Chapter 33

Following Qin Gu's instructions, Ruan Bei found him at the corner of the corridor and saw a boy about their age standing next to him. The boy had a student-style haircut, a handsome face, and a somewhat dull demeanor. At first glance, he seemed like an ordinary good student.

I don't know what Qin Gu said to him, but the poor academic genius was trembling with fear, looking like a pitiful little wife being forced by a bully.

Ruan Bei felt a little embarrassed. He was supposed to go with Kun Kun, but this senior seemed to have been frightened by Kun Kun.

During the afternoon extracurricular activities, the dormitory building was bustling with people, making it an unsuitable place for conversation. Qin Gu gave Ruan Bei a wink, and the two walked out side by side.

Ruan Bei glanced back and saw the top student obediently following behind them. As soon as he turned his head, the student trembled in fright, his eyes filled with terror.

Ruan Bei awkwardly turned away and refused to look at him anymore, unable to understand how someone with such a timid personality could have the courage to commit suicide.

Summer is approaching, and the days are getting longer. It was still bright outside, so Ruan Bei approached Qin Gu and asked in a low voice, "Is it okay for him to come out like this?"

Qin Gu followed suit, leaning down and whispering in Ruan Bei's ear, "No problem. In this school, he has an advantage over other ghosts. If it's cloudy, he can even come out during the day, as long as it's not noon."

Of course, ghosts still can't be in the sun; they'll always feel a little uncomfortable.

The hot air blew on his ears, making them burn instantly. Ruan Bei touched his burning earlobe, looking helpless, and muttered in dissatisfaction, "Why are you so close?"

Qin Gu looked completely innocent: "Weren't we whispering to each other?"

Ruan Bei inexplicably didn't want to continue arguing with him about this issue, so she shut her mouth and stopped talking.

The two people and the ghost found an empty classroom with piles of old desks, drew the curtains to avoid direct sunlight making the studious ghost uncomfortable, and also to prevent others from seeing him talking to thin air.

Since they had invited him to be a tutor, they should show him the respect he deserved. Ruan Bei first gave a polite self-introduction, and then pointed to Qin Gu, saying, "This is my friend, Qin Gu. You should know him, right?"

The academic genius ghost subconsciously pushed up his glasses, suggesting he might have worn glasses in his previous life and was likely nearsighted.

"I know him, I recognize him, he's the Celestial Master." He gave an awkward, ingratiating smile, clearly not the type to be good at dealing with people.

"Don't be afraid. We're here to talk to you about something." Ruan Bei was speechless. This was the first time he had ever told a ghost not to be afraid. It was just that the academic genius ghost was impossible to be afraid of.

"Please tell me, please tell me," the top student hurriedly replied.

Ruan Bei told him that he had missed some classes and needed a teacher to help him with his problems. He then said, "At school, usually during evening self-study, I have some questions I'd like you to explain to me. Of course, I won't let you explain for free. You can tell me what you need, and I'll burn it for you."

Although Kunkun said he could let the academic ghost follow him around, it's not right to keep someone tied up indefinitely. Ghosts should also have the right to freedom.

Besides, he spends most of his daytime in class, so there's no need for him to come along.

The academic genius quickly waved his hand: "No need..."

"You don't want to?" Ruan Bei asked disappointedly.

Seeing the "You're dead" look in the eyes of the easy-going junior, the top student almost cried and hurriedly said, "No, I mean I don't want payment. I can explain the problems. I'm willing to explain the problems!"

Why were you suddenly so frightened? Ruan Bei sensed something and subconsciously turned her head. Qin Gu smiled gently and asked, "What's wrong?"

Ruan Bei: "...It's nothing."

Sigh, maybe ghosts are just naturally afraid of exorcists, especially this coward in front of them.

"You still have to pay me. I paid the tutor, so there's no reason for me not to. If you don't want anything, I can burn some paper money for you, okay?"

The academic genius secretly glanced at Qin Gu and tentatively said, "How about you burn some exam papers for me?"

"A test paper?" Ruan Bei chuckled. What a studious devil, even in death he doesn't forget to do problems.

"Is it okay?" the top student asked in a low voice.

"Of course, what kind of paper do you want? I can just burn it for you, right? Do you need to go to the paper shop to buy a new one?" I'm afraid the paper shop is all show and no substance.

"Just burn them! I want the latest exam papers from the last few years, math, physics, chemistry, any kind..."

Perhaps because Ruan Bei had been so gentle and mild-mannered, the academic genius finally grew a little bolder and made a small request, all the while secretly keeping an eye on Qin Gu.

Qin Gu ignored him, his gaze remaining fixed on Ruan Bei. The academic genius's request was indeed not unreasonable.

Ruan Bei thought to himself, "Looks like he really is a pure science genius."

Afterwards, Ruan Bei discussed the schedule with him. The academic ghost was probably too bored. Other ghosts could at least communicate with each other, but he was stuck in the school, boredly grading students' papers.

He was very proactive, saying he could start work tonight, looking eager and enthusiastic.

As for the agreed-upon reward, he didn't rush to ask for it, only telling Ruan Bei to have time to burn it and not to rush. He was very considerate and indeed had a good nature.

It just so happens that Ruan Bei has accumulated a lot of questions he doesn't know how to answer in the past few days. He originally planned to make an appointment with a tutor this weekend, but now it's a good time to try out the tutoring level of the academic genius.

If that doesn't work, I'll probably have to continue with tutoring on the weekend; if the teaching is good, then I won't need that teacher anymore.

Ruan Bei had already thought it through. After all, the top student ghost was an upperclassman. Even if he didn't explain things well, he would still burn the test papers. The ghost was all alone, which was quite pitiful.

After reaching an agreement, the two people and the ghost prepared to go back. As soon as they opened the door, the two students hunched over and ran away in a flash.

Ruan Bei froze, peeking out in confusion, and asked Qin Gu with a bewildered look, "What's going on?"

Qin Gu turned his head to the side: "I don't know either."

He was, after all, a cultivator, and his eyesight and hearing were better than those of ordinary people. The two students said that young couples often came to this classroom for secret meetings, and when they saw the curtains were drawn, they thought they had caught another couple and came specifically to eavesdrop.

He glanced at the still bewildered Ruan Bei and sighed silently. If it were really a secret rendezvous, that would be fine, but there's a ghost involved.

The academic genius has a name that doesn't quite match his personality: Wang Bufan, just like Lin Dengke. You can tell from the name that his parents have high hopes for him.

Unlike Ruan Bei, whose name followed his older brother's, when his uncle and aunt were discussing his eldest cousin Ruan Dong's name, they suddenly heard the song "The East Is Red, the Sun Rises" being sung outside. His aunt slapped her thigh and said, "Let's call him Ruan Dongfang."

Later, because they found a girl nearby who was also named Dongfang, they changed her name to Ruan Dong to avoid confusion.

When it came to the second cousin Ruan Nan and his sister Ruan Xi, the two children were due around the same time. Ruan Nan was only five days older than Ruan Xi. Both families were worried about naming their children, so they simply followed Ruan Dong's lead and named the child Southwest.

However, the second aunt said that the name Ruan Nan was not nice for a girl, so she took the initiative to get the name Ruan Nan for her son.

As he grew up and became more sensible, Ruan Nan repeatedly asked to change his name and repeatedly ordered everyone not to call him by his full name.

In high school, he pursued a girl, but she called him "Brother Ruan Nan," and Ruan Nan's first love ended there.

Upon arriving in Ruanbei, it was only natural to gather the four cardinal directions.

Although the name they chose for their child was simple and didn't sound like it was given with much thought, Ruan Bei knew that the parents' love was genuine.

He also likes his name; you can tell from the sound that he's part of the same family as his older siblings.

As for the academic genius, Ghost King Bufan, after consulting him, Ruan Bei called him Senior Wang.

Ruan Bei felt that Wang Bufan seemed very happy when he heard him call him "senior".

During evening self-study, Wang Bufan stood next to Ruan Bei. It was fortunate that Lin Dengke was not in class, otherwise it would have been difficult to arrange things.

They couldn't communicate directly, but that didn't matter. If Ruan Bei didn't know how to do a question, he would just mark it with a pen and draw a question mark under the question number, and Wang Bufan would explain it to him. Anyway, the other students couldn't hear him.

Then Ruan Bei realized that she had really made the right choice in hiring this teacher!

Wang Bufan truly lives up to his reputation as a former top scorer in the college entrance examination. His problem-solving steps are extremely standardized, following the teacher's instructions clearly, with every step and every formula explained precisely.

If Ruan Bei doesn't remember a formula, he can immediately recite the definition, and even if he doesn't know exactly which page in the book it's on, he can still remember it almost perfectly.

Meanwhile, if Ruan Bei didn't understand something, he would write an arrow pointing to the left, and Wang Bufan would explain that part again. If Ruan Bei understood, he would draw an arrow pointing to the right, and Wang Bufan would continue explaining.

This is the communication method they came up with; it's simple, convenient, easy to understand, and user-friendly.

What's most impressive is that Wang Bufan can even summarize it himself. He tells Ruan Bei how this kind of question is usually tested, how it can be modified, which knowledge point to grasp, and where to break the problem. He is truly dedicated to his work.

Moreover, this teacher is knowledgeable but doesn't talk much. Apart from explaining the problems, he is quiet and doesn't disturb Ruan Bei when he is doing problems. He can concentrate on reading the book with great interest.

When Ruan Bei took a look, he saw it was a math textbook. If this guy hadn't died, he would have been a real talent for academic research.

The difference between having a teacher and not having a teacher is huge. The learning efficiency this night was much better than when Ruan Bei usually studies on his own.

On his own, he might not be able to solve three difficult problems in two evening study sessions, but with Wang Bufan's guidance, he could solve two problems in one study session and thoroughly understand the knowledge points.

Ruan Bei was satisfied. With Wang Bufan around, he was confident that he could quickly learn back the knowledge he had forgotten and catch up with the progress.

After school that evening, Ruan Bei quietly thanked Wang Bufan and said, "See you tomorrow."

Wang Bufan spent the whole night explaining problems to him and was quite happy. He waved to Ruan Bei with a little excitement and said, "Okay, okay, see you tomorrow."

On the way, Ruan Bei praised Wang Bufan again and again with great joy, saying that he explained the problems well, was meticulous and patient, and was a really good guy.

Qin Gu listened to him praising the ghost all the way, then pondered for a moment and felt a sour smell in the air.

He couldn't even stick close to Xiao Bei all day, which allowed that idiot to take advantage of him.

"Is he better or am I better?" Qin Gu couldn't help but ask sourly.

Ruan Bei was speechless: "What are you comparing yourself to him for?"

Qin Gu raised an eyebrow, unconvinced, and said, "Then why do you keep praising him? Apart from not being able to explain the questions, in what way am I inferior to him?"

Ruan Bei laughed for real this time: "You said it yourself, he's only better than you in this aspect, so why are you still fussing about it?"

He thought Kunkun was really cute, that she would actually be jealous of a ghost, which meant she really valued him, her childhood friend.

Qin Gu pursed his lips and remained silent, pedaling his bicycle at breakneck speed.

Ruan Bei felt a light, airy feeling in his heart, something he couldn't quite explain, but he was just happy.

After returning home, the two did their homework together. Ruan Bei finished first, then quietly took out the high-quality stationery she had bought to help Ran Yusheng write love letters. After thinking for a moment, she began to write:

"To Qin Kunkun, Ruan Bei said he thinks you are the best in the world!"

He folded the letter neatly and, just like passing notes in class, pushed it in front of Qin Gu.

"What is this?" Qin Gu asked, holding the letter.

"See for yourself," Ruan Bei smiled at him.

Qin Gu unfolded the letter, his brows instantly relaxing into a smile: "How childish of you!"

Ruan Bei pouted: "You're not happy even though I praised you? Don't give it back!"

"I want it, who said I don't?" He dodged Ruan Bei's outstretched hand from grabbing the letter, carefully protecting it as if afraid of tearing it.

"What are you writing? Let me see." Ruan Bei saw him put the letter on the table and start writing something, so she curiously peeked over to look.

"Wait a minute." Qin Gu blocked his view with his arm.

Ruan Bei pouted angrily: "You're so stingy!"

"Here you go, I've finished writing it."

Ruan Bei took it and looked at it, then laughed in exasperation: "You're so narcissistic!"

Qin Gu wrote below: "As for Ruan Xiaobei, Qin Gu said that he felt the same way."

Qin Gu took the letter from his hand, folded it, and put it in the book, humming a little tune with a smug look on his face.

Ruan Bei was both amused and exasperated: "Why are you keeping this?"

Qin Gu said in a serious tone, "If you ever think someone else is better, I'll show it to you to remind you not to forget your original intentions."

What the hell is this about staying true to our original aspirations?!

The following Saturday, high school students still had to attend classes. Today, Lin Dengke came back. He was still suffering from a cold, sneezing and having a runny nose. He was listless and looked miserable.

Ruan Bei discussed with him whether they could move to the outside. Lin Dengke was not unwilling. There were many students in the class and the seats were crowded. If the students inside wanted to leave, they would have to get up to give up their seats, which was very troublesome.

So Ruan Bei was able to move to a seat near the corridor, making it easier for Wang Bufan to explain the problems to him.

Wang Bufan arrived at the evening self-study session as promised. When he saw Lin Dengke, he was embarrassed for a moment and said apologetically, "I didn't mean to."

Ruan Bei drew a question mark on the draft paper. Wang Bufan explained, "That night, while he was reading, he said, 'I don't believe it, I can fall asleep while reading...'"

Ruan Bei: "..."

Got it. He looked sympathetically at his deskmate, whose nose was almost scraped raw. You really can't make promises you can't keep. Who knows if there's a ghost listening to you?

After last night's practice, Ruan Bei and Wang Bufan cooperated even better today. One explained and the other listened. After listening, Ruan Bei felt he understood and then did the problem himself.

Lin Dengke saw Ruan Bei staring at a difficult problem for a long time, writing a question mark and drawing an arrow, looking completely clueless.

He thought Ruan Bei might come and ask him something later, but when he looked again a while later, Ruan Bei had just written down the final result.

Lin Dengke was stunned for a moment. He solved it just like that? What a coincidence.

Then he saw Ruan Bei repeat the above steps, draw a few simple symbols that had no meaning, stare at the problem for a while, and without even trying to solve it, suddenly came up with a solution. There was a problem that he had watched Ruan Bei solve for a long time in the morning but could not solve.

Lin Dengke stared blankly for a while, and Ruan Bei noticed his gaze and asked in a low voice, "Is something wrong?"

Lin Dengke quickly shook his head, turned his head away, and secretly looked at Ruan Bei, who had solved another problem.

Lin Dengke thought for a moment, then flipped through his workbook, found a problem he couldn't solve, covered it with his arm, and drew a few symbols like Ruan Bei. He looked at the problem for a while, but still couldn't solve it.

He scratched his head, feeling that he was delirious from his illness and couldn't believe he had done something so stupid.

Over the weekend, thanks to Wang Bufan's excellent personal tutor, Ruan Bei no longer needed to seek tutoring from her previous teacher. She called him to tell him that she didn't need tutoring for the time being.

Their contract was originally quite lenient, and the teacher didn't mind. He wished Ruan Bei good luck in his studies over the phone, and then everything was fine.

Ruan Bei and Qin Gu made an appointment to go out. They needed to buy a lot of things, including Wang Bufan's test papers. They couldn't let such a high-level tutor work for nothing.

Ruan Bei plans to buy all the famous exam papers on the market. Anyway, he has money now. He hasn't even spent 10,000 of the 100,000 yuan yet. The lipstick set still accounts for the majority of the money.

Fortunately, Qin Gu persuaded them to stop. There were so many test papers; if the two of them really carried them back, their schoolbags wouldn't be able to hold them all.

Finally, Ruan Bei picked out some well-known books, such as "Wu San," and planned to buy "Huang X Secret Scrolls" next week. According to Wang Bufan's requirements, he wanted all the science subjects except for Chinese and English.

That adds up to quite a lot; knowledge is power, and sometimes that really is the literal meaning.

Afterwards, they went to a department store counter to buy lipsticks. Next Saturday is his sister's birthday, and since Ma Chunhua had tricked him out of his gift, he had to make up for it.

The surprise had already been discovered by her older sister, who said it wasn't necessary to spend so much money. Ruan Bei insisted on buying it, and in the end, her sister gave in, saying that she didn't need to buy the whole set because there were bound to be shades she didn't like.

Of course, some girls like to collect things, and they'll buy the whole set of lipsticks, but Ruanxi is a pragmatist.

Following her sister's advice, Ruan Bei bought the shades she liked. There were only three in total, which was nothing compared to the previous box of twelve.

The wealthy Ruan Bei felt he couldn't let his sister suffer like this, so he went to the jewelry counter in the mall to pick out a silver bracelet suitable for a young girl.

He had just picked out the bracelet and was about to ask Qin Gu to take a look and see if it suited his sister when he turned around and found that Qin Gu was gone.

Looking around, I realized I'd gone to look at the rings.

Ruan Bei suddenly seemed a little unhappy. She walked over and asked in a casual tone, "Why are you suddenly looking at rings? Are you thinking about getting married? Do you have someone you like?"

She came with him, so how could she run away on her own? Ruan Bei found a legitimate reason for her sudden negative emotions.

Qin Gu glanced at the counter and casually said, "Let me take a look first."

It's a pity there aren't any men's wedding rings. I wonder if it would be okay to suggest that Xiaobei wear the same ring as him.

Let's see what that means first. Does it mean yes or no?

Ruan Bei was getting anxious, but he didn't want to ask too many questions, otherwise he would seem like a gossip.

But if I don't ask him, I feel suffocated, unhappy, and extremely uncomfortable.

"Have you made your choice?" Qin Gu asked.

Ruan Bei said sullenly, "I've already made my selection. I was planning to ask you to take a look."

"Let's see now," Qin Gu said with a smile.

Ruan Bei silently led him back to see the chain he had previously chosen. Qin Gu agreed, so Ruan Bei bought it.

Ruan Bei was still unhappy after leaving the mall. Qin Gu tried to cheer him up for a while, but Ruan Bei seemed preoccupied and sullen.

Qin Gu pondered for a while and came up with an idea: "Would you like to make a magical artifact yourself?"
