The fourth day of the first lunar month
Cheng Jie and Qiu Ju took Maotou back to Qiu Ju's parents' home.
They brought a bag of flour, two chickens, and their own bicycles that they had ridden for a long time.
It is definitely impossible to take away a large item like a bicycle, and Li Qingyun does not need it.
She was planning to join the army after the New Year so she didn't plan to buy one. Besides, she already had a brand new bicycle in her own space, but it was inconvenient to take it out. So when Cheng Jie asked her if she wanted one, she refused.
The matter of leaving was quite secretive and Cheng Jie didn't dare tell anyone about it, so he simply decided to send the bicycle to Qiu Ju's parents' home for her brother to ride.
He had been away for many years and didn't know when he would return. He felt very guilty about separating his wife from his family. He considered these as his compensation.
The mother-in-law and father-in-law really couldn't bear to part with their daughter, but knowing that the place they were going to was a very prosperous and land-scarce place, they also agreed. Instead of staying here and suffering, it would be better to live a good life. As long as she was fine, they would be relieved.
In the end, he hugged his daughter and cried bitterly.
They are old, and this time we will see each other less and less.
As for Qiuju's younger brother, he didn't care about his sister leaving. He was concentrating on the bicycle. In the village, only the team leader's family had a bicycle, and now his family had one too. He had envied his brother-in-law's bicycle for a long time, but he didn't expect that it would finally fall into his hands.
Qiuju felt a little disappointed when she saw how secretly happy he was. However, she didn't want to argue with him. He was only twenty years old and still a big boy. It was not easy for him to be a father and support a family.
"Big brother, after I leave, the family will rely on you. Take good care of our parents and be more careful in everything. Don't act like a child and make people worry."
"Sister, I understand. Don't worry."
They didn't know that they would be separated for more than ten years.
On the evening of the fourth day of the New Year, Cheng Jie's family invited Li Qingyun to dinner.
Early in the morning on the fifth day of the first lunar month, Cheng Jie and his family left.
Everything that needed to be disposed of in the house had been disposed of, leaving only some simple furniture and nothing valuable.
Li Qingyun got up early in the morning, boiled six eggs, heated up a dozen large meat buns, and prepared a bottle of homemade meat sauce, all of which were convenient foods to eat on the train.
When they rushed to Cheng's house with Dabao in tow, the family was ready to go out.
"Sister-in-law, luckily we made it in time. This is a little gift from me. You can eat it on the way." Li Qingyun handed the small bag to Qiuju.
"We have already prepared food. We are really sorry to trouble you." Qiuju said embarrassedly.
"Yeah, thank you for your hard work." Cheng Jie was carrying things on his back and holding things in his hands.
"Brother Cheng, Sister Qiuju, you've worked so hard these past few months and helped me a lot, especially with Dabao's schooling. Brother Cheng took care of it all. Thank you so much.
I don’t know when we will see each other again, I wish you and your family a safe journey and a bright future.”
"Thank you for your kind words. You are so polite. Dabao is also my godson. We will see each other again in the future. I wish your family all the best. Brother Tingzhou has a bright future. Your blessings are yet to come." Cheng Jie said seriously.
"That's right, Qingyun, we are lifelong relatives, don't forget your sister-in-law.
I'm not very good physically, so I'm lucky to have just one son. If I had a daughter, I'd definitely give her to your Dabao, and we'd be in-laws for life." Sister Qiuju said with a smile.
"That's not difficult. If they have another daughter, we can still be in-laws for life, haha." Cheng Jie said half jokingly and half seriously.
Li Qingyun was taught to have free love since she was a child, and she could not accept such an illusory thing as arranged marriage.
So she just laughed it off.
It was time for them to leave, and Sister Qiuju handed the house key to Li Qingyun for safekeeping.
Maotou and Dabao hugged each other tightly and said goodbye reluctantly. They were each other's best friends in the village. They had lived and eaten together every day for a period of time and had a very close relationship.
"When you get there, you must miss me, Brother Maotou. This is a little wooden bird my grandfather made for me. I'm giving it to you. Seeing it is like seeing a treasure."
"Okay, thank you Dabao, we'll see each other again. Mom said we'll be back in a few years. Time flies."
The two children didn't know that when they met again, they had already grown into adults.
The three adults never thought that their joke would come true.
After seeing Cheng Jie and his family off, Li Qingyun felt a little melancholy.
Her best friend in the village was Qiu Ju, with whom she could talk about anything. Since she left, she felt a little uncomfortable for a while.
Thinking that I would be leaving soon, I felt relieved.
It is unknown how Cheng Jie's family will develop after going to Hong Kong. With his uncle leading the way, they should be able to take root in Hong Kong smoothly. Maybe when they see him again in the future, he will have become a big shot.
After the fifth day of the New Year, the New Year seemed to be almost over and the village returned to peace.
Cheng Jie's family left quietly. Only Gu's father, who gave them the letter of introduction, knew about it. However, he just thought that they were going to Beijing to visit relatives whom they had not seen for many years.
Time flies
On the Lantern Festival, Li Qingyun made some Yuanxiao (Chinese rice dumplings) herself, with black sesame flavor.
The mother and son were enjoying their meal when Gu's mother suddenly came to visit.
"Old man, do you have any brown sugar at home? Can you give me some?" Mother Gu ran very fast and said breathlessly.
"Mom, go slowly, the ground is slippery, don't fall.
Why do you suddenly want brown sugar? I still have some at home, I'll give it all to you." Li Qingyun quickly got up and went to the kitchen.
She has a lot of brown sugar in her space, but it's not easy to take it out. There is only about one pound of brown sugar in the glass jar at home.
Mother Gu hurried to follow.
“Thank you so much, I won’t take it for free, I’ll pay you.
It was still that disappointing one. The news this morning was that she had a premature birth. She fell yesterday evening and was in pain all night. She gave birth this morning to a little girl weighing more than four pounds.
It was supposed to be the right day at the end of March, and I thought it would be in time to prepare brown sugar in the spring. But I didn’t expect the baby to be born at that time, and there was nothing at home.
Now your father has gone to the villagers to buy fish. I'll get some brown sugar and white flour, and we'll go see her.
I don’t know if this child, who weighs only four pounds, can stand upright. It’s pitiful.”
Mother Gu said as she walked.
Li Qingyun took out the brown sugar jar from the cupboard, which looked like it contained more than a pound of brown sugar.
She simply asked Gu's mother to take it all away.
She accepted the money given to her by Gu's mother generously. If it were someone else, she might have given it away for free. After all, having a baby is a big deal.
But who made her hold a grudge?
Gu Tinghua had caused trouble for her family time and time again, and she hadn't forgotten it yet.
The only reason I gave her all the brown sugar was for the sake of my newborn baby. Poor girl, she has such a terrible mother.
