Chapter 9
After Nan Shuyin had changed her clothes and was lying in the hospital bed, the two of them came out and sat on a bench in the corridor.
Nan Yayin was indeed anxious. The surgery was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, which was so rushed, but he knew that taking it slow might not be a good thing.
The hospital environment is very nice, but it never allows people to have peace and quiet; even the sound of footsteps makes people panic.
Why did I have to go through all this? I should have pretended not to see it when that woman threw her in.
Suddenly a hand landed on his shoulder, and he flinched.
It is Qiao Yan
Ever since Nan Ya Yin chased that man away, something has been off. If it's because of Nan Shu Yin, then this is just a minor surgery.
"What's wrong?" Qiao Yan asked, noticing that he was sweating profusely, as if he were under a spell.
Nan Yayin turned her head to look over, and Qiao Yan immediately moved her hand away.
"It's nothing." He was a little exhausted and moved to the side.
Nan Yayin looked at the wound on his face that hadn't completely healed and said, "Since you're at the hospital, do you need your face treated?"
"There's no need to show me mercy." Nan Yayin leaned against the wall; there was no need.
Qiao Yan had gotten used to Nan Yayin's way of speaking; it was always so sharp and cutting that it left people speechless.
"Have you always spoken like this?" Qiao Yan asked him. She really hated the feeling of keeping things bottled up, especially since she was never one to mince words.
Nan Yayin chuckled. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"Nobody's comfortable with this," Qiao Yan thought. He seemed to be unable to distinguish friend from foe; those who were good to him would get stabbed, while those who were bad to him were probably already in hell.
"No, I just wanted to say that I have no ill intentions towards you. If you don't want to accept the deal, you can refuse at all, even now." Qiao Yan is not a businesswoman; she only considers the willingness of both parties and doesn't care about any benefits or interests.
"You're telling me I can back out after you've opened the asset account? Is it because you don't want to deposit 150,000?" He turned to look at Qiao Yan's dark, almost piercing eyes. "Are you more short of money than I am, Professor Qiao?"
It's strange that he accepted the condition, but did so in a way that deliberately provoked people.
Qiao Yan couldn't understand this kind of person. Understanding humans was even more difficult than understanding pheromone matching devices. At this moment, the two of them were surprisingly in complete agreement: to end this transaction as soon as possible.
I hope the vulnerable period arrives soon / I hope the final payment is transferred quickly.
Because Nan Shuyin is hospitalized, Nan Yayin won't be going home; he'll be staying in the hospital for at least a week. But Qiao Yan can't; she has classes and meetings. If it weren't for their 99% compatibility, they wouldn't have any interaction, not even a chance encounter. Fate is always so strange, liking to put two completely different people into the same box.
Nan Yayin sat in the ward. He had been going to the hospital a lot these past two days, and the smell of disinfectant made him want to vomit.
Nan Shuyin lay asleep in her hospital bed, tightly clutching the teddy bear in her arms.
Because she was staying in a single room, Nan Shuyin was the only one in the room. Nan Shuyin took out her terminal and started looking at it idly. After browsing through some of the message ads, she returned to her contacts page, which only had two people on it: Qiao Yan and Shu Juan.
Nan Yayin exited and returned to the school forum she had visited earlier. She had originally intended to look at other news, but in the end, she clicked on a page.
"Qiao Yan looked particularly unwell today; who could understand why?"
"[picture]"
Wow, that's scary, even though she's always been scary.
- Even professors don't want to work 8 AM.
The lecture was delivered very quickly today; no one dared to say they didn't understand it.
-It's as if you'd only dare to say that if she didn't do it this way.
Nan Yayin glanced at the time and realized it was the day before yesterday.
It must be related to them after all. They have to move out and take care of Shuyin. They even helped deal with that person who came over yesterday.
Qiao Yan didn't ask, but that didn't mean he could pretend not to know. That guy was actually a thug. Anyone who lived in the old city knew that the poorer and more chaotic the place, the more likely there were people like that. He just didn't expect that even the new district would follow, which seemed to mean that he could never escape it.
The photo of Qiao Yan lecturing with a gloomy face, his hands supporting him on the lectern, was right in front of him.
Pheromones disordered... Nan Ya Yin remembered what Qiao Yan had mentioned to him. He also remembered that Qiao Yan would relax slightly when he came into contact with his pheromones.
Is it really that useful? My pheromones.
Maybe 450,000 is too little.
Qiao Yan arrived at the hospital in the afternoon just before Nan Ya Yin was wheeled into the operating room. Nan Ya Yin was somewhat surprised, "Don't you have classes?"
Qiao Yan rubbed her temples. "Yes, so I'll leave as soon as the surgery is over."
She was just worried that Nan Yayin might have some conflict with the doctor inside if she stayed here alone. She knew he was sensible, but she also fully understood that the biggest variable was people.
"If you're in such a rush, you don't have to come." Nan Ya Yin turned around. "I'll stay here."
Qiao Yan smiled helplessly; that was exactly what she was afraid of.
The surgery was quick, taking no more than half an hour from induction to completion. However, Nan Shuyin was still under anesthesia and receiving an IV drip in her ward.
Actually, she could have just used the treatment pod; it would have been faster and had no side effects, just more painful. Qiao Yan thought that if she used the treatment pod, Nan Shuyin would probably be able to go back to school soon.
She glanced at Nan Yayin beside her and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he was no longer so nervous.
Nan Yayin twisted the hem of her dress, as if she wanted to tear it to shreds. Finally, as if she had made a decision, she asked Qiao Yan, "How long can you stay?"
Qiao Yan glanced at the terminal. "About half an hour more."
“Come with me.”
Qiao Yan was led to the stairwell, which was now only used as an escape route and was dark and deserted.
Nan Yayin closed the door, leaving not even a crack through which light could pass.
"What is this?" Qiao Yan hadn't figured out what was going on when she sensed someone approaching her. She knew it was Nan Yayin. Then she smelled a fresh yet bitter scent.
The scent of sage is the pheromone of Nan Ya Yin.
Compared to his cautious, almost elusive presence at home, his presence was intensely palpable in this dark stairwell, almost making her feel lightheaded.
Omega pheromones are not without their destructive potential; at least, they possess a formidable ability to alter the mind of an Alpha. Qiao Yan prided himself on being unaffected by external influences, but even he couldn't gain the upper hand under such an onslaught.
It's a natural instinct, or a 99% match.
She had the urge to get closer and embrace him. The Omega in front of her was someone she wanted to protect, and nothing was safer than having him by her side.
Her night vision was excellent; the hallway wasn't completely dark. The faint light from the indicator lights illuminated a small outline of Nan Ya Yin's body, very close to her. The last thing that came this close was an invading creature from another planet.
Just one step, only one step away, and her head could rest on his shoulder; just one step away, and she could touch his glands.
Whether to take this step or not follow one's instincts is a difficult choice for Qiao Yan right now.
"I told you, control your pheromones!" Nan Yayin pushed away Qiao Yan, who had just taken half a step.
Qiao Yan subconsciously touched the back of her neck, only then realizing that in addition to Nan Ya Yin's sage scent, there was also her sweet, creamy pheromone in the air.
"Sorry." Qiao Yan was somewhat grateful that it was pitch black here, otherwise if he had discovered that she had actually taken a step forward or was about to hug him, she would probably have been scolded half to death.
The terminal in her pocket started ringing, reminding her that class was about to start. "I have to go to class now. Sorry, I'll come back tonight."
Nan Ya Yin's ears were ringing. He squatted on the ground and watched her leave hurriedly from the stairwell. Perhaps influenced by the pheromones, he actually felt reluctant to part with her.
Damn it! Nan Yayin pinched his thigh hard, but he couldn't deny that he really liked Qiao Yan's pheromones. The sweet scent of cream was exactly the same as the scent of cakes from the streets or the new district avenues back then. It was a scent of happiness and sweetness.
He stared at the light filtering through the door, which wasn't fully closed, the dust glistening within it, but no one came to open the door again.
