Daily Life 2
Qiao Yan's promised trip was finally about to begin after a week of vacation. She was originally going to go on the first day, and all her things were packed. However, Nan Yayin's application to return to school was approved a few days ago, and dealing with the school enrollment issues would take some time, so it had to be postponed.
Qiao Yan originally wanted to go with him, but he flatly refused, saying that he couldn't possibly not handle such a small matter.
Today should be the end of it, Qiao Yan thought as she lay in bed. The past six months had been "tumultuous," and she was finally able to have a long vacation where she could catch her breath.
Nan Yayin went to the old town early to handle some matters. Before she left, she seemed to wake up and heard him say that he would be back soon. He took the initiative to kiss her, which was quite rare for him.
Qiao Yan wondered if she was dreaming. The birds chirping outside kept going, so she got up and took a walk since she didn't usually sleep in.
Nan Shuyin's door was still closed. Ever since Nan Yayin shared a room with her, the little girl had her own private space. Nan Shuyin was worried that she might be scared, but she was very happy and said that she finally had her own room.
Qiao Yan recalled their house in the old town. In her memory, apart from the living room, there was only one bedroom, which was probably designed as a single room from the beginning.
When she first went in, she found that the only relatively tidy room in that small and cluttered space was a sofa with some seasonal clothes folded up.
The two of them probably slept on the sofa and that's how they lived for several years.
No wonder Shuyin was overjoyed when she heard that the room was for her to use.
After having breakfast downstairs, Qiao Yan checked her terminal for a while, then went to sit in the courtyard as usual. The climate in Bailuxing was good, and flowers could be grown all year round. In her small courtyard, the roses had already climbed an entire wall.
If she saw Nan Yayin sitting in the courtyard, she would bring over some desserts she had just made and then say, trying to cover up her true feelings, that the scenery here was nice.
The courtyard was quiet, but Qiao Yan always felt like someone might suddenly come. After lying in the rocking chair for almost an hour, she suddenly realized that this was just like her previous life.
Now her house is always bustling with activity. It's only been half a year, and she can hardly remember what life was like before.
Even Xiao Lu isn't here today. They're planning to go on a trip. Shu Yin asked if they could bring Xiao Lu along. Qiao Yan hadn't really hoped for it, but Shu Juan said she happened to have a simplified version made and it was still with her.
Now, only the rocking chair that Nan Yayin had carefully bought could tell her that she was no longer the only one in the house, although she was still too scared to sit in it again after buying it because of the strong feeling of weightlessness.
She asked him if he had tried sitting on it when he bought it. He said he didn't feel that strongly about it at the time, and that it matched his small courtyard.
Qiao Yan still remembers how he felt embarrassed, so he took her chair away, saying that since she wasn't scared, she could sit down and that it shouldn't be wasted.
As they swayed back and forth, Qiao Yan suddenly heard a rustling sound coming from the small courtyard.
She looked over but didn't notice anything wrong. Everyone had already gone back to bed when she suddenly heard a clear chirping sound coming from the yard.
"Woof!"
Qiao Yan looked up abruptly, and a small brown dog emerged from the rose bushes on the wall, waddling along on its limbs, which it had only recently met, towards Qiao Yan.
Where did this puppy come from? Qiao Yan got off the rocking chair.
The puppy was clearly familiar with the area; it didn't sniff around or look around curiously, but went straight to the small terrace.
Qiao Yan reached out her hand and made sucking noises to attract it over.
The little guy wobbled over, holding up his front legs and tucking his hind legs. He wasn't afraid of Qiao Yan at all. He carefully sniffed her hand and then climbed up to see if there was anything to eat.
Qiao Yan grabbed the little guy, "So it wasn't covered in fur, it was covered in flesh."
Its belly was round and full, clearly indicating that someone had fed it; perhaps someone's dog had accidentally wandered out and into her yard.
When the puppy saw that it had been caught, it twisted its body and tried to break free, but Qiao Yan put it on the rocking chair.
"Woof..."
The puppy was too small, and the rocking chair was too high. It held onto the wooden frame of the rocking chair and looked down at the ground, too afraid to jump down.
"Whose house did it get lost from?" Qiao Yan bent her index finger and rubbed it against the puppy's fluffy chin. "It looks like a potato."
The puppy shivered twice, then looked at Qiao Yan proudly and barked, "Woof!"
Oh my, she's got quite a temper.
The puppy is so familiar with the environment here, it's obvious that it has not only come here secretly, but also interacted with several residents here, and probably had quite a few interactions with them in private.
Qiao Yan put her hand near the puppy's nose, and the puppy stopped barking.
There was a familiar scent; Qiao Yan knew that besides the smell of cream, whose scent was on her?
She stroked the puppy's head and heard hurried footsteps coming from upstairs.
Upon seeing that it was Qiao Yan playing with the puppy, Nan Shuyin stopped in her tracks and greeted her sweetly, "Good morning, sister."
"Good morning." Qiao Yan picked up the puppy.
Although Nan Shuyin was still shy, she had become much closer to Qiao Yan. Normally, she would no longer use such polite formalities. The fact that she was saying this meant that she felt she had done something wrong.
Qiao Yan walked over and asked her, "Have you washed up?"
Nan Shuyin shook her head, her eyes fixed on the puppy.
"Go wash up first, and tell me where it came from after you've had breakfast," Qiao Yan said, turning her around and pushing her upstairs.
Nan Shuyin nodded quickly, then ran off in her slippers.
Qiao Yan looked at the puppy in her arms. "When did you arrive? You didn't say a word before you came, and you didn't even let them tell me. I thought you were lost."
The little potato dog was searching for a warm place and wandering around aimlessly. Qiao Yan couldn't help but laugh and picked it up. Nan Shuyin quickly finished washing up, grabbed a piece of breakfast, asked her for it, and then stuffed the puppy into the little girl's hands.
"Where did it come from?" Qiao Yan asked her after washing her hands.
"It's a puppy born to the pizza place next door."
The puppy kissed the child, its tail wagging like a propeller; any faster and it might fly upside down.
“Several days ago, it suddenly crawled out of the small garden into the kitchen. My brother said it’s like a pizza; it comes over as soon as it smells something delicious.” Nan Shuyin chewed her breakfast and said indistinctly, “We were worried that it would trample the roses, but there’s a small hole over there just big enough for it to get through. I don’t know how it found it.”
“We talked to the owners of the pizza place next door, and they said that this puppy is at its most energetic stage. The pizza place has given birth to four or five puppies and they can’t take care of them all. If you don’t mind, you can feed it some goat milk.” Nan Shuyin pointed to the kitchen cabinet. “It’s right there. The pizza place owners gave it to us.”
Qiao Yan thought to herself, no wonder there had been so much barking from the neighbor's dog lately. She had thought they had gotten two more puppies to keep Pizza company.
"Why didn't you tell me about something so interesting?" Qiao Yan teased the puppy in Shu Yin's arms. The puppy, with its toothless mouth, pinched her finger. Remembering that she had just washed her hands, she sighed.
"Because we were worried it might be a little dirty." Nan Shuyin stroked the puppy's tail. "But we always keep it clean. We didn't let it into the house before, except for the first time it came in by itself. This is the first time."
Qiao Yan didn't care much about these things. She felt that they were considerate of her feelings, but she also felt that they were being a bit too distant.
"It's okay, you can come in and have fun," Qiao Yan said gently.
Just then, the door opened, and Nan Yayin saw Qiao Yan standing in the hall. He immediately went up to her and hugged her, saying, "You got up so early. I thought you were still in bed when I got back."
"How could I be so sleepy?" Qiao Yan was about to hug him back when she remembered that there was still puppy drool on her hands, so she nudged them with her elbow to express her longing.
When Nan Yayin entered, she only saw Qiao Yan. Shuyin was blocked by the table. When she looked down, she saw her younger sister holding a puppy. Both of them looked up at her.
Nan Yayin immediately jumped out of Qiao Yan's arms, "Uh, um, what, what's going on?"
Even Shuyin is up this early today? It's only 10 o'clock. Shouldn't you be resting today? You're going on a trip tomorrow.
"Brother," Nan Shuyin handed him the puppy, "it's been discovered."
Nan Yayin was a little nervous after hearing this. "We...we just don't want to be too harsh on the puppies, and the owners of the pizza place next door can't take care of them all. We usually take them back around noon. They said the puppies are almost four weeks old and will probably need to find new homes soon."
Qiao Yan didn't dislike small animals; in fact, Shu Juan suggested she get one, because she felt she would grow old alone and having a living creature would make her feel more like a person.
She was just too busy and didn't have much time to take care of her pets. The dog was too clingy and the cat was too wild. In the end, Qiao Yan felt that she was fine on her own.
“I have no problem with just playing with it.” Qiao Yan pinched the scruff of the puppy’s neck. “But we’ll have to wait until we get back from our trip. Let it stay with its mother for a couple more days, and then we’ll ask the pizza owner when we get back.”
Nan Shuyin reacted first than Nan Yayin, "Really!" She happily hugged the puppy and spun around in place.
Nan Ya Yin frowned, then smiled helplessly and said, "Actually, you didn't need to..."
He really didn't think Qiao Yan was the type of person who would keep a pet, and he was worried that the pets would make her unhappy.
Seeing his restraint, Qiao Yan said seriously, "I'm only responsible for playing with it every day, not taking care of it. Guess how I know that the dog next door is called Supreme Invincible Pizza?"
Nan Yayin was taken aback. Right, Qiao Yan wasn't the type to strike up conversations. "Is it because Pizza crawled through that hole when it was little?"
Qiao Yan shook her head. "It's because I saw their dog on the street and it was so well-behaved that I wanted to lure it over. I thought calling it by its full name would be helpful, but it wasn't."
Then she thought for a moment and laughed, saying, "It's much harder than holding a real pizza. If I had known this day would come, I should have waited in front of that pizza shop earlier than them and picked it up to take care of it."
Nan Yayin didn't understand what Qiao Yan meant, but she didn't continue.
She was thinking that it might seduce someone even more lovable.
