Chapter 10 Genius

Cheng Hao felt relieved when he heard that Lin Yuxun agreed to let him stay.

Now that he had a place to live and could eat at school, he was temporarily settled.

Once he gets used to his new body and goes to the bar to fight, he will have money in his hands, and his life will definitely get better and better.

Cheng Hao was full of hope for the future, and then his stomach rumbled.

Cheng Hao: “…”

Danny was unaware of anything, and Lin Yuxun said, "Let's eat, I'll go buy some bread." He was in a hurry to get home today and even forgot to buy some food!

Cheng Hao said, "No, there are sandwiches and milk."

Lin Yuxun still remembered the sandwiches Cheng Hao brought back, but he hesitated: "Those sandwiches...are they enough for you?"

"Enough." Cheng Hao said. He must have eaten a lot yesterday because he was seriously injured. Now he is much better and can control himself to eat less.

"And tomorrow morning..." Lin Yuxun was still very worried.

Cheng Hao said, "Leave some for Danny, we can eat at school."

This is also possible, Lin Yuxun no longer insisted on buying food.

They still had four and a half sausage sandwiches left.

This kind of sandwich is quite big. An average adult would be full after eating one, so Danny only ate half of it at noon.

Lin Yuxun gave the three remaining sandwiches to Cheng Hao: "You eat it."

"Two is enough for me." Cheng Hao said. Although Lin Yuxun is thin, he is at the age of growing up. Judging from his appetite in the morning and at noon, he can definitely eat one sandwich now. Danny also needs at least one sandwich tonight and tomorrow morning. He can eat two and a half at most.

To be safe, he just ate two.

Lin Yuxun wanted to say something, but Cheng Hao said, "I'll get a stomachache if I eat too much."

Since Cheng Hao said so, Lin Yuxun didn't ask any more questions.

The sandwich tasted okay, at least the bread on the outside was soft, but the sausage in the middle was cut very thinly and there was very little of it.

Cheng Hao ate two sandwiches in a few bites and drank two cartons of milk. He finally felt better in his stomach. At this time, Lin Yuxun and Danny had not finished eating yet.

Before, when Chester ate a sandwich, he would only eat the sausage inside. But Lin Yuxun did the opposite. He ate the bread on the outside and left the sausage in the middle, and finally gave it to Danny.

Just as Danny was about to take it, Cheng Hao picked Danny up, put him on his own little slippers, and stuffed a paper airplane into his hand.

Danny was full after eating half a sandwich. Now that he had something to play with, he forgot about the sausage Lin Yuxun was going to give him and went to play with the paper airplane, leaving Lin Yuxun holding the sausage in his hand, a little at a loss.

Cheng Hao said: "You are so thin, you should eat more meat, and you should eat the sausage yourself." It is right to give children good food, but you should not withhold your own food to give children good food, as this will spoil the children.

What's more, Lin Yuxun himself is still young!

Lin Yuxun said: "I don't like eating meat..."

"Weren't you very happy eating bacon at noon?" Cheng Hao said. There was a little bit of bacon in the lunch today. Lin Yuxun also saved it for last, but he was obviously very happy eating it and he liked it.

Lin Yuxun glanced at Cheng Hao, lowered his head and took a bite of sausage.

Cheng Hao said: "I will find a job, and when I have money, I will buy you delicious food." Whether it is Lin Yuxun or Danny, they should eat more fruits and vegetables, so that they can have a balanced nutrition. As for meat, it is best to eat fresh meat instead of sausages and bacon.

It's a pity that he is too poor now.

"I don't need to eat well either." Lin Yuxun said, looking at Cheng Hao happily.

Cheng Hao smiled at him and went to watch Danny play again, while trying to repair the rolling door - it was dinner time and everyone was still awake, so making some noise would not disturb others.

It’s just that it’s not easy to repair this rolling door…

While Cheng Hao was praising Danny and fixing the door, Lin Yuxun was tidying up the room.

His room was a mess, with a lot of messy things. In the past, he was always tired when he came home and had no energy to tidy it up, but today he had the energy.

Seeing this, Cheng Hao asked, "Lin Yuxun, don't you have to do your homework? By the way, why didn't you bring your books to school today?" Today, Lin Yuxun didn't have any books in his hands whether he was going to school or coming home from school.

Lin Yuxun was stunned and said, "The teacher didn't assign any homework, and there are no books."

"So that's how it is." Cheng Hao said. The education in the poor public schools in the United States is really too casual. There aren't even any books...

It is really worrying to know that Lin Yuxun is studying in such a school.

If possible, it would be best to change Lin Yuxun's school.

Seeing that Cheng Hao didn't intend to ask any more questions, Lin Yuxun felt relieved.

However, Cheng Hao did not ask much about studying, but said to Lin Yuxun: "How about this, since you are free in the evening, learn Chinese with me."

Although Chinese is not very useful at this stage, it will definitely be very useful in the future. His country will develop rapidly in the coming time!

Besides, Lin Yuxun is still young, it would be good for him to learn more knowledge!

More importantly, although Lin Yuxun has not received Chinese education, he can speak Chinese, so it will not be too difficult for him to learn.

"Do you speak Chinese?" Lin Yu asked.

"I can," Cheng Hao said. He knew authentic Chinese and could write simplified characters! He even learned traditional characters through Cheng Jinhao's memory!

Well, the latter was something he learned from memory, and he needed to consolidate it before he could fully master it.

"Why...are you here?" Lin Yuxun asked. Why would a person who knows Chinese, speaks English very well, and looks well-educated, come here?

"Something happened at home." Cheng Hao said, "I'm homeless now."

When asked about Cheng Hao's sad story, Lin Yuxun felt a little uneasy: "You... don't be sad, you can live with me."

"Thank you!" Cheng Hao said with a smile.

Lin Yuxun lowered his head embarrassedly.

Cheng Hao said he wanted to teach Lin Yuxun Chinese and started teaching him right away.

Lin Yuxun spoke a northern dialect, which was similar in pronunciation to Mandarin, but not exactly the same. Cheng Hao spoke to him in Mandarin, asked him to correct his pronunciation, and even wrote down the simplified and traditional Chinese characters for "Lin Yuxun" with the correct strokes. After he said he wanted to teach Lin Yuxun how to read, Lin Yuxun found a poster for him.

One side of the poster was colorful, while the other side was white. Although there was some dried glue around it, it did not prevent him from writing in the middle with a ballpoint pen.

"The two characters '林' and '虞' are written the same way in both simplified and traditional Chinese, but '寻' is written differently... You should learn simplified Chinese. I think everyone will use simplified Chinese in the future," said Cheng Hao.

Lin Yuxun had never heard of simplified Chinese characters before, but after Cheng Hao said that, he decided to learn them in the future.

He only watched Cheng Hao write it once, and then wrote his own name.

Cheng Hao said: "You are so smart!"

When Lin Yuxun lived with his father, his father never praised him. Later, when he lived with his mother, his mother only scolded him.

Now that he was suddenly praised for his intelligence, he felt extremely happy. The bitterness he had felt when he saw Cheng Hao praising Danny before disappeared, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curl up, revealing a small smile.

It was the first time Cheng Hao saw Lin Yuxun smile, and he said, "You look so beautiful when you smile."

Lin Yuxun subconsciously retracted his smile, and after thinking about it, he smiled even wider. This big smile, because it was deliberately made, seemed a little stiff.

But Cheng Hao still smiled and praised him: "Your teeth are so beautiful."

Lin Yuxun began to wonder whether he should buy toothpaste and toothbrush. He had saved money to buy them before, but he was short of money after his mother passed away and had no money to buy them.

Cheng Hao didn't know what Lin Yuxun was thinking. After praising him, he wrote his own name for Lin Yuxun to see.

Lin Yuxun wrote it down again.

Lin Yuxun actually watched him write it once and then wrote it down word for word!

Cheng Hao felt that Lin Yuxun was really smart, and he became more determined to teach Lin Yuxun Chinese.

When he was in elementary school, he started learning pinyin. But now he can type in pinyin, but he may not be able to pronounce the pinyin correctly when he really wants to read it, and he has almost forgotten the initials and finals... Cheng Hao thought about it and finally decided not to teach pinyin first, but to teach him to recognize words directly.

He didn't have any teaching materials at hand. It was only 1980, and China and the United States had just established diplomatic relations. Simplified Chinese books were not available here, so he simply wrote something to teach.

Cheng Hao asked, "Do you know 'Quiet Night Thoughts'? The one with the moonlight shining brightly on the bed."

"What is this?" Lin Yuxun looked at Cheng Hao in confusion.

Cheng Hao recited the poem and then began to write it on the poster.

As a result, when Cheng Hao was writing, Lin Yuxun actually recited the poem: "The moon shines brightly before my bed, I wonder if it is frost on the ground. I look up at the bright moon, and I look down and think of my hometown."

Cheng Hao: "...Have you learned this before?"

"No." Lin Yuxun looked at Cheng Hao anxiously. His father could speak Chinese but couldn't write. He couldn't do these things either. He had never learned them...

He could write his own name because his father had asked a literate Chinese person to give him this name. The person wrote it down and his father kept it, so he could draw according to the name.

Will Cheng Hao feel that he is stupid because he doesn’t know anything?

"Then you are a genius!" Cheng Hao said excitedly. Although the poem was very short, Lin Yuxun was able to recite it after listening to it once, which was also very impressive!

"I'm not that great..."

"You try writing." Cheng Hao asked Lin Yuxun to copy the poem.

Lin Yuxun slowly copied what Cheng Hao had written. He had never learned it before, so his handwriting wasn't very pretty, but each stroke was very clear. There were some minor problems with some of the strokes in the middle, but he corrected them as soon as Cheng Hao pointed them out.

Cheng Hao waited for him to copy it once, then suddenly an idea occurred to him and asked, "Can you write it down from memory?"

Lin Yuxun was a little uneasy: "I don't know..."

"Try it. It doesn't matter if you make mistakes." Cheng Hao said. He thought Lin Yuxun was very smart. He might not be able to memorize the whole poem, but he might be able to write words like "moonlight".

Cheng Hao looked at Lin Yuxun expectantly, and then saw that the thin boy wrote down the entire poem word for word.

The only drawback is that... the handwriting is a bit ugly.

Lin Yuxun, he is really a genius!
