Chapter 3 Prices in the Wasteland

Qin Yiyi strolled around the market and found that the prices of machinery and grains were generally very high.

Sid shook his chains, and the three slaves behind him each carried more than thirty pounds of rice and walked forward.

The deer was very unhappy and started yelling.

"Why should I carry an extra pound? Aren't deer antlers' lives important too?!"

Qin Yiyi gave Lu Jiao a death stare.

"Who gave you permission to secretly hide Imperial Coins?"

The antlers cried out in protest: "It's all that wretched eagle-beastman Sid's fault! When he was shaking, this Imperial coin got stuck in my antlers!"

"My lord, you are wise enough to see the truth!"

The deer antlers cried and sobbed, but Qin Yiyi completely ignored them.

The ox-headed and horse-faced demons behind them felt that they had taken one less pound of rice, which made them feel superior to the deer antlers, and they were very proud of themselves.

Qin Yiyi observed her surroundings and found that she hadn't seen a single pure-blooded beastman in the three markets she had passed. Most of them were half-beastmen and beastmen, and after the beast and human combined, their bodies became stronger and their strength became enormous. Even their height was generally 1.89 meters, with the stronger ones like Sid being around 2 meters tall. Some people who had fused with some special bloodlines were even 3 meters tall.

The pure-blooded orcs at the top of the food chain are able to freely change their orcish features, while half-orcs are those whose orcish physiques are inflexible and can only be exposed.

Pure-blooded humans, who are the weakest and can only survive by eating low-pollution or zero-pollution food, are at the bottom of the food chain. No one would like such people, who are both weak and gluttonous.

cluck cluck~

Qin Yiyi clutched her stomach. Another point to consider was that pure-blooded humans get hungry quickly and need to eat three meals a day, which is incomparable to orcs and half-orcs who only eat one meal a day.

She wandered around and bought rice and some seaweed. This stuff wasn't filling and was very expensive, costing her a full two gold coins.

However, she bought it for another purpose!

In the wasteland, an egg costs 100 copper coins, and a silver coin can only buy ten eggs. These prices really pained her.

Finally, I bought some carrots and vegetables, which cost me one gold coin.

This means that it cost her more than one gold coin to make a simple seaweed rice roll, not even counting the rice.

The cost of cooking is calculated using the price of gold coins!

As expected, only nobles can afford zero-pollution food. As a young lady in the Earl's mansion, she only knew how to eat and had no idea that what she was eating was not food, but money!

Pure, hard-earned money!

No wonder her parents and siblings went to the battlefield so frequently to raise her!

An honest earl's family wouldn't normally have much money from military merits, and her parents not only had to support her but also help other wounded soldiers' families who had lost their source of income, so they had even less money!

The only saving grace was that her family had a large tract of land that could be used to grow crops. She couldn't help but fall into deep thought. It seemed that this group of people were not after the Earl's estate, but rather the Earl's land!

A common man is innocent, but possessing a treasure is a crime.

Her parents and siblings had not returned from the battlefield for three whole years, indicating that their chances of survival were slim, which is why these people came up with this idea!

But now that she has taken over this body, she naturally wants to take all these things back! Especially that large piece of ancestral land!

But now…

cluck cluck~

Okay, let's solve my hunger problem first. She originally planned to get some cheap seaweed rice rolls, but now it seems that seaweed rice rolls aren't cheap at all, no, nothing is cheap!

With one-tenth of her gold coins already gone, she reluctantly took out another coin to buy a dilapidated old car to return to her territory.

She glared fiercely at the three slaves. If it weren't for these three people, she would have had Sid grab her hand and fly back!

The three orcs huddled together tightly; this young lady in the count's manor was truly terrifying.

Looking at this old car, covered in dust, it looks just like a seventy-year-old man still working.

"Can it work?" Qin Yiyi asked, looking at Xide.

"No problem, young lady. This is a car from the largest store in Chaotic Territory. It's very reliable. It's a chain store with after-sales service, unlike other small shops that only do one-off sales!"

With a skeptical attitude, Qin Yiyi sat in the passenger seat, while the three orcs sat in the back.

Fortunately, it was a modified vintage car, taking into full account the orcs' physiques.

The old, dilapidated car drove out of Chaos Territory. Less than half an hour later, a thick sandstorm swept in. Sid looked into the distance and frowned, saying, "The Misty City has spread again. We have to hurry back to our territory!"

They were tricked into coming to this remote area. Sid had planned to take the young lady back to the main city, but the main city was not peaceful either. He had promised the general to take good care of the young lady, so it was better to stay here to avoid the eye of the storm.

Inside the territory, a few sparse, emaciated villagers were outside collecting dried salted fish. Upon seeing the lord return, they all rushed back into their houses and refused to come out again.

Qin Yiyi touched her face. Was she really that scary?

"The tax is due in three days, so of course everyone will be avoiding the lord!" Deer Antlers put down his thirty-four pounds of rice.

Ox-Head and Horse-Face also put down the rice they had just taken out of the cart.

"People in the wasteland hate lords! Because lords endlessly increase taxes!"

Snap snap snap~

Each of the three men was hit with a stick by the black bread.

"Slandering the lord behind his back deserves a beating!"

The three orcs glared at each other angrily: "Damn it! You don't hit a person on the head!"

"Damn it, it hit my horn!"
