Chapter 77 Chatting on the Rooftop

The two went through an extremely graphic three minutes, which ended with Ning Yanlan coughing uncontrollably.

"Cough! Cough!"

"Are you alright?" Jiang Yuan patted Ning Yanlan on the back.

"You did this on purpose?" Ning Yanlan stopped coughing and glared at Jiang Yuan resentfully.

"You're the one apologizing, so I'll take your apology seriously. Otherwise, it wouldn't be sincere!" Jiang Yuan said shamelessly.

Ning Yanlan was so angry that she ground her teeth. Just a few days ago, Jiang Yuan was still being a scoundrel in a very subtle way, but now this guy is even acting like a righteous scoundrel. Can you believe how infuriating that is?

"The fire's all out, you come and grill it yourself!" Ning Yanlan felt awkward whenever she saw Jiang Yuan, so she turned around and started fiddling with the grilled meat.

Jiang Yuan got up to prepare the barbecue, but he didn't stop talking, asking, "Do you miss home?"

"I miss it, but I can't go back now!" Ning Yanlan tossed a small fireball to light the charcoal. "I want to eat my mom's cooking!"

"Once things settle down in Nancheng, let's go to Ancheng together!" Jiang Yuan's face held a unique expression, a contradictory feeling of longing yet resistance.

"Where in Ancheng is your hometown?" Ning Yanlan asked. Jiang Yuan had mentioned before that his hometown was in Ancheng, but he hadn't specified which part.

"It used to be there, but it's gone now!" Jiang Yuan smiled faintly, a hint of sadness in his smile.

"Why?" Ning Yanlan asked curiously.

"Didn't I tell you I'm an orphan?" After Jiang Yuan finished speaking, the sadness and loneliness on his face gradually turned into a carefree attitude. "Actually, being an orphan isn't so bad. You can take root wherever you are, and anywhere can be your home!"

"Ha!" Jiang Yuan chuckled self-deprecatingly, gazing at the night sky outside.

“It used to be, but it’s not anymore!” Ning Yanlan reached out and put her hand on his shoulder.

"Really?" Jiang Yuan laughed, though somewhat reluctantly, it was still sincere.

"I'm not joking with you!" Ning Yanlan said very seriously. "Now you have me, that's like family!"

Jiang Yuan didn't reply, but he just kept smiling foolishly.

“Besides, next time you come with me to Ancheng to meet my parents, you’ll have two more relatives.” Ning Yanlan counted on her fingers, “See, I’m worth three people.”

"You idiot, your meat is burnt! Flip it over!"

Jiang Yuan was stunned after hearing this, and Ning Yanlan finally spoke up to remind him.

"Do you have any wine without vinegar? Let's go upstairs and drink!" Jiang Yuan flipped the large chunks of meat in his hand.

"You're such a fool, you won't believe me. We're already on the top floor, how can we go upstairs to drink?" Ning Yanlan said with a silly laugh.

“There’s another layer!” Jiang Yuan looked up at the tiled roof.

"Are you kidding me?! If someone falls from there, they could die. It's over twenty meters high!" Ning Yanlan slapped Jiang Yuan's arm.

“Didn’t you say you wanted to see the sunrise? How can you see the sunrise if you don’t go up there!” Jiang Yuan said.

"There's no sun, how can we see the sunrise!" Ning Yanlan shook her head.

“Sunrise is just a formality, and observing the changes at different times of day at the Golden Gate is the same principle!” Jiang Yuan turned to look at Ning Yanlan. Her eyes always stirred up unspoken emotions in him, a feeling he had only experienced twice.

“Go up! But you have to hold on tight to me, I’m a little afraid of heights!” Ning Yanlan said.

At three in the morning, a man and a woman who had been up all night committing murder climbed up the roof of the tower along the eaves. It didn't seem like a murder committed at night; it was more like an unusual date.

"It's a bit high!" Ning Yanlan glanced down, but immediately turned back, too scared to look.

There was no protection whatsoever, and they were walking right on the edge of the roof. If someone hadn't been holding Ning Yanlan back, she would have given up long ago.

"The slope is gentler over there, let's sit there!"

Jiang Yuan pointed to a spot, and after Ning Yanlan agreed, he led her to that location.

Twenty meters wasn't too high for Jiang Yuan; thirty points of strength were more than enough to withstand the impact. However, with Ning Yanlan around, he still had to be careful.

"Sigh, this is all the entertainment we have in this apocalypse!" Ning Yanlan said with a smile after sitting down.

"Yeah, it takes some getting used to! But compared to surviving, what habit can't be changed!"

Jiang Yuan looked down and continued, "Just like before, who could have imagined that human power alone could be used to scale walls and roofs?"

"What if one day we become powerful enough to fly away from Earth?" Ning Yanlan suddenly had a wild idea.

"Perhaps, but that's too far off. We haven't even figured out the cause of this disaster yet, so who knows what the future holds!" Jiang Yuan took out the plate of meat.

"Hey, by the way, did you notice that you became stronger after eating the beast meat?" Ning Yanlan suddenly asked.

"Get stronger?" Jiang Yuan frowned. After his Heavenly Eye didn't detect any increase in his strength, he said, "No, it didn't. But it really stopped me from being hungry. I feel like I could go for days without eating!"

The flesh of the Holy Spirit Beast was strange; it didn't give Jiang Yuan a feeling of fullness, but his physical strength seemed very abundant, as if he were a bear storing energy in his body after eating to prepare for winter.

"Then why do I feel like my strength has increased a bit?" Ning Yanlan asked, puzzled.

"Really?" Jiang Yuan used his Heavenly Eye to detect that Ning Yanlan's strength had indeed increased to six points.

"Last time I ate monster meat, my strength didn't increase, but this time it did!" Ning Yanlan thought for a moment. "Is it a matter of rank?"

"Not necessarily!" Jiang Yuan shook his head, recalling, "Do you remember the data on the USB drive?"

"Are you trying to talk about the difference between a holy spirit and a monster?" Ning Yanlan asked tentatively.

“Yes! Holy spirits and monsters are different. Monsters are creatures native to Earth that have been awakened, but Holy spirits are brought by the Golden Gate. They are fundamentally very different!” Jiang Yuan said.
