Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Qiao Yan sat in her room waiting for Nan Ya Yin to come over for breakfast. She had just uploaded the documents she needed to submit after attending the lecture. Not counting today, she could stay at home for three more days before going to class.

Although she was still worried, seeing how energetic Nan Yayin was just now, she figured she was probably alright.

Thinking of this, Nan Yayin came in from the door. Qiao Yan put down the terminal and said, "It's all sorted out."

Nan Ya Yin really wanted to question her about whether she had deliberately not taken it or was just being polite, but it was a difficult question to ask. In the end, he held back his anger and said, "Fine."

"Is there anything wrong with your sense of smell?" Nan Yayin finally picked a good opportunity to interrogate him.

"No." Qiao Yan took a sip of coffee. "What's wrong?"

"Can you smell sweat?" Nan Ya Yin asked her, both carefully and completely carelessly.

Qiao Yan couldn't help but laugh, thankfully without choking. She had thought Nan Ya Yin didn't like being held, or that she was sober and didn't want to be exposed to her pheromones, but it turned out it was because of this.

"What are you laughing at!" Nan Ya Yin could only glare at her.

"It's not just this room that's filled with the scent of pheromones, the whole house is filled with it, you can't smell it at all," Qiao Yan explained.

"It's good that I can't smell it." Nan Yayin muttered a couple of times and started eating breakfast.

"How are you feeling today?" Qiao Yan felt that this question was more important.

Nan Yayin looked up and said, "I feel great. My mind is much clearer. I think I can be alone today."

Qiao Yan was taken aback for a moment, but quickly covered it up by reaching for her coffee. She simply smiled and said, "Okay."

As soon as Qiao Yan finished breakfast, she was pulled to the study by a phone call from the school. The class rescheduling was so sudden that there was no teacher to cover the class, and coincidentally, the teacher who was supposed to cover the class was also away on a business trip.

Qiao Yan listened to the apology on the other end, hoping she could start online teaching. Actually, she had already returned; she was touching the pages of the picture book, now considering whether to talk to the people at the school.

He can do it alone; he doesn't need her help anymore.

"Wait a moment, let me think." Qiao Yan smoothed out the folded corner and said to the other side, "Actually, I have already returned from Da Han Xing, but due to special reasons, I cannot go to school for the time being. However, I can teach online."

"You're back already?" The person on the other end was surprised. He had just seen that the snowstorm on the Great Cold Star had intensified that morning, and Qiao Yan might not be able to return until next week.

"Yes, I'm on Bailu Star right now," Qiao Yan told him, "but I can't go back to school for the next few days."

Although I don't know how she got back, at least now that she's back, we don't have to reschedule classes. These first three days of online classes are fine, but things will be much worse for her later. I don't know what's going on this semester, but so many teachers are going on business trips. They were all scheduled beforehand, but now they're all last-minute trips, catching those of us who make the schedules completely off guard.

However, since Qiao Yan returned, the other person said, "Because we were worried that you wouldn't be able to come back next week, we were going to continue adjusting the class schedule. But since you're back, we'll give you the original class schedule. The online setup is also ready; you just need to open it with your terminal."

"Okay, thank you." Qiao Yan hadn't realized she'd been tricked when she saw the class schedule that had been sent to her after the call was quickly disconnected.

Qiao Yan: "?"

Qiao Yan: "??"

Her course was supposed to last four months, but only one month has passed. How come it's been cut to two months already?

Looking back at her class schedule, her classes over the past two months have been packed like a main subject teacher, with at least four classes every week.

She's only responsible for two grades, and only teaches two classes a week. How come her schedule was changed like this when she was away on a business trip for a few days? The students in these two grades don't have other classes.

Qiao Yan dialed the number again, but the other party kept getting a busy signal and wouldn't answer.

You should tell him directly that you are stranded on Dahanxing and expect to stay until the next semester.

Qiao Yan had a headache. What was going on? She had only moved back to her own home a few days ago, and she was already on business trips and had a full schedule of classes. It would have been easier if she had just lived at the school.

She slumped into her chair and sighed deeply. The study door wasn't closed properly, and when she looked up, she saw Nan Yayin about to knock.

Seeing that he had been discovered, he poked his head out and asked, "Can I come in?"

Remembering how he had opened this door before, Qiao Yan nodded. "I hope you can be gentle with it."

Nan Yayin walked in without saying a word and stood near the bookshelf. Qiao Yan looked at her with some confusion.

When their eyes met, he spoke first, "I'm here to find a book to read."

Qiao Yan nodded. She was going to start teaching tomorrow and would be extremely busy for the next two months. She was preparing her lesson plans.

Nan Yayin wasn't really looking for books seriously. She would just take down the books on the shelf, flip through them, put them back, and then take down another one. After doing this many times, Qiao Yan finally felt something was off.

"Haven't found a book you want to read yet?" Qiao Yan simply asked.

Nan Yayin gave her a look. "I've only been here for a short while, and you already find me disagreeable?"

She didn't say that at all. Qiao Yan waved her hand, noticed the picture book on the table was "Take You to the Moon," and asked, "Are you looking for this?"

Nan Yayin mumbled as she leaned closer to look, then shook her head and said, "No, I've already read this one."

"Hmm?" Qiao Yan found Nan Ya Yin's attitude very strange. She had a feeling that she was about to figure out his thought process but also found it hard to believe.

He didn't come in specifically because I was here, did he?

"The books here are all for kids, I can't read them anymore," Nan Yayin snorted. "You're even more childish than me."

What's going on now? Qiao Yan put down the picture book, turned off the terminal, and looked at him.

"What are you doing?" Nan Yayin's hair just covered his reddened ears.

"It's nothing. I just realized you might not have fulfilled the terms of the contract for a week, and now is the perfect time." Qiao Yan extended her hand to him. "I'm just reminding you about your final payment."

Nan Yayin finally found an excuse to sit in Qiao Yan's lap, and grabbed her hand to sit down. Yes, he had found that he felt uncomfortable when she left after getting used to Qiao Yan's pheromones, but he couldn't bring himself to go back on his word and ask her for help again after he had just said that he didn't need her to bother with him.

The sense of security that comes from physical contact is different from that from pheromones; it's a strange feeling that can calm people down. When Nan Yayin hugged Qiao Yan, she immediately stopped talking.

As Qiao Yan pondered whether she was a tranquilizer or a sleeping pill, Nan Yayin nestled against her neck and asked, "Are you going to school?"

"Did you hear that?" Qiao Yan asked, pulling him closer to her.

"No." Nan Yayin turned her head to look at the bookshelf, then turned back after a while. "I only heard a little bit."

"I'll stay home for the next three days. I'll be very busy afterwards." Qiao Yan's head ached just thinking about the class schedule.

"oh."

Nan Yayin breathed a sigh of relief. She remembered that last night Qiao Yan said that no one at school knew she was at home, and that she had just called and told the person on the other end that she was already on Bailu Star.

He wanted to argue with her, but he knew he wasn't in a position to.

Fortunately, I'm still at home.

Qiao Yan is now close to him, so she can tell what he's doing. Why did he sigh just now?

"You want me to go to school earlier?" Qiao Yan pulled him out of her arms.

Nan Ya Yin looked at her questioningly, "Did I say that?"

"So you don't want me to go to school?"

"I didn't say that!" Those eyes widened instantly, and Qiao Yan felt as if she had grasped something.

"It's because I don't want to go to school," Qiao Yan said, trying to smooth things over. "Nobody likes going to work."

Nan Yayin accepted this suggestion, thought for a moment, and nodded, "I don't like going to work either."

It was one of the rare, most honest things to come out of his mouth. Qiao Yan couldn't help but laugh and say, "What kind of job do you have? You should be in school at your age. You're still young."

“You should go to school if you’re young.” Nan Yayin rested her head on Qiao Yan’s shoulder. “I’m a terrible student, it would be a waste of money for me to go to school.”

Qiao Yan felt something was off about his words, and then she heard an unnamed sigh in them. That day, also in the study, he called himself a jinx, and now he's saying he's wasting money.

Who would say that about themselves?

"You look down on schools these days?" Qiao Yan pulled the man out of her arms again, looking at his displeased eyes.

Nan Ya Yin was naturally unhappy about being pulled out again after just lying back down. "I didn't say that..."

"Why don't you want to go to school?" The sweet atmosphere in the study grew stronger, and Qiao Yan's voice became softer and softer, like clouds and cream.

"Because I don't have money." Nan Yayin was completely captivated.

"Really?" Qiao Yan knew that not having money wouldn't stop him.

Nan Yayin lowered her head. "Because I'm stupid, I didn't do well on the test."

"Which subject are you bad at?" Qiao Yan seemed determined to get to the bottom of it.

Nan Ya Yin pinched her cheek in anger, "Why do you have to know all this?"

"Huh? Have you forgotten?" Qiao Yan leaned back, her words clearly teasing, but in her gentle voice they sounded like she was coaxing a child. "Who told me to get to know Nan Yayin? To move back home? Who's living here anyway?"

It's the southern dialect.

He was furious and roughly rubbed her face. His ears kept burning as he remembered what he had said that day. "That was what Nan Ya Yin said that day, not what I said. I don't care if you understand."

"Such a shameless act?" Qiao Yan pulled his hand. "Then next time you say something like that, tell me in advance so I can record it."

Nan Ya Yin pulled her hand away, baring her teeth and claws, and asked, "Why? Was it necessary?"

"Because I have to prove that at least one Nan Yayin really said that, otherwise I'll be the only one who remembers it," Qiao Yan said with a troubled expression. "Later, I'll count how many Nan Yayins there will be to settle accounts with."

"Where are there so many Nan Yayins?!" He withdrew his hand and then pinched Qiao Yan's face again. "There's only one!"

Qiao Yan smiled and pulled the person back into his arms, "There's only one Nan Yayin, so it's not a waste of money."
