Flame 14

"Fake person"

Conan Edogawa repeated the title. From the literal meaning, it means disguised as a human. He really couldn't figure out what the Mendoza couple had done to deserve such a title. Even Haibara Ai cast a curious look at them - her parents were only called "mad scientists" and excluded, but the Mendoza couple were directly expelled from the human race.

"I need to think about the specific situation..." Facing the puzzled eyes of the two children, Dr. Agasa scratched his bald forehead, "It was decades ago. I remember it was a scientific seminar on developing brain potential..."

The old scientist gradually sorted out his logic and began to tell the story of the past. "The human brain is complex in structure. It is said that 90% of its potential has not been developed. We were discussing what methods should be used to successfully develop the potential of the brain."

"Mendoza and his wife spoke at the end of the discussion. Before that, they had been sitting in a corner. The wife had red hair, which was a particularly bright color, and the husband had brown hair and wore glasses. They had been listening to others' speeches very attentively." At this point, Dr. Agasa showed an expression of disgust and resistance. "Everyone present had a good impression of them until they spoke."

"The husband spoke first," Dr. Agasa sighed. He sat next to Huihara Ai and touched the little girl's head. "He advocated using external stimulation to properly 'adjust' the brain. Methods include but are not limited to drugs, electric shock, hypnosis, surgery..."

"Isn't this abuse?" Edogawa Conan interrupted Dr. Agasa in disbelief, "Are they serious?!"

"After all, this is not a formal scientific seminar. Most of the participants are inventors like me. No one expected that someone would publicly put forward such a view. Before we could react, we heard his wife add to it." Dr. Agasa smiled bitterly. "It is unnecessary for the couple to cooperate. Mrs. Mendoza also said that compared with the acquired environmental experiment, we should also consider the innate. They have found the appropriate-"

"Are they crazy?" Even though the organization had conducted human experiments and the parents were known for distorting scientific ethics, Huiyuan Ai still asked in shock, "Are they planning to genetically—"

Dr. Agasa nodded. "We didn't let them continue talking." He took a few deep breaths. It was obvious that this memory had been deliberately avoided before. "Although it was not stated explicitly, they were almost forced to leave."

"So," Edogawa Conan said solemnly, "Is it because the Mendoza couple were too unscrupulous in their research that they were called 'fake people'?"

"That's one thing," Dr. Agasa took a sip from the teacup, "and the other thing is..."

"The way they spoke, the tone of their voice, and the way they were asked to leave at the end were all too calm."

"The wife held her belly while the husband held her shoulders and left."

"I didn't feel any emotion at all, and I always maintained a cool and polite attitude."

Do you think there is anything wrong with eating and drinking water?

The red-haired woman frowned in confusion. She leaned on her husband's arms and faced the scientists who were restraining their anger. She asked in a tone as if asking about today's dinner.

The development of science always requires sacrifice. Why should we get excited about such a normal thing?

"Later, they disappeared," Dr. Agasa shrugged, "I don't know where they went..."

Just hope they don't find like-minded people.
