Chapter 6 Cleaning

Li Qingyun used a large bowl to serve three sweet potatoes separately, and the other two small bowls contained two small bowls of rice porridge, adding a small bowl of rice. The porridge was thick and sticky, and smelled strangely fragrant. Not to mention Dabao, even she felt hungry.

There is still a small bowl of porridge left in the pot. This is the second baby’s meal today. He is five months old. In addition to drinking milk, he can also eat a complementary food every day to slowly adapt. This rice porridge is just right.

The mother and son began to enjoy breakfast at the dining table under the eaves. The second baby in the crib looked around happily, and the years were peaceful.

"Mom, this porridge smells so good. You eat it first. I'll feed my brother and then I'll eat it." Dabao lowered his head and smelled the rice porridge in the bowl, revealing a long-lost smile.

"You eat first, then feed him. The porridge is still hot."

Seeing that his younger brother was having fun and not crying, Dabao struggled for a moment before sitting down to prepare for dinner.

The simple white rice porridge, with a hint of sweet potato, is so delicious that it will surprise you.

Both of them were concentrating on eating without saying a word.

Dabao had never eaten such thick and fragrant rice porridge before. He ate it with great care and wanted to remember the taste. In the end, he even licked the bowl clean.

Li Qingyun hadn't eaten such simple and sweet rice porridge for a long time. The last time she had eaten it was when her grandmother made it for her when she was a child.

After dinner, Dabao took the initiative to clean up the dishes. Li Qingyun did not object. This place was not like the later generations where children were spoiled. Children in this era could help with many things at home at the age of four. She was not going to break this balance. As long as it did not threaten his safety, she would let him help with things within her ability.

After dinner, Li Qingyun looked around and found that she was living in a small courtyard with a main room in the middle, a bedroom on the east side and a bedroom on the west side. They were living in one of the rooms now, and the other was used to store sundries and food. There was also a small house next to it, which was the kitchen. Next to the kitchen was a thatched shed, where firewood for the family was stored.

This is the general layout. There is a private plot behind the yard. It is not very big, but it is used to grow various vegetables. It is enough for a family of three. The whole yard is surrounded by a fence, so it is relatively safe.

This was the home where she would live for many years to come. Now it was 1966, and the social storm had begun. She could do nothing now and could only take care of herself and her children first.

Li Qingyun found a long broom to clean up all the cobwebs in the room, then took an old wooden basin and a rag to start cleaning, wiping the tables, chairs and cabinets.

After washing the pots and pans, Dabao fed his younger brother rice porridge. He usually ate the rice porridge with great relish, but today he only ate two bites and stopped. He was very anxious and thought that Erbao was sick again. His mother said that Erbao was not hungry yet and would eat after being fed later. Only then did he feel relieved.

It was already noon when Li Qingyun and Dabao cleaned up several rooms. She finally remembered to make lunch.

Li Qingyun called Dabao, pretending to take out a box of palace peach cakes from the cabinet but actually taking it out from the space.

"Here, eat first. I'll light a fire and cook right away." After saying that, she handed him two slices of peach cake.

Dabao didn’t know what she usually bought or what was in the cabinet, so it was okay for her to take out the pastries.

He carefully held two pieces of peach cakes that were bigger than his palms, fearing that some of them would fall off. It would be shameful to waste them, especially since they were so precious.

Li Qingyun didn't expect that he cherished these two pieces of peach cakes so much. Thinking of those children in the future, she sighed in her heart and decided to take good care of them in the future.

Gu Dabao moved to the dining table and caught it with his little hands. He nibbled a little bit of the peach pastry. Hmm, it was fragrant and sweet. He didn't care about why his mother was so generous today. He just wanted to taste this rare delicacy.

After finishing the two pieces of peach cake in his hand, he licked his hands with satisfaction, picked up all the crumbs that fell on the table and ate them all, then went to help his mother with satisfaction.

Li Qingyun also ate two pieces of peach cakes, took out a handful of noodles and three eggs from the space, and prepared to make noodles for lunch today.

A good cook cannot cook without rice. There is nothing at home but some coarse grains and sweet potatoes.

She obviously has so many supplies in her space, she won't treat herself badly. Even if she can't eat meat today, she can always have a meal of tomato and egg noodles.

It was summer, and the tomatoes in the private vegetable garden were growing well. I picked a few and started making lunch.

After eating the peach cakes, Dabao came over to help his mother light the fire. Erbao had already fallen asleep in his crib.

Li Qingyun diced the tomatoes, beat the eggs in a bowl, chopped a few green onions, and started to stir-fry the tomatoes and eggs. There was only a little bit of lard at the bottom of the bowl, which was just enough for this meal.

Gu Dabao was momentarily bewildered when he saw his mother use up all the remaining lard in the bowl. Was his mother simply giving up on life? Lard and eggs again.

Thinking of his mother's weird behavior today, he had many questions in his mind, but he couldn't say them out loud. He even secretly hoped that his mother could be like this every day.

Take the fragrant scrambled eggs with tomatoes out of the pan, add water and bring to a boil to cook the noodles without washing the pan.

Dabao wolfed down the noodles with scrambled eggs and tomatoes. The oily tomato and egg noodles were a delicious meal that could only be eaten during the Chinese New Year.

The mother and son had full bellies after eating so much, and they smiled at each other with satisfaction. Dabao seldom saw such a gentle mother, and he couldn't help but say, "Mom, you look so beautiful when you smile." After saying that, he lowered his head embarrassedly.

"Don't think you don't have to wash the dishes just because you praise me. Hurry up and wash the dishes. I've already heated up the porridge this morning and fed it to your brother."

Dabao was good at these things, so he immediately started to clean up with his short legs.

Li Qingyun teased the baby who was babbling in the crib, turned him over and let him play on his stomach, then changed his wet diaper and replaced it with a clean one.

This diaper is too troublesome to use, and there is no guarantee that she will not leak urine. However, it is not convenient for her to use diapers now, so she can only make do with this for now.

Fortunately, I bought a lot of cotton cloth in the space. When I run out of space, I will cut a few clean and comfortable diapers for him to use first. His previous diapers were made of some rags, which were hard and rough and uncomfortable to use.

He must use diapers under people's noses during the day, and then use diapers secretly at night. This way, both adults and children will be convenient and comfortable.

After the house was almost cleaned, Li Qingyun began to wash the various dirty clothes and sheets in the large wooden basin.

There is a well in this small courtyard, so it is convenient that we don’t have to go out to fetch water.

While Dabao wasn't paying attention, she secretly added some laundry detergent to the water used to soak the clothes. It was impossible to wash the clothes clean with just these soap nuts, she didn't have the skills.

After adding the laundry detergent, there were indeed a lot of bubbles, and Li Qingyun began to scrub slowly.
