Chapter 27

Jiang Rao ran away secretly.

She dreamed at night that Rong Ting was sick.

His tall body, from head to toe, was curled up in the quilt, shivering and shivering like a small animal trapped in the snow.

How did you become so sick?

In the middle of the night, she woke up.

After waking up, she called Ming Shao and Jiang Ping, who was skilled in martial arts, to sneak out of the yard with her.

When it comes to climbing over the wall, it’s a once, twice, a second, a second.

She walked up the stone steps and slowly climbed over the low wall at the backyard of the Jiang Mansion.

When he arrived at the west of the city, he knocked on his door no matter how hard he tried but failed. So he climbed over the wall and went in alone, leaving Ming Shao and Jiang Ping to guard outside.

As I rode on the wall, I kept worrying that he might be so sick that he passed out and couldn't even hear the knock on the door.

Jiang Rao was panting and knocked on the door hard, but no one answered. She was sweating more than she did from climbing over the wall just now.

She raised her voice and shouted again.

"Brother Ting, are you awake? Are you okay?"

If no one responds, she will break in.

"Wait a minute." A dull voice finally came from the room.

Jiang Rao's nervousness dissipated a lot, and she waited for Rong Ting to open the door for her. After waiting for a while, she only heard the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground from inside. She was so anxious that she didn't care about anything else, and raised her hand to push the door and went in.

It was a little difficult to see things in the darkness, but I could vaguely see that the room was in a mess.

The furnishings were all over the place, and the room was filled with a strong smell of herbs, which made Jiang Rao very uneasy.

Where is Rong Ting?

She subconsciously walked towards the bed, but almost tripped.

Looking down, I saw a figure lying on the ground.

Rong Ting?

Why did he fall here?

Jiang Rao opened her eyes, trying to see more clearly.

Just as he saw it a little more clearly, he cried out "Ah" and covered his eyes.

She turned away, blushing deeply.

"Why are you not wearing any clothes?" Her voice was shaking, her palms pressed against her eyelids.

A voice came from behind, "I'm taking a shower."

The cold wind blew in from outside, causing a layer of goosebumps on Rong Ting's wet skin.

He didn't want her to see him like this.

"Niannian." His low voice sounded like a sigh, with a hint of blame in his helplessness, "I didn't let you in."

"I-I didn't mean it."

Jiang Rao was so flustered that she hardly knew what to say.

In fact, she had seen his body. In her dream, when he was bathing, he asked her to watch him. She would definitely not take the initiative to peek, but when she helped him out, she would inevitably glance at the skin that was not covered by his thin shirt - his chest, or his ankles that were shriveled and deformed, and looked ugly because he had not walked for many years.

But after all, the feeling in dreams is different from what you actually see.

Inappropriately, her mind replayed the scene she had just seen in the darkness.

The boy's naked back could not be seen clearly in the night. Although it was not as broad as his later back, only a thin and tough outline could be vaguely seen. However, he was not as weak as she had thought, just skin and bones.

"Then I'll go out now." This thought made her cheeks even hotter, and they turned red from head to tail like a cooked shrimp.

She couldn't think about it anymore, she had to try to think of something ugly to dispel the inappropriate images in her mind.

So she thought about the weird things she had embroidered and walked out.

But just as his toes left the ground, his other foot seemed to be hooked by something, and his center of gravity was unstable, and his body fell backwards.

He slipped along the wet ground and fell into a cool embrace.

I only heard a muffled groan in my ear.

Although Rong Ting had the strength to stretch his legs, he got punished when he actually hooked the person into his arms.

The veins on his forehead were faintly visible, and his leg, which was hit, was painful.

Hearing the muffled groan of pain, Jiang Rao immediately climbed up from his legs.

She wanted to see what she had done to him, but when her eyes met his, she remembered him naked, covering his eyes, and about to cry because of the hardships of life.

"Don't go." Rong Ting coughed twice, "Give me the cloth on the bedside table and some clothes."

He chuckled helplessly, "You can't let me stay naked forever."

Jiang Rao's face was red as if it was about to drip. She said "Oh" and groped her way to the bed in the dark. She took the clothes he wanted and groped two steps in his direction. Then she turned her back to him and said, "Clothes, here you go."

Then he stood there uncomfortably, not knowing whether to leave or not, with his ten fingers twisted together awkwardly.

"Did you fall in the bathtub? Why is there water all around?" She raised her voice as loudly as possible, trying to cover up the rustling sounds of people changing clothes behind her.

It also covered up her embarrassment and awkwardness.

"Yeah." Rong Ting said lightly, raised his eyes and glanced at the back of her red neck.

He didn't mention his previous embarrassment, but asked, "Are you hot?"

His head was dizzy and his voice was much weaker without any disguise, and he sounded very ill.

Jiang Rao thought he

This was a hint to her that he felt a little cold, so she immediately went to close the door.

The cold wind was kept outside, and the room became much quieter.

She came back to help him, and helped him all the way to the bed, pulling the quilt over his legs, her movements careful and gentle.

Rong Ting's eyes darkened a little.

She had seen almost all of his most embarrassing looks.

My throat felt a little dry. "Why did you come here at this time?"

Jiang Rao squatted on the ground, groping around in front of the wooden table with candles, looking for flint and new candles. She turned her back to him and said without turning her head, "Many people in the city have caught colds recently. Your leg injury hasn't healed yet, and you are weak and prone to illness. I couldn't sleep at night, so I wanted to come and see you."

Her words were half truth, but her worry was real.

Finally I found the flint and lit the candle wick, and the room became bright instantly.

Only then did she notice that Rong Ting's face was also red.

His originally pale cheeks had become a little redder. Normally, redness should be a healthy color, but the sickly look on his face was not reduced, but instead it was accentuated by the abnormal redness. He looked drowsy as if he was drunk, and his eyes looked as if he was drunk.

His heart skipped a beat, and he definitely had a cold.

Jiang Rao hurriedly walked out holding the candlestick. She had to call a doctor to see a doctor, but Rong Ting stopped her and said, "I have medicine here."

"In the drawer under the candlestick."

Jiang Rao followed his instructions and flipped through the medicine bag. "When did you buy the medicine?"

"I had a headache during the day, so I went to the old doctor to get some medicine."

Jiang Rao frowned when he heard this.

There was a hint of inexplicable anger and blame between her delicate eyebrows. "Why didn't you tell me you were sick? If you had told me earlier, I wouldn't have let you fall out of the barrel here alone."

Rong Ting's leg injury was a major concern for her.

His frail body was more important than her own.

Rong Ting smiled bitterly, "I can get through this alone."

He always got through every illness alone...

If you are hungry, just bear with it and it will pass. If you are cold, just hold on and it will pass. But if you are sick, your body will feel extremely uncomfortable, with no one to take care of you and no medicine to take, even death would be better than that.

His self-righteous attitude without telling her made Jiang Rao a little angry, but considering that he was a patient, she didn't argue with him, "I'll go boil some medicine for you."

She boiled the medicine, cleaned up the overturned wooden barrel in the room, and swept away the water on the floor.

She never does this at home.

When doing such chores, his movements are slow and he is very unfamiliar with them.

Rong Ting looked at her with a pair of slightly dazed eyes.

Because of the illness, his usual indifference and calmness disappeared, and his eyes were now obsessed and fragile.

I just realized that the reason why I felt so miserable when I was sick as a child was not because there was no medicine.

But at that time, everyone around him was hoping for his death, and no one was hoping for his well-being.

Jiang Rao cleaned up the mess in the room, came back, closed the door and windows, and handed him the medicine to drink, "There is no sugar, so just bear with it and drink the medicine."

Bitterness or sweetness makes no difference to Rong Ting.

He raised his chin and drank the medicine obediently. He drank whatever she gave him.

As he swallowed, the sharp Adam's apple in the center of his neck moved up and down.

The coat he was wearing was slightly loosened.

The exposed chest was covered with crisscrossing scars.

Jiang Rao turned his eyes away, but had already seen the injuries.

She knew that he also had several deep scars on the back of his neck and shoulders. She was afraid that even soldiers who had been on the battlefield did not have so many wounds. "Where did all those wounds of yours come from?"

When Rong Ting saw that he had his shirt open, she stopped looking at him and silently pulled the collar of her coat closer to the middle.

"I got injured while practicing martial arts."

There were wounds from being beaten by my nanny when I was a child. The queen wanted to use a whip to tame him into an obedient and opinionless dog.

But I don't want to tell her.

He can bear all these troubles by himself.

The effect of the medicine gradually took effect. Jiang Rao saw that Rong Ting's eyelids were visibly heavy, so she waited by the side, hoping that he would fall asleep so that she could sneak back.

But his eyes would only close for a short while before suddenly opening and staring at her for a while, and his eyelids would droop again due to the effect of the drug.

But soon, he would open his eyes and stare at her.

After going back and forth for a long time, Jiang Rao felt that this was not a solution. Thinking that maybe he would be able to sleep peacefully if she left, she said, "I'm leaving," and stood up to leave.

But someone grabbed my hand from behind, "Don't go."

His voice was like that of a child about to cry, and it sounded hot. "I feel bad."

Jiang Rao sat down again helplessly and tried to pull his hand out, but couldn't.

I had to wait until he was completely asleep, then pry open his fingers one by one before I could let go.

He held my hands so tightly that they hurt.

She rubbed her red fingers, and after she took her hand away, she saw him rubbing and moving his fingertips along the quilt as if he was looking for something, and she couldn't help laughing.

A sick person is really like a child. Why is he so uneasy?

But she couldn't stay here all night. She couldn't break the rules just because she was young and hadn't reached the age of marriage ceremony.

Coming here today was already an extremely extraordinary act. If her father knew about it, even if she said she was going to save someone, he would definitely be furious.

Stay one night? Forget the legs.

But he looked so pitiful. Looking at his sickly sleeping face, she even understood in an instant how her parents felt when she was sick as a child and stayed by her side all night.

I really don't want to leave until I see this poor little thing get better.

Do you want to change her legs?

Jiang Rao hesitated.

The hand that had been searching the quilt for a long time and found nothing suddenly stopped.

Its owner sat up and pried up his eyelids.

He looked around in panic.

His narrow eyes were narrowed, as if he was dreaming, and his gaze was blurry.

When he saw Jiang Rao, his eyes, which had been looking around, finally stopped.

As if confirming something, he leaned forward and pounced over.
