"Oh, really?" Jiang Yuan deliberately drawled out his words.
"Boss, you wait here, I'll go negotiate!"
After being encouraged, the clownfish had finally mustered the courage to play ranked matches, so it didn't want to become a burden to the clown league. Now was its best chance to make a contribution.
"Kid, don't be reckless!" Jiang Yuan gave him a special warning, but didn't stop him. After all, he had to experience the harshness of the world himself.
"Don't worry, leave it to me!"
The clownfish gave Jiang Yuan a thumbs-up with a very confident expression, but as soon as it turned around, its face instantly put on a mask of pain.
"Clownfish, oh clownfish, why did you have to be so stubborn? Now you really look like a clown. Let's see how you deal with them later!"
The clownfish was already cursing itself in its heart, but the man had to make up for the boast he made, even if it meant crying.
The first ladder was eerily quiet, except for the clownfish walking heavily toward the ladder guardian.
The ladder guardian seemed curious about what this newly promoted king's legion was up to, so he simply waited for the clownfish to walk towards him.
One step, two steps—the clownfish had no idea how it got to the ladder guardian; it felt like an eternity had passed.
"Wow, these people from the King's Legion are truly extraordinary! They're at the third level of the Divine Realm. If you didn't know better, you'd think they were just some nobody from some backwater!"
As the clownfish approached, the ladder guard let out a harsh, mocking sound.
"Um... Lord Ladder Guardian, I am Clownfish!" Clownfish stammered, speaking strangely.
"Clownfish?" The ladder guard looked at him strangely. Was this guy out of his mind? Couldn't he see that his tone was off? This should be the start of a fight, not this kind of opening.
"I'm Little Yellow Fish's friend, you know, that Little Yellow Fish who's your distant cousin from outside," the clownfish stammered, trying to establish a connection.
"Um?"
The ladder guard looked puzzled. Where did this elite army come from? They looked like clowns.
"I admit, my older brother's voice was a bit loud just now!"
After stammering for a while, the clownfish finally got to the point. It glanced back at the people below and whispered, "There are too many people outside, and he's too embarrassed to make a scene. So, Lord Ladder Guard, could you please let this go for the sake of us being Little Yellow Fish's friends?"
"..."
For a moment, the ladder guardian was lost in thought. It had imagined countless scenarios of the Joker Alliance entering the first ladder, and it had even thought about being defeated in one blow. But this was the only one that was about to beg for peace.
It was truly unexpected.
"Wait, are you here as a persuader?" The ladder guard finally realized that this was a real clown.
“Lord of the ladder, we’re new here and don’t want to cause trouble. We just want to live peacefully…”
"Stop, alright, since you don't want trouble, then make a statement!" The ladder guard looked at the clownfish with a mocking smile.
The clownfish swallowed hard and said guiltily, "There are too many people outside, so I'll kneel down here for my boss, okay?"
"Fun! Fun!"
The ladder keeper found it amusing twice, then nodded and said, "Alright, let's begin. I'm enjoying your performance!"
With the ladder guardian's promise, the clownfish breathed a sigh of relief. It was alright for it to kneel down; as the saying goes, a man's knees are worth gold. It was just taking out its 'gold' to deal with the predicament, nothing serious.
Just as the clownfish was about to kneel down, an invisible force acted on its body, locking its already weakening knees tightly, as taut as steel.
"To defeat the enemy, the first thing you must learn is to overcome the fear in your heart!"
Words as faint as ripples on water entered the clownfish's mind.
"You have two choices: swing your sword at it, or swing it at yourself! Instead of using your dignity, which anyone can trample on, to insult me, to insult the Joker League!"
The clownfish stood there, stunned.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you kneeling down? Do you want me to call the others to watch?" the ladder guard said leisurely.
"Fine, I'll kneel!"
The clownfish trembled inside, but its centuries-old instincts prevented it from drawing its sword against the stronger creature.
With a thud, the clownfish knelt on the ground, along with Jiang Yuan's face.
"That bastard!" Jiang Yuan said expressionlessly. This bastard really was a bit of a clown.
"Interesting, he actually knelt down!"
The ladder guard was also quite surprised. This guy was too spineless. It glanced at Jiang Yuan in the distance, and then, emboldened by evil, stepped on the clownfish and said while crushing it, "Since you've already knelt down, why don't you let him kneel down too!"
"Lord Ladder Guardian, didn't you just promise to let us go?" The clownfish pleaded, suppressing its anger despite being trampled on.
"Yes, if you kneel, I'll let you go! If he kneels, I'll let him go!"
The ladder keeper smiled smugly. He squatted down, picked up the clownfish, and laughed, "You're a clown, aren't you? Be a good dog by my side from now on, and you'll be well-fed bones!"
"I..." The clownfish trembled all over.
"As for him, he might not be qualified to be a dog, but he'd be barely qualified to be a dead man!" The ladder guard had no intention of letting Jiang Yuan go.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, the clownfish, who was extremely frustrated, finally couldn't hold back anymore.
"Fuck you!"
A cold glint flashed, leaving a white mark on the ladder guard's face.
