Chapter 57 Spy

Chapter 57 Spy

The room was quiet.

The buzzing sound suddenly became particularly noticeable. Hearing the noise, the scarred man looked up and cautiously looked around. Only when he found that there was only a buzzing sound did he put his suspicions aside.

Mosquitoes are rare this season, but they're not entirely absent, especially since this house has plants and water.

Under the cover of the buzzing sound, She Ning carefully tiptoed into the room, trying to avoid bumping into anything on the floor and making a sound. She was on high alert.

As she approached, She Ning could make out the words on the cover of the notebook by the sudden appearance of moonlight.

Contact List

In her previous life, she often accompanied her grandparents to watch anti-Japanese war dramas. Recalling the various situations Zhang Jianbing reported about in his daily life, She Ning couldn't help but have a guess.

A walking 500,000 RMB.

Upon realizing this possibility, She Ning's gaze towards the scarred man changed. She took out the slingshot that had been idle in the system's storage compartment for a long time and held it in her hand. The portable crossbow bolts that were made at the same time as the slingshot were also hung on her waist for easy access.

The scarred man looked like a tough opponent, and if it weren't unavoidable, She Ning wouldn't want to fight him head-on. If she could win without bloodshed, that would be the best outcome. Besides, she wanted to see where he planned to go and who he was going to see after taking the notebook.

[Crow.]

She Ning silently prayed to her, and Ya Ya immediately cooperated outside by making a noise. The scarred man fell for it and shoved the box back into place. He turned and went straight to the source of the noise.

The man was very vigilant, afraid that he would realize what was happening. Inside the room, She Ning quickly opened the hidden compartment and switched the notebook with something else.

Looking at the fake with a cover exactly the same as the original but with scrambled content, She Ning once again felt fortunate that she had used the Dwarf Hammer to upgrade the transmogrification gloves; they were simply too useful.

After the scarred man rushed outside, Ya Ya stopped moving, his triangular eyes squinting as he surveyed his surroundings. The wind rustled through the treetops as he quickly searched the yard, but found nothing.

"Oh no," he muttered to himself, turning and rushing back into the room. He went straight to the solid wood table, quickly opened the hidden compartment, and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the notebook lying untouched in its box.

He took the notebook out and placed it close to his chest. The scarred man quickly restored the room to its original state, then crossed the yard, climbed over the wall from a blind spot in the room, and ran out.

She Ning returned to sharing the same view with Ya Ya, put away the puppet, and Ya Ya flew high, following the person at a distance.

The man turned left and right in the alley, and finally stopped near a courtyard covered with ivy. The gate to the courtyard was locked and sealed with tape.

A black bird landed on the wall opposite the yard, preened its feathers, and watched him quietly.

The scarred man walked skillfully to the edge of the courtyard wall, cautiously looked around, then used a cloth to cushion the broken glass on the wall, jogged over to assist, pressed his hand against the wall, pushed off with his foot, and climbed over.

A black bird flapped its wings and followed him, landing on the welcoming pine tree in the courtyard. She knew this place well; it was one of the strongholds of the previous smuggling case, the house where Brother Kun was stationed.

After the house was raided, the police destroyed all the secret passages inside, so it should be considered abandoned.

Hiding in a corner, she switched to a puppet, transforming into a mosquito, and followed closely behind the scarred man.

She wanted to see what he was planning to do.

After the scarred man entered the yard, he went straight to the storage room. Before She Ning could even guess what was in the storage room, he had already come out with a hoe, his goal clear. He went straight to an inconspicuous flower bed in the corner and started digging.

After digging a deep pit, he took the notebook out of his chest, put it in a wooden box, and placed it at the bottom of the pit. He filled it halfway with soil, tamped the soil in the pit firmly, then buried another box in it, and then filled it with soil again, tamped it down, and cleaned up any marks on the surface.

After finishing all this, he returned to his room, lit a candle, and began writing a note in the candlelight. She Ning held her breath and stood on tiptoe to watch.

The note had no beginning or end, only three words.

Processed.

After finishing all this, the scarred man folded the note and tied it to a small stone. At dawn, just as the sky was beginning to lighten, he went to the vicinity of the police station, wandered around the area a few times, and barked softly like a dog.

A moment later, a red dot appeared on one of the detention cell windows. The scarred man threw in a small stone with a note attached to it. To confuse the situation, he threw several more stones around the cell. Before anyone could come out to check, he retreated.

In the detention cell, after reading the note, Zhang Jianbing ate it and then calmly lay on the bed waiting for his detention period to end.

The most dangerous place is the safest place. Who would have thought that the evidence proving he was a leopard would be at another crime scene? Without any proof, once the 72 hours are up, he can fly freely.

After leaving, he went to Hong Kong to lay low for a while before returning.

Zhang Jianbing idly twirled the jade ring on his thumb, his eyelids drooping and his face expressionless.

Outside, Ya Ya followed the scarred man, while She Ning transformed into a mosquito and flew into the director's office. Just like before, she cut out words from the newspaper, made them into a letter, explained the whole story, and then placed the contact list underneath.

She Ning waited on the side until they had all read the letters and lists and made arrangements for the operation before buzzing away with peace of mind.

"Mosquitoes are already here so early?" After assigning tasks, Director Li muttered to herself, a little puzzled by the buzzing sound. She didn't think much of it, grabbed her police hat, and went out the door.

According to the information on the list, the arrest went very smoothly. The scarred man, who had just returned home, was handcuffed by the police who broke down the door before he could even lie down.

Zhang Jianbing, who was still calm and collected in the detention room, had not yet come to his senses when he was informed that the 72-hour detention had been changed to a formal arrest.

Spies hiding in other places were also notified to go to the local police stations in their respective jurisdictions and participate in the operation.

The operation proceeded with lightning speed; all those on the list were apprehended, including Leopard, one of the spy ringleaders who had been operating in China for decades.

"Thanks to you all, otherwise this leopard would have really gotten away," Zhu Weijun said with a smile, the three ridges between his eyebrows smoothing out considerably.

Upon hearing that the leopard had been caught, Zhu Feng, who had also arrived at the scene leaning on his crutches, nodded.

That's right. She originally thought that the information had been leaked and the leopard had changed his mind at the last minute, which was why he didn't show up. Who knew that he would be detained for smuggling wild animals by a twist of fate? If An'an hadn't been quick to notice something was wrong and detained him, he would have already escaped.

"Commander Zhu, you flatter me. If the troops hadn't secretly captured the criminals in the mountains, we wouldn't have known that such a big pest existed in Xiahe Town."

"Having been lurking in the country for decades, Leopard has sent out countless intelligence reports and harmed countless national interests," Director Li said indignantly. "His capture this time is truly gratifying."

Zhu Weijun nodded, his tone somewhat relaxed, "This operation has exposed so many spies who have harmed national interests, dealing a significant blow to the spy network that has been lurking in the country for decades, and making the country's security defenses even stronger."

"However, we cannot let our guard down. Criminals are always thinking about harming national interests and endangering national security. We must continue to work hard, strengthen prevention and investigation, and resolutely fight criminals to the end."

Director Li nodded in agreement.

She Ning stayed in town until she saw the main force return to base, at which point her consciousness left Ya Ya.

Upon seeing a living, breathing 500,000 RMB being arrested for the first time, She Ning was extremely excited. After returning to her original body, even though she hadn't slept all night, she didn't feel sleepy at all and was full of energy.

In a great mood, she went to the She family restaurant with She Hongmei early in the morning to help prepare the dishes and tidy up the shop. While packing her small handbag, She Ning called out to She Hongmei, who was outside starting the stove, "Mom, I'm going to the market."

When she's in a good mood, she wants to cook something delicious.

Today happens to be market day, and the market is much busier than usual with many more vendors. There are all sorts of things to eat, drink, and use. The market is bustling and noisy, and whether in her previous life or now, She Ning loves this kind of lively atmosphere.

After selecting some wild mushrooms and herbs that can only be found in the mountains, and some medicinal herbs for making soup, She Ning sat down at the steaming noodle stall and ordered a plate of char siu and rice noodle rolls with an egg.

Within minutes, the owner brought over the rice noodle rolls. The special soy sauce wasn't as dark in color as regular soy sauce, and it had a unique aroma. It was salty with a hint of sweetness, and She Ning liked to eat it with chili.

The bright red chili sauce paired with slightly sweet char siu and tender egg rice noodle rolls creates a delightful combination. With each bite, you'll find the perfectly balanced lean and fatty char siu to be juicy and tender, the egg rice noodle rolls to be smooth and tender, and the chili sauce and soy sauce to be both spicy and sweet. The three flavors intertwine and complement each other in your mouth, making every bite unforgettable.

The owner of this restaurant makes his own chili sauce. He chops up bright red millet peppers, stir-fries them in plenty of oil, adds some seasonings, and then lets them cool before bottling them.

People in the southern province don't eat spicy food very well, but they love it. The owner's chili sauce is the extra spicy kind. They always dip a spoon in a little chili oil and then drip it onto rice noodle rolls or soup noodles. After setting up the stall for a whole morning, the owner's chili sauce is still a full jar.

This chili sauce is also great for making steamed fish head with chopped chili.

After buying a jar of chili sauce from the shop owner, She Ning continued shopping, buying sesame peanut candy and candied hawthorn for She Ni, and clothes for She Hongmei and her grandmother. After shopping for most of the day, carrying her full load of spoils, she prepared to head home.

"Give it to me!" She Ning said sternly, grabbing the person who was passing by her.

"What are you doing? Let go!" the man who was being grabbed shouted as he struggled. He tried to push her away, but he couldn't break free from the slender hand.

She Ning has always insisted on running, practicing horse stance, practicing Baduanjin, learning martial arts from Chen Shengnan, stir-frying dishes, and nourishing her body with spiritual rice porridge every day. She looks delicate, but in reality, she is very strong.

"He's hitting me! He's hitting me!" Seeing that he couldn't break free, the man decided to play the victim and waved to the people around him to intervene and seek justice.

The market hadn't even closed yet when many people were drawn in by the excitement, and soon they were surrounded by a crowd.

"What's wrong?"

"I heard someone got into a fight."
