Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Nan Shuyin was led to the basement where the two of them were. She didn't know why, but it felt like a long time had passed since she last saw her brother in just one day.

Xiao Lu pushed the wheelchair toward the room and saw Shu Juan coming out of the room.

"Hello, teacher." Nan Shuyin greeted him respectfully.

Shu Juan couldn't help but laugh when she heard this, "Good morning! You respect your teacher even more than all my students."

Nan Shuyin did not have the habit of speaking recklessly like a child; on the contrary, she was very good at reading people's expressions.

"Are my brother and sister inside?" She had already been told this when she came up, but she couldn't find anything to talk about with Shu Juan, so she could only bring it up again.

"Yes." Shu Juan pointed to the door behind her. "They're in a very stable mood now, so I'm relieved. You should go see them."

Shu Juan tossed a terminal aside, muttering to herself, "So many problems, I'll definitely make a killing off her next time."

When she entered the elevator, she saw Nan Shuyin still looking at her, so she smiled at her again before closing the door.

"Xiao Lu, hurry up," Nan Shuyin urged, as she hadn't seen the two of them all day yesterday.

Xiao Lu pushed a little faster, but for such a short distance, it didn't quite understand why Nan Shuyin kept telling it to hurry up when she rang the doorbell.

Fortunately, the door was opened quickly, and Nan Yayin came out. He had tidied himself up, and his messy hair had been neatly combed.

Nan Shuyin felt a lump in her throat the moment she saw him, "Brother..."

She opened her arms and felt herself being lifted up. As she lay on his back, she saw Qiao Yan right behind her.

"Good morning, Shuyin." Qiao Yan acted as usual, as if nothing had happened. "Did you watch the teaching videos yesterday?"

In a few months, she will be taking the entrance exam. Qiao Yan can help her get a chance to enroll, but whether she can get in or not will depend on her own efforts.

"What are you talking about?" Nan Yayin turned and entered the room. "Don't you even give her a day's rest? Last time when we went out, she was so scared by the shooting that she almost lost her mind."

“Studying can prevent you from overthinking.” Qiao Yan removed a long black hair from his face.

Nan Yayin looked at her with disdain, "Did you study yesterday?"

Perhaps it still counts as learning? Most schools offer practical courses, and applying textbook knowledge to practice is the most important part of learning.

However, Qiao Yan had long realized that it was best not to be so flamboyant when it came to arguing with him. "I'm ashamed to say that I didn't yesterday."

“Then don’t pressure the child. She’s only five years old.” Nan Ya’yin put her on the sofa. “She’s already watched the videos you gave her several times over.”

“Sister, I did watch.” Nan Shuyin sat on the sofa. “I also watched Professor Shu Juan do experiments. I didn’t cause any trouble, I just watched.”

As a teacher, I always feel happy to see children with a positive attitude towards learning. Qiao Yan gave Shu Juan a bag of candy as a reward, saying, "When you pass the exam, we'll go to the paradise on another planet together next time."

Next time, there won't be these horrible shootings and explosions.

Seeing her younger sister's excited expression at the mention of going out to play, Nan Yayin realized that her heart was clearly leaning towards Qiao Yan, so she quickly pulled her over.

"That's enough." Nan Yayin pulled the person and pressed them to the table. "Don't forget about the call you need to make with them."

"How could that be?" Qiao Yan said seriously. Right now, no one wanted to resolve this matter more than she did.

“I still can’t believe he agreed just like that,” Nan Yayin said. “He was so cautious before that he didn’t even dare to show his face, but now he’s actually agreed.”

"I have a feeling there's something fishy going on here." He casually picked up a piece of fruit from the table and started eating.

Qiao Yan nodded. "The content of our conversation isn't important; we're just stalling for his time."

Gunfire, explosions, and even the destruction of the earliest airships failed to kill Qiao Yan. Aside from her high self-destructive potential, she was indeed a human ironclad.

To get Nan Ya Yin to kill her, one would almost have to resort to methods that would cloud her judgment with lust; otherwise, it would be nearly impossible to get close.

However, looking at it another way, Nan Yayin is very close to her, so bribing him is like deploying a machine gun in the closest place to Qiao Yan.

Qiao Yan didn't think the murderer had any high regard for human relationships. Someone who was used to bribing people with money would probably be happy to see people betrayed and abandoned by their families because of money.

She touched the sensors encircling her right leg; aside from her head, these metal plates were probably the most important things she owned.

It's not that removing these things will break her legs, but she's been wearing them for so long that she's worried that if she takes them off, she'll become paralyzed again like before.

She pressed her right leg; she was too reliant on this thing.

Nan Ya Yin saw her suddenly get up and go into the bathroom, and then come out again, but she seemed a little confused.

"Where have you been?" Nan Ya Yin asked, noticing the instrument-like thing in her hand. "What's this?"

"Use this to stall him for a while." Qiao Yan wasn't without alternatives, but she should have broken through this obstacle long ago.

Nan Ya Yin touched it; it was still warm. "What is this for?"

“Something that lets my legs move naturally,” Qiao Yan said.

Nan Yayin looked at her and realized that it was no wonder she felt that the woman was walking unnaturally after coming out of the restroom.

"Then your legs..." Nan Ya Yin was a little worried, but she was too embarrassed to touch her legs.

Qiao Yan smiled faintly, "Don't worry about it, it's not that I can't leave, it's just that I'm not used to it yet."

They didn't make the call from Shu Juan's basement, but instead moved to Nan Ya Yin's "secret base" in the Lower District.

On the first day of Qiao Yan's vulnerable period, no one dared to take her out, lest they cause an even bigger commotion and lose more than they gained.

"I understand." Qiao Yan's expression remained unchanged, showing no objection to this approach. "Call me when you arrive."

“He just sent a message. We’re leaving immediately.” Shu Juan glanced at the device connected to the terminal. “The eavesdropping hasn’t stopped. You’re dead from now on.”

She pointed at Qiao Yan, "Just be a dead man, we're leaving. If we're lucky, we'll find his address today."

Qiao Yan turned her head to look at the person next to her, "Don't be nervous, it's okay."

Nan Ya Yin leaned closer to her without making a sound and whispered, "I'll be back soon, right?"

"Mmm." Qiao Yan wanted to kiss him, but since Shu Juan and Nan Shuyin were still there, she had to give up.

Nan Yayin guessed what she was going to do, and seeing that there were people all around, she felt it was inappropriate, but she was still a little disappointed.

"Let's go."

Shu Juan led the people upstairs. After the door closed, the room suddenly became quiet. Qiao Yan sat on the sofa and realized that the smell of sage in the room was so strong.

She sighed, lay back on the sofa, and waited for the call to come from the other end.

-

Shu Juan drives much more aggressively than Qiao Yan. The old town is not close to the laboratory, and Shu Juan arrived at the destination in just a few words.

"This is the same place we came from last time." Shu Juan looked at the steps with some fear. This time she had brought many people with her. "Hey, hurry up! Can't you even outrun me?"

Nan Yayin really didn't know how someone with such a personality could be with Qiao Yan. Did they become familiar with each other because they sat in the front and back rows when they were in school?

But upon closer reflection, he realized that he and Qiao Yan were actually two parallel lines. If it weren't for that instrument and Shu Juan, they probably would never have intersected in this lifetime.

His heart was pounding, not only because of the upcoming phone call, but also because of his imagined version of himself who hadn't met Qiao Yan.

The poverty they anticipated meant that working might be enough to support Nan Shuyin until he went to school, but he would likely fall ill soon.

He climbed the steps one by one.

Nanze will owe a lot of money, and they will definitely run away, because if they don't, he will secretly sell them out. What will they do then? Murder? Go to jail?

He shuddered.

Perhaps it won't end like that, but he's certain he won't encounter Qiao Yan in any storyline.

Nan Yayin knew that he did have selfish thoughts; he liked her in a humble and worried way, so much so that he hadn't dared to respond to what Qiao Yan had said.

He reached up and touched the back of his neck. Qiao Yan's bite was really gentle and not fierce. The dull pain had almost disappeared, but the sweet fragrance that filled his body had not yet faded.

He quietly and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Shu Juan followed not far behind him. Seeing that he was panting, she realized that this road was truly something only those who had walked it knew. It was so tall, yet they didn't even have two elevators. It was just too inhumane.

She didn't even dare to breathe heavily while climbing the stairs, worried that she would inhale her friend's pheromones in one breath. These two really didn't even bother to hide it. One was just exchanging glances in front of others, and the other was just carrying pheromones out without even bothering to deal with them.

Shu Juan never imagined that the possessive pheromones would come from Qiao Yan. From the first moment she saw him, she knew he was an old sage untouched by emotions or desires. Who could have imagined that he would walk into the grave of marriage before her?

When the group of people arrived at the attic door, panting, Qiao Yan waved to the people around him, "There are no windows here. We'll block the way downstairs and see if anyone comes. I've already told them in advance that if they don't report it within half an hour, I'll call the police."

"Go in and get ready. Don't worry about what to say. Your only goal is to stall him." Shu Juan started working on the equipment in the hallway. "Staying on for as long as possible."

She tossed a terminal over, "I called Qiao Yan. She was just texting me, like a guardian, but I didn't even bother to reply."

Nan Yayin felt a flush rising on her face. She took the terminal and hurried into the house. She made a call and found that the other end had already answered.

He saw Qiao Yan sitting on the sofa but didn't say anything.

"Hello?" Qiao Yan spoke first, "Hasn't he called yet?"

Nan Yayin shook her head. Even though they had only been apart for less than an hour, she realized that she didn't like being away from Qiao Yan.

Perhaps it was just marked, otherwise it would be too clingy.

"What are you doing?" Nan Yayin asked her.

When Qiao Yan tied her hair up, she was gentler than when it was down. She smiled and asked, "Are you a little scared?"

Nan Yayin shook her head.

A message came through the terminal. Nan Yayin glanced at it and asked, "Will it really be over soon?"

"What's wrong?" Qiao Yan noticed that his expression was off.

Nan Yayin gripped the terminal, wanting to ask: If I disappeared, would you come looking for me?

"Forget it, you'd better not come looking for me." Nan Yayin hung up the terminal.

"Ya Yin?" Qiao Yan had just stood up when he disappeared into thin air.

The letter said, "I bought you the ticket. Didn't you want to see me? Calling doesn't show any sincerity."
