya Yin didn't feel much of a sway.

Xiao Lu now always cooks enough for three people. Nan Ya Yin's portion was placed in a thermal cabinet, and it was still warm when Qiao Yan took it out.

"Can you hold the spoon?" Qiao Yan didn't give him chopsticks.

Nan Yayin felt a little hungry when she saw the food, and scoffed, "What do you take me for?"

He was just a little tired, not weak. He could actually walk on his own, but Qiao Yan insisted on carrying him.

"It's late and not really good to eat cake, but you haven't eaten all day." Qiao Yan brought out the decorated cream cake. "Would you like to cut the cake yourself?"

Nan Yayin had just finished a bite of food when she saw the bowl being served and quickly swallowed it down, saying, "I'll cut it myself."

Qiao Yan placed the knife beside him. "Is this your first time making this?"

"I'm not a genius, how could I make it like this on my first try?" Nan Ya Yin took a knife and cut rice grains into them, each piece looking like a triangle sold in a cake shop. "But this is my third time making it."

He was somewhat smug, then glanced at her again.

"That's amazing." Qiao Yan praised him as if he were praising Nan Shuyin.

Of course, Nan Yayin thought to herself after receiving the praise, but what she said was, "Don't treat me like a child."

"It's really impressive that you didn't treat me like a child." Qiao Yan clapped her hands. "I just couldn't do that."

He gave a piece to Qiao Yan, placed it on the plate, and pushed it towards her, saying, "You can test for the poison."

Qiao Yan smiled helplessly. The plate held a snow-white cake, topped with pretty edible decorations. Was it for testing poison? She felt like she'd been given the best-cut, most elaborate portion.

She was about to put a small piece into her mouth when she saw Nan Ya Yin's expectant gaze, just like a child's.

"Is it good?" Nan Ya Yin asked her eagerly, "Is it good?"

Qiao Yan closed her eyes, tasted it, nodded, opened her eyes, and said, "It's not poisonous."

Nan Ya Yin held the cake knife, looking at her speechlessly.

"It's delicious," Qiao Yan said. To her, cakes were all sweet, and there wasn't much difference between them. "You have a real talent for making cakes."

Although he didn't have much expertise in appreciating cakes, Qiao Yan was a generous person when it came to praise, and unconsciously he made Nan Yayin feel like she was floating on air.

"I might be a genius," he thought, "a genius at making cakes."

Qiao Yan put the empty bowls of rice into the machine, then picked her up again and took her upstairs. "You've been sleeping all day without eating or drinking, so you must be having trouble sleeping now. Do you want to do something?"

Nan Ya Yin didn't want her to hug him at first, but by the time he realized it, his arms were already wrapped around her neck. It was so easy to form a habit. Hearing her ask what he wanted to do, he glanced at the pitch-black night outside the window, thought for a moment, and said, "Don't you want to sleep? Don't you have to go to work tomorrow?"

Why are you asking this? Are you trying to play with me?

Qiao Yan spoke without thinking, but the listener's ears turned bright red. She was both angry and anxious. "Who wants to play with you!"

"Let me think about how to answer you. I had nothing to do while you were sleeping, so I slept for a long time just like you." Qiao Yan ignored his words and said as she walked, "As for work, no one knows I'm back yet. Because of the storm on Da Han Xing, I submitted a request to reschedule classes for at least a week, so I came back early. I'm not a very diligent person, so since I already said I was going to reschedule classes, I won't tell them I'm back, so they don't have to bother rescheduling."

No one closes the bedroom door when they leave, but it's easy to go back in.

“Then you’ll be staying home for a long time.” Nan Yayin sat on the bed and watched Qiao Yan sit back on the sofa.

Qiao Yan leaned back on the sofa. "It depends on how long your heat lasts."

At this point, she stood up and walked in front of him. "You didn't take the inhibitor beforehand. When I came back, you must have already been suffering for a long time. Unlike before, this time it might take longer and more for the symptoms to recur."

Qiao Yan reached out and touched his forehead again. Compared to the burning sensation she felt when she came back in the afternoon, it was much better now. "Is there anything you want to do now?"

Nan Ya Yin looked at the withdrawn hands and asked him what he wanted to do now. He probably just instinctively clung to her endlessly. He didn't know why, but he just wanted to follow behind her, even just lean on her.

With a 99% match rate, Nan Yayin suddenly remembered this matter and recalled Shu Juan's words about them being a match made in heaven.

"Then I'll play with the terminal for a while." Nan Yayin touched her pocket and remembered that the terminal seemed to have been used by Nan Shuyin to watch lessons or children's cartoons.

"You don't have it on you?" Qiao Yan handed over his own. "Then you can play with mine."

"Oh, is that alright?" Nan Yayin glanced at her discreetly and then reached out to take it.

He took it and quickly climbed to the headboard to start browsing. The interface had photo albums and social features. He hesitated for a moment, then glanced at Qiao Yan sitting not far away.

Forget it, I won't do something so tasteless. He looked through her device and found that apart from the basic software, there wasn't much to play. The basic games included a card game and a match-3 game.

It feels like a very old game, so why has it been able to infiltrate Qiao Yan's terminal for so long? Is Qiao Yan really only 6 years older than him?

He fumbled for a camera app, and when he opened it, he found that it showed the scene downstairs. The infrared technology allowed him to see the machines that were working and washing the rice bowls they had just eaten.

Nan Yayin pointed around, and the camera moved around in all directions. There were such cameras in the yard, on the first floor, and in the second-floor corridor.

Qiao Yan wouldn't watch it for no reason, would he? He understands the idea of installing surveillance cameras at home, but Qiao Yan was the only one living there before.

He was turning the camera around, unaware of the strands of black hair drifting towards him.

"You found me." Qiao Yan noticed that he was watching the home security camera footage.

Nan Yayin was quite startled, especially since he had just questioned Qiao Yan's character. "What are you doing coming closer?"

"You're playing with the terminal, and I have nothing to do," Qiao Yan said innocently.

"Then go to sleep."

"I just woke up not long ago, and you're already taking up my bed."

Nan Yayin pointed to the other side, "Your bed is so big, you can't possibly not sleep on the whole bed if I sit in one corner."

“Okay, I thought you wouldn’t want to.” Qiao Yan had no choice but to get into bed from the other side.

Feeling the bed vibrate, Nan Yayin tensed up and immediately shrank to the side. "Don't you like reading? Go read a book!"

"Hmm?" Qiao Yan said with a hint of pleading, "Judging from the picture books on my bookshelf, I don't really like reading. Please let me off the hook."

What could he say if Qiao Yan insisted on going to bed with him? He shrank back and moved a little to the side.

“You can actually sit on the sofa and play,” Qiao Yan suggested. “Do you want me to carry you there?”

Nan Ya Yin verbally resisted, but she was unhappy if they were to go far away. "Why? Why can't you go?"

"You told me to go to sleep."

Why did I trip myself up like this? Nan Yayin felt like her brain was broken. She felt a little guilty looking at Qiao Yan's puzzled eyes.

"Then don't get so close."

Qiao Yan looked at the insurmountable chasm between the two of them, and the pillow that he had just quickly stuffed between them.

She felt like she had been used and then abandoned. Who was that person who had insisted on clinging to her just now?
