Chapter 52 Entering the City

Cheng Hao didn't have much money, so the gifts he bought were very cheap.

He went out on Christmas Eve and gave Arabella and Old George very simple gifts, just beautifully wrapped apples and gloves. As for Claude, he gave him an apple and sunglasses.

After Claude's sunglasses were broken by those kids, Cheng Hao took him to buy a new pair, and today he prepared another pair for him.

It didn't snow today, but the snow from the past few days was still on the roads and even frozen.

There was no one here to clear the snow, so the road became very difficult to walk on. Cheng Hao didn't even dare to run on the road, but walked forward carefully.

The street lights were bright, and warm lights shone through the windows of every household around. On this special day, even the sounds of cursing became less frequent.

However, as Cheng Hao was walking, he suddenly encountered a group of teenagers with guns. These people were wearing brand new clothes and were running past. They were not friendly at all when they saw Cheng Hao.

Fortunately, they didn't do anything to Cheng Hao.

It was around nine o'clock in the evening when Cheng Hao arrived at Old George's place.

Old George and the others were still awake. When they heard Cheng Hao's voice, Arabella opened the door.

The ring where Cheng Hao and Claude usually fight is now decorated with a decorated Christmas tree. The house is also decorated with ribbons and balloons, making it very beautiful. Cheng Hao even feels a little unfamiliar.

"Cheng, I didn't expect you to come." Arabella was a little surprised.

Old George glanced at Cheng Hao and said with a rare smile: "Come and warm yourself by the fire and have something to eat."

As for Claude, he was even more excited when he saw Cheng Hao. He rushed over and wanted to hug Cheng Hao: "Cheng!"

"I don't like hugs, Claude." Cheng Hao stopped him. He had no interest in being hugged by a man.

Claude could only put down his hand pitifully.

"George, Arabella, Claude, I'm here to give you gifts. Merry Christmas." Cheng Hao gave them the gifts: "Of course, this is just a small thing."

He also thought about giving expensive gifts, but firstly, he had no money, and secondly... Old George and Arabella also had money.

"Thank you." Arabella was surprised, and even old George was happy.

Cheng Hao stayed with them for an hour, and left at eleven o'clock.

Old George and Arabella did not keep him because they knew that even if they did, Cheng Hao would leave.

When Cheng Hao returned home, it was almost twelve o'clock, but Lin Yuxun and Danny were not asleep yet. However, when he came back, they went to sleep too.

Cheng Hao followed him into bed and put an alarm clock under his quilt.

At three o'clock in the morning, the alarm clock in his quilt rang.

The sound of the alarm clock was blocked by the quilt, and the people in the next room would never hear it, but Cheng Hao woke up. He got up quietly, went into Lin Yuxun and Danny's room, and hung two socks filled with gifts on their bedside.

He prepared a set of paintbrushes and an apple for Danny, and a pen and an apple for Lin Yuxun.

After giving the gifts, Cheng Hao went back to sleep.

The next day, he was woken up by Danny's screams.

Danny usually doesn't make any sound, but it's not like he can't make any sound. However, making a sound like this...is he frightened or something?

Cheng Hao got up and looked over, only to find Danny holding socks with a look of surprise on his face.

Lin Yuxun had also been woken up. He was also holding his socks, his eyes red.

Cheng Hao laughed: "Santa Claus gave you gifts."

Of course Lin Yuxun knew that this was not a gift from Santa Claus, it was clearly a gift from Cheng Hao!

But Danny believed it. Even though he couldn't hear what Cheng Hao said, he was so happy that he even got up and wrote the words "Thank you Santa Claus" on a piece of paper.

In the years before, Danny had actually been living in a daze.

His mother didn't teach him anything. Later, Lin Yuxun appeared. Although he had some interactions with him, Lin Yuxun was not only taciturn, but also had to study and find ways to make money... He and Danny had very little communication.

It wasn't until Cheng Hao appeared that Danny finally came into contact with the outside world.

Even though Danny is nine years old, his knowledge is actually not as much as that of a four or five-year-old child, and his understanding of the world is not deep.

Cheng Hao showed him a picture book about Santa Claus a few days ago, and he believed that there was Santa Claus in this world.

As for why Santa Claus didn’t come before... he had never experienced Christmas before, and... the house he lived in before didn’t have a chimney.

Danny was so happy that he even kept screaming while holding the Santa Claus picture book.

Lin Yuxun looked at his brother with a smile, then hugged his sock tightly.

Today is the real Christmas.

Cheng Hao and Lin Yuxun actually didn’t know how to spend Christmas, and didn’t want to participate in neighborhood activities, so they simply stayed at home that day.

Tomorrow, Lin Yuxun will leave.

There are many days off here during Christmas, and the school is the same. This means that Shi Wenzhen has holidays during these days. If Lin Yuxun goes there at this time, he can settle down with the help of Shi Wenzhen.

If he went late, Shi Wenzheng would be busy studying.

On Christmas Day, everyone on the street had smiles on their faces and most people were happy, but the police still took away two bodies.

Cheng Hao heard someone talk about one of them, who froze to death after falling asleep outside after getting drunk.

That afternoon, Cheng Hao packed Lin Yuxun's things, and early the next morning, he and Danny sent Lin Yuxun to the train.

Then, Cheng Hao took Danny to Old George.

"You must have a lot of stuff. I'll drive and help you move it." Old George said to Cheng Hao.

"No need, Old George. The roads outside are icy now. It's dangerous to drive!" Cheng Hao said.

Old George was a little helpless: "You really don't act like a teenager. The teenagers I knocked down before were always eager to drive my car."

Cheng Hao smiled and didn't say anything. He ran back and forth several times that day, moving all of his, Lin Yuxun's, and Danny's belongings from the rented house to Old George's place.

There were many of Lin Yuxun's old things in it. Looking at the tattered things, Old George said, "These are already garbage. Aren't you going to throw them away?"

Cheng Hao smiled and said, "It's full of memories." He had thrown away everything that needed to be thrown away, and these things could actually still be used.

For example, the quilt, although a bit old, is still usable, and Lin Yuxun had just washed it a few days ago.

If he doesn't bring it...will Old George still give them new quilts?

Old George fell silent. He knew Cheng Hao and his family had lived in poverty before, but now he realized how poor they were. They even sewed a piece of clothing on the torn quilt...

But Old George didn't say much. He stood up and said, "I'll take you to your room."

The building has three floors and six bedrooms.

Old George and Arabella both lived in the bedrooms on the second floor. Now, he took Cheng Hao and Danny to the third floor and gave Cheng Hao a large south-facing bedroom.

This bedroom even has a bathroom.

"Danny is still young, so he can live with you. When he grows up, he can have his own room." Old George said, and then muttered, "He may not live here in the future..."

"Thank you, George." Cheng Hao said gratefully.

When Cheng Hao settled down at Old George's place, Lin Yuxun had just gotten off the train.

He was carrying two large bags filled with his clothes, a quilt, and some books.

The books were very heavy, and Cheng Hao wanted him to mail them, but the mailing fee was very expensive, so he brought them with him. He also didn't bring some of the books he had already read.

This was Lin Yuxun’s first time taking a train alone. He was a little scared at first, but when he thought of Cheng Hao, he was no longer afraid.

He followed the crowd out of the train station and boarded a bus.

It is still the Christmas holiday and the city is very lively. People who are usually busy with work are taking to the streets to shop. Lin Yuxun looked at the prosperous scene on the roadside and felt a little scared at first. Then the fear disappeared little by little, and he just missed Cheng Hao very much.

When Lin Yuxun arrived at the school, it was already dark. He found Shi Wenzhen's residence according to the address and knocked on the door.

Shi Wenzheng quickly came to open the door and was extremely surprised to see Lin Yuxun: "You're coming today? Why didn't you tell me? I could pick you up."

"That's too troublesome. I can do it alone." Lin Yuxun said.

Shi Wenzhen is actually not young anymore. Most of the students in his group are quite old. Some of them have even been working before coming to study abroad. He is the youngest among them, at only 26 years old.

Lin Yuxun was ten years younger than him. He looked at Lin Yuxun as if he were a child: "We are both Chinese. We should help each other. Nothing is too much trouble."

As Shi Wenzheng spoke, she began to help Lin Yuxun pack his things.

Before Lin Yuxun came, he bought a folding bed and placed it in his apartment, intending for Lin Yuxun to live in. It was quite quick to pack it up now.

While cleaning up, he was talking to Lin Yuxun.

He had communicated a lot with Lin Yuxun through letters before, but the letter paper was not enough to write down everything. Now he had the opportunity to communicate with Lin Yuxun properly.

Shi Wenzhen speaks Chinese and he likes to communicate in Chinese.

Lin Yuxun has almost learned everything from Cheng Hao and can even speak to him in Chinese.

Shi Wenzheng soon discovered that Lin Yuxun knew a lot of things, but there were also many things he didn't know. He specifically asked about Lin Yuxun's family situation and learned that they had been living in a slum community.

"We are living a good life now. In the past, we had to deliver milk and mop floors for people to earn money for rent and food, but now Cheng Hao earns more by boxing with others." Lin Yuxun smiled slightly.

Shi Wenzheng felt bad when he heard Lin Yuxun's words... He patted Lin Yuxun on the shoulder and said, "Study hard. When you get into college and graduate, you'll be able to find a good job! Then your brother won't have to fight anymore!"

"Yes." Lin Yuxun nodded firmly.

Going out to eat on a day like this was very expensive. To save money, Shi Wenzheng had stockpiled some food in the refrigerator. She took it out now, heated it up, and gave it to Lin Yuxun to eat. "You can live with me from now on. When school starts, I'll find a way to help you apply for a school."

"Thank you." Lin Yuxun looked at him gratefully: "I will be responsible for our meals from now on."

"Need not……"

"Just consider it as me paying your rent." Lin Yuxun said.

"Okay." Shi Wenzheng chuckled. "The cafeteria is over there. They have different set meals every day. We can just have the set meal."
