"Are you dissatisfied with me?"
"No," Chen Ya turned around, "I thought I would be dissatisfied with you, but unexpectedly, I am very satisfied with you now."
"Why should I be satisfied? I didn't do anything..." Liu Ruyan was a little confused.
Chen Ya ignored her, reached out and took off his sweatshirt.
Liu Ruyan rubbed her eyes, trying to see clearly, but the sweatshirt was thrown at her, covering her head and face.
"Please throw it into the washing machine for me."
The girl was frightened by the slight smell of male sweat mixed with laundry detergent. When she frantically pulled off her clothes, Chen Ya had already entered the room.
…
There was a young girl peeking into the vegetable market.
Liu Ruyan had never seen such a place before. The sunlight penetrated the blue awning, casting mottled light and shadows on the ground. The various stalls formed a series of narrow paths that were only wide enough for people to walk sideways. The market was bustling with people, making a deafening noise.
She needed to follow Chen Ya closely so as not to be left behind by his fast pace.
He walked leisurely and casually on the bustling street, as if he were a fortune teller who had already predicted which of the chaotic stalls had the unique ingredients he needed, and all he needed to do was go straight to his goal.
He twisted and turned, dodged sideways, and flew freely in the dark like a bat, never colliding with anything. She followed him breathlessly, confronting the oncoming aunt from time to time, and having her clothes caught by the cucumbers that had run half out of the stall.
The smell in the air was definitely not pleasant. The peeled fruits and vegetables were slowly but surely rotting, creating the underlying aroma that floated in the market.
The faint smell emanating from the roots of the feathers of live chickens and ducks is like the smell of oil floating on noodle soup, small but noticeable. Various meats and blood exude a fishy odor like rust;
Grass carp flicked their tails in the foam tank, splashing water onto her cheeks. The fishy smell of the fish scales was somewhat similar to the scent of kelp wafting from afar.
The waterlogged greens, rotten tomatoes, and potatoes covered in dirt exude the scent of green grass after the rain; a whole woven bag filled with star anise, cinnamon in a plastic basket, and slightly bitter spice powder mixed into a salty fragrance similar to that of traditional Chinese medicine.
The aunts and uncles negotiated with great energy, a terrifyingly large bone-chopping knife landed on the chopping block with a thud, the scotch tape was ripped apart with a rip, potatoes tumbled to the floor, hens clucked incomprehensibly with their black eyes, and the sound of stomping feet drifted to the awning and bounced back, becoming a sharp and strangely off-key tune...
All these smells and sounds intertwined together, making Liu Ruyan's head dizzy.
"It's the same as before. I'll only demonstrate it once." After Chen Ya finished speaking, he began to talk to an old woman selling vegetables in an extremely fast tone.
Liu Ruyan stood aside with a gentle smile on her face, nodding slightly as if she understood.
She didn't know whether her behavior was appropriate, but she always behaved like this when her parents introduced her to the CEO of a prominent family or a company, as well as other people whose backgrounds sounded impressive.
She had no idea how she would score in the eyes of the old lady who bought the loofah. However, many people she saw on TV said that she was graceful, well-mannered, and a lady from a noble family.
But Chen Ya was chatting intensively with the vegetable vendors, and she couldn't find a chance to squeeze in, so she could only maintain this attitude.
She decided to wait until she left the vegetable market and then ask Chen Ya how many points she would get for her performance, out of 100.
She walked out of the vegetable market in a daze. Chen Ya asked her, "Have you learned to bargain?" She then realized that Chen Ya was just doing the same bargaining that she had heard about.
Seeing Liu Ruyan shaking her head blankly, he tapped her forehead:
"You were standing next to me like an idiot. I thought you were studying hard."
As a result, she couldn't even ask herself how many points she could get. She covered her forehead and thought for herself:
"I don't understand what you're saying."
"Are you a local?" Chen Ya muttered, passing a plastic bag to her. "Carry this."
Liu Ruyan noticed that Chen Ya specially picked the smallest one out of the three bags for her.
However, within three minutes after she took it, she still felt pain in her palm.
This made her very upset.
"Aren't we going home?" She noticed that they were not returning along the same route.
"I'm going to buy you some clothes. It's over there in the alley at Qianmen." Chen Ya freed up one hand and pointed in a direction.
Qianmen Alley is another magical place. The colors here are darker than the vegetable market just now, but the sanitary conditions are much better, at least there is no strange smell.
The place is densely packed with tiny shops, each dedicated to clothing. Some sell men's clothing, some sell women's clothing. The densely packed clothes are sometimes hung in mid-air, while others are piled in frames at the door like a Jingguan, forming a small mountain.
A layer of mist hung in the air. Upon closer inspection, Liu Ruyan realized it was steam from the garment steamer. She struggled to carry the plastic bag, her palms probably bleeding from the squeeze. But seeing Chen Ya's relaxed expression, she couldn't bring herself to ask for help.
Standing at a crossroads, Chen Ya pondered for a moment and then asked her, "Can you pick clothes?"
Liu Ruyan shook her head.
"You never buy clothes yourself?"
Liu Ruyan glanced at her clothes and said, "This is the only set I picked out myself."
