The Tree of Ahippis 13
"Let's go to the veterinary clinic," Huihara Ai fastened her seat belt. Watson nestled in her lap without making any noises. He just looked at the car critically with his green eyes. "Pet chip scanning requires specific equipment. We have to wait until the doctor scans the chip number and model before we can check the platform to see the chip information."
"But, Ai," Dr. Agasa started the car, and Conan Edogawa sat in the back seat with his hands folded, thinking, "Why are you so sure that Watson has a chip?" Although the old man didn't know the details of the matter, after Conan Edogawa's simple explanation, he also understood that a child that Ai was very close to had passed away recently, "Is it a gift from your friend?"
"Yes," Huihara Ai nodded, ignoring the complicated look of Edogawa Conan, who only found out today that Watson was actually a gift from Julian. "Although I'm not sure, based on my understanding of him...them," the brown-haired girl paused before continuing, "They always like little surprises like this."
"Have you been in contact with him?" Edogawa Conan couldn't help but ask, "Since you left until now?"
"No," Huihara Ai's fingers were stuck in Watson's soft fur. The black cat purred and licked the back of the girl's hand with its barbed tongue. "Before I decided to leave... Alvin, Julian's brother, and I," she was dazed again when she mentioned the red-haired man in front of others after several months. "We had a big fight, and we even broke up... It wasn't until Julian came to my house with Watson to explain to me not long ago that I realized I had wronged them. We have been in touch again since then..."
In other words, Haibara Ai didn't know much either... Edogawa Conan was silent for a moment. He knew that now was not a good time to ask more questions, so he could only ask another question, "What about Julian's death..." He thought of the energetic boy he had met once and was filled with emotion, "Does his brother have any opinion?"
"He's dead too," Haibara Ai paused for a moment while petting the cat, and said in a light tone, "Before Julian's accident, he died in a fire," Edogawa Conan widened his eyes, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated. As a detective, his professional instinct to pursue the truth and to ask for clues was in constant conflict with his empathy as a friend who should be considerate and ignore it at this moment. "You can ask if you want, but I don't necessarily know much more than you... Edogawa-kun, what's that sound behind you?"
Dr. Agasa also stepped on the brakes at this time. The scheduled destination had been reached. The momentary silence in the car also allowed the three people in the car to hear the sounds of pain and rolling coming from the trunk. The vigilant expression on Edogawa Conan's face gradually faded and turned into a speechless expression. "I say, you guys," the boy got out of the car, opened the trunk and spoke to the people inside, "What are you doing again?"
In the open trunk, the huddled Young Detective Team gave Edogawa Conan an awkward smile.
