Chapter 63, Banner

Chapter 63, Banner

People come and go in the hospital.

"Hello, could you please tell me which consultation room Dr. Zheng Ningyu is in?" Standing in front of the information desk, She Hongmei, holding She Ni's hand, smiled and asked the somewhat unfamiliar nurse.

She Ning helped the old lady and followed behind her.

The nurse at the information desk stood up. She had only arrived two days ago and hadn't seen She Ning and the others before. Seeing that they were looking for Dr. Zheng, the nurse asked gently, "What do you need Dr. Zheng for?"

"Dr. Zheng has superb medical skills and a kind heart. I'm giving her a banner." With that, She Hongmei unfurled the bright red banner in her hand.

#Benevolent Heart and Skillful Hands, Miraculous Healing# The eight large golden characters stand out prominently on the red banner.

The young nurse was stunned for a moment when she saw this scene for the first time, but then her eyes lit up with a smile and she said warmly, "Dr. Zheng's office is on the second floor. Turn left and walk straight to the end, then turn right and it's the third room."

"Do you need me to take you there?" the young nurse volunteered, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

Knowing the hospital's location perfectly, She Ning and her companions naturally didn't need it. She Hongmei smiled and politely declined, "You can't leave here either, so I don't want to trouble you. I'll go look for it first, and if I really can't find it, I'll ask you for help."

The nurse glanced at the empty space beside her. Her colleague had just been called away to help, and she was the only one on duty at the triage desk. She really couldn't leave.

Watching She Hongmei walk away with the banner, the young nurse sat back down in her seat, feeling dejected.

It's frustrating to have so much to eat.

"Sister Le, you're back! Let me tell you something..." The nurse's eyes lit up as her colleague returned, and she started chattering away.

"Really?" my colleague Huan asked skeptically.

"Of course! I never lie." The young nurse patted her chest, her eyes filled with a determination that seemed to yearn to join the Party. "That banner was so big and so red, do you know what was written inside?"

"A kind heart and skillful hands, bringing the dead back to life." Before she could even speak, the nurse revealed the answer. She held her face in her hands and exclaimed, "I envy Dr. Zheng. I want to be Dr. Zheng, but Dr. Zheng deserves this title."

Huanjie nodded in agreement.

Dr. Zheng is indeed highly regarded by everyone. He is rigorous in his diagnosis and treatment, conscientious and responsible, has excellent medical skills, a good temper, gets along well with his colleagues, and is very patient with his patients.

She Ning and her companions were unaware of what happened at the information desk. They took the banner and went to the internal medicine department, the surgery department, the director's office, and the hospital director's office, asking around in every department of the hospital, big and small, about where Dr. Zheng's office was. They had come to present the banner, and finally they arrived at Dr. Zheng's office.

When the banner was presented to Dr. Zheng, she was the last person in the entire hospital to know.

"I only did what a doctor should do. This banner is too heavy; I don't deserve it." Gently stroking the golden characters on the banner, Dr. Zheng looked up at She Ning and the others with sincere eyes and said softly.

She Hongmei shook her head, gripped the banner pole tightly, and resolutely handed it to Dr. Zheng, urging her to accept it.

“Dr. Zheng, you deserve it. You saved my mother. Without you, my mother’s health would not have recovered to what it is today. This banner is a token of our family’s appreciation. We hope you will accept it.” She said earnestly.

Standing behind She Hongmei, She Ning nodded vigorously.

Although Grandma fully recovered thanks to the effects of Lingmi and Linglongguo, she wouldn't have recovered so well if it weren't for Dr. Zheng when she had the stroke, let alone the subsequent continuous treatment.

Dr. Zheng truly deserves this banner; she is worthy of it.

Dr. Zheng wanted to decline, but she couldn't resist the enthusiasm of She Ning and the others, so she had no choice but to accept the banner and hang it on the wall of the consultation room.

The red banner, edged with gold thread and adorned with tassels, features eight large gold characters that stand out against the red silk. On the left and right sides of the banner are the names of the recipient, Dr. Zheng Ningyu, and the donors, Chen Yuzhen and her family of four, along with the date, May 1980.

Sunlight streamed through the window and shone on the banner, the golden characters "#BenevolentHeartAndSkilledHealing#" shining brightly.

Because of She Hongmei's seemingly casual gesture of presenting the banner, the entire hospital knew that Dr. Zheng had received a banner from a patient's family. This was the first such case in the hospital, and everyone was very envious. Occasionally, someone would pass by Dr. Zheng's office by chance.

When the dean heard about this, he specifically praised Dr. Zheng at the weekly meeting, called on his colleagues to learn from her, and also rewarded her with a notebook and a Hero fountain pen.

After presenting the banner, Zhu Xiujin hadn't returned yet, so She Ning and the others strolled around the neighborhood. There was a park near the hospital, where many people were walking and playing.

They spent two cents to buy four popsicles. She Ning and the others each took one and ate it. On such a hot day, taking a couple of bites made them feel cool and refreshed. Without the technology and hard work of later generations, the popsicles melted into sugary water in their mouths, which was delicious, not greasy, and refreshingly sweet. The heat of early summer disappeared instantly.

She Ni's teeth haven't fully grown in yet, so she can only lick them to eat. To prevent this from harming her teeth, She Ning told her to put the popsicle in the glass bottle she used to hold water before leaving the house, and wait for it to melt before drinking it.

Big cities are big cities indeed; the streets are bustling and prosperous, and the prices of goods are much cheaper than in towns. As they strolled around, their hands filled with things.

When Zhu Xiujin returned, several bags of things were already piled up at their feet. After helping to load the things onto the car, Zhu Xiujin first drove She Ning to a guesthouse near the No. 1 Middle School in the city, and then took She Hongmei and the others back to Xiahe Village.

"Ah Ning, how about I stay here with you today?" Sitting in the back seat, She Hongmei said to She Ning in the passenger seat.

After much thought, she was still worried about leaving She Ning alone in this unfamiliar city for a night and a day.

"Mom, the No. 1 Middle School and the police station are near the guesthouse, so no one will dare to cause trouble. I'll lock my room after checking in and not come out. Director Xia will come to meet me first thing tomorrow morning, so it'll be fine."

She Ning turned her head from the passenger seat to comfort her, and seeing that She Hongmei was still worried, she smiled.

“Our city has pretty good public security. If anything happens, I’ll just go to the police station and ask the police officer for help.”

"Mom, you know how fast I run," She Ning said playfully.

Recalling how fast She Ning ran every day, disappearing in a flash, she nodded involuntarily. It was indeed very fast, but bad guys don't try to outrun you. They work together to block the road, so running fast is useless.

“But…” She Hongmei wanted to say something more.

"Mom, it's okay. Even if things get really bad, your daughter is pretty good at fighting. Don't you remember? Sister Shengnan taught me self-defense techniques, and she said I'm good at them."

In the driver's seat, Zhu Xiujin glanced at She Ning out of the corner of his eye upon hearing this, his eyes full of admiration. He had the right to speak on this; he still vividly remembered the little girl beating up the thief and executing a swift over-the-shoulder throw. Her skills were indeed quite impressive.

“Alright.” She Hongmei remained silent. She Ning’s words made some sense, but she was still worried.

She only felt relieved when the car arrived near the guesthouse and she saw a familiar person waiting at the entrance.

"A-Ning, over here."

After arriving early, checking into her room, and settling in, Director Xia came down to the guesthouse lobby to wait. When she saw a car approaching from afar, she came out and stood at the entrance.

Upon seeing She Ning sitting in the passenger seat, she waved to her.

After the car came to a stop, She Ning opened the door and got out, then jogged over.

"Director Xia, what brings you here? Weren't you supposed to be leaving tomorrow?" Looking up at Director Xia, She Ning asked in confusion.

"I've thought about it and I still can't let you stay here alone for one night." Xia Qiuxia patted She Ning's head with concern.

She called She Ning in the morning, and the shopkeeper said that the She family had left by car early in the morning and seemed to have arrived in the city.

Remembering what She Ning had said about staying overnight in the city, she explained the situation to the principal and her family, then packed her things and came to the city.

"How did you know I lived here, Director?" She Ning asked, puzzled.

She Ning remembered that she hadn't told anyone where she was going to stay in the city.

"There's only one guesthouse near the No. 1 Middle School. If you're not staying here, do you have any other options?" Director Xia poked She Ning's forehead, wondering how someone as smart as her could ask such a question.

"It was indeed a silly question," She Ning said, her face slightly flushed with embarrassment. Then, she playfully joked.

"What if I stay at a relative's house?"

"You came all this way for nothing?"

“That’s fine too. I’ll feel at ease knowing that my relatives are looking after me. If I can’t wait for you, I’ll just stay alone for one night at most.” Director Xia replied with a smile, patting her head.

She wouldn't tell She Ning that if she still hadn't seen him by nightfall, she would call back to ask She Hongmei if She Ning was staying at a relative's house or somewhere else.

In any case, we must make sure she is safe.

In the car, She Hongmei told She Ni and her grandmother to stay in the car and then she pushed open the door and got out.

Upon arriving at the two, She Hongmei greeted Xia Qiuxia. She Ning had left early because of her own reasons. Director Xia could have arrived tomorrow, but she arrived a day early for She Ning and even paid for her own accommodation at the guesthouse.

"Director Xia, thank you for your hard work." Stepping forward and shaking her hand, She Hongmei sincerely expressed her gratitude.

"It's alright. She Ning brought honor to the school this time. As the school's director, it's what I should do," Xia Qiuxia said, shaking She Hongmei's hand in return.

She Hongmei knew that she said that to comfort her, so she didn't say anything more, and the two chatted for a while longer.

As the sun gradually set, Xia Qiuxia glanced at the sky.

Although She Hongmei and the others drove back, the journey was still quite long, and if they didn't hurry, it would get dark soon.

"It's getting late, you should go back. Don't worry, I'll stay here with Aning." Understanding her concerns, Director Xia gently patted the back of She Hongmei's hand to comfort her.

"Okay, okay, thank you for your help. Let's chat again another time." She Hongmei said with a smile, then she turned around and went back to the back seat, opened the car door and put out some of the food she had just bought while shopping. She handed a bag of food to She Ning.

"Eat if you're hungry or thirsty tonight, don't go hungry. We're leaving now," she instructed.

After getting into the car, She Hongmei opened the window, and She Ni leaned against the window, saying, "Sister, good luck! We'll be waiting for you to come home tomorrow."

"Okay, go back now." She Ning waved with a smile. "I'll go back tomorrow."

"Brother Xiujin, thank you for your help." Standing on the side of the car, She Ning looked at the person in the driver's seat and said.

Inside the car, Zhu Xiujin rolled down the window, his eyes brimming with laughter: "Let's go, Xiao Aning. I wish you a successful start and great results tomorrow."

"Thank you for your kind words." She Ning smiled and replied, her eyes crinkling slightly, while taking two steps back to make room for the car.

Zhu Xiujin nodded to her, then moved his hand on the steering wheel, turned the car around, and made a U-turn.

She Ning and Xia Qiuxia stood there until the car's taillights were out of sight before they turned and went back into the guesthouse.
