Chapter 2, Second Beam of Light: "How could it be her..."
"Finally, the light is green! It's been so long..."
Song Xingyun deliberately exclaimed loudly.
She turned around after speaking and saw the man start to move, then smiled slightly in relief.
Although Yu Mushang couldn't see, he could hear the footsteps that had been following him whenever she approached again.
He knew she had walked ahead of him when the light was red.
This made him even more curious about her purpose in following him.
The earphones that connect to the smart cane have some bugs and so far haven't been able to explain why it caused the "collision incident," only providing simple route guidance.
He used the time while waiting at the traffic light to restart both devices simultaneously. Then, a mechanical notification sound came through his earpiece, following her voice.
"I recognized an old friend."
"One meter directly in front."
Is that the reason?
Yu Mushang frowned, puzzled by this "old friend".
However, probably because he hadn't entered her specific information, the headset only gave a level one warning.
Just then, Song Xingyun's phone rang. It was her best friend Wen Ying, who had seen her rant and wanted to check on her. Song Xingyun didn't hide it from her, "Yes, I resigned."
Wen Ying cursed her several times on the other end of the phone.
“Trashy people will get their comeuppance. To celebrate your escape from suffering, I’ll pick you up for a big meal later.”
"Do you have enough money on you? Why don't you come stay at my place and save on rent? Sister, you may not have much talent, but you have a lot of money."
Song Xingyun was amused by her sudden change of topic. "Have you ever heard of 'don't flaunt your wealth'? Don't worry, I still have savings. I can just find another job."
Wen Ying comes from a wealthy family. Five years ago, when Wen Ying got lost, she encountered some street thugs, and Song Xingyun happened to pass by and saved her. After that incident, Wen Ying became very attached to Song Xingyun as her savior, and their friendship remains strong to this day. Song Xingyun, who is all alone, cherishes this friendship.
Whenever Song Xingyun encountered difficulties, Wen Ying would immediately try to bribe her with money and connections to help her, but she never succeeded. Song Xingyun always managed to get back on her feet on her own, and her tenacity was something that Wen Ying, who called herself a "lazy bum," could only envy.
After chatting for a few more minutes, Song Xingyun hung up the phone. By then, they had reached a relatively flat road, and Song Xingyun slowly moved to the side and behind the man to continue escorting him.
Until she followed him to the post office, where the man's tall figure stood in front of the dark green mailbox, Song Xingyun watched as he skillfully and accurately took an envelope out of his bag and dropped it in.
Seeing this scene, she was somewhat dazed. The last time she wrote a letter was on the day she started her job last year, and the recipient had not replied. Song Xingyun knew that the letter he had put in the mailbox could not be for her. "Is it for someone he's newly sponsored?"
She murmured to herself, happy for that lucky person.
When I looked up again, I saw that the man had already walked to the side of the road and gotten into a car.
There was an extra piece of paper where he had been standing; it was left by him.
Song Xingyun ran forward, picked it up, and then chased after the car.
"your......"
The result was obvious: she couldn't catch up. Song Xingyun bent over and stopped, panting with her hands on her thighs. "Today's amount of exercise is equivalent to a year's worth."
She then looked at the crumpled piece of paper she had just crumpled and realized it was a job posting: "Life Assistant... Daily care for blind people... Home living... Skilled in drawing... Bachelor's degree..."
Putting all the words together, it wasn't hard to see that the man was the "employer" in this job posting. Song Xingyun stared at the paper for a long time until the car behind her honked at her, which brought her back to her senses and made her move away. At this moment, the sunlight that had been hidden for a long time reappeared from the clouds and shone on her little by little.
When Song Xingyun looked up at the sky, she felt a bit of blindness, and her surprise gradually intensified. "Does this count as a job falling into my lap?"
This job posting was like a perfect opportunity for her.
She carefully folded it and put it in her bag, then saw the maple leaf bell again. "Ah, I hope I'll have a chance to return it to him..."
Meanwhile, on the bus,
"Boss, that girl isn't going to pursue him anymore."
Yu Mushang closed his eyes and gave a faint "hmm," saying, "You're driving like you're about to be reborn. Only an idiot would keep chasing you."
Ying Qi, the male secretary in the driver's seat, was used to his sharp tongue and chuckled twice. "I was just worried that she might have ulterior motives. I saw it clearly; she followed me suspiciously for a long time."
Yu Mushang would go out on foot to mail letters every month, and Ying Qi would drive alongside him, waiting for him to get in the car at the post office entrance. Therefore, Song Xingyun followed him the whole way, and he saw her most clearly.
At this point, Ying Qi added, "Boss, have you noticed?"
Yu Mushang replied coldly, "I'm just blind, not deaf."
Ying Qi wanted to ask him again why he hadn't contacted her to handle the situation after discovering it, but when she looked up at the rearview mirror and saw his brows furrowed, she decided it was best to keep quiet for now.
Yu Mushang didn't know why he deliberately left the extra job posting in his bag after hearing her phone conversation.
As the car entered the villa area, Yu Mushang immediately returned to his studio on the basement floor. He had Ying Qi embed the smart cane into the system, retrieve the "recognize old friend" command, and find the information he had previously entered.
Looking at the text displayed on the screen, Ying Qi blurted out, "The entry time is seven years ago, and the name of the person being entered is Song Xingyun."
Upon hearing that name, Yu Mushang swayed slightly, "How could it be her..."

As soon as Song Xingyun returned to her small rented apartment, she rushed into the bathroom to take a shower. The sound of water accompanied her cheerful singing, "Lula la la la la, I love taking a shower, bad luck goes away, awoo awoo~"
Although she was tone-deaf, she sang with great enthusiasm, and this good mood lasted until she came out of the bathroom.
With two hours to go before her dinner appointment with Wen Ying, she returned to her computer desk in the study, logged into the private email address she had left in the complaint email earlier that day, and saw the reply.
"We have received your report and are investigating. Please keep your phone accessible."
Song Xingyun breathed a sigh of relief. "No news is good news."
She knew she didn't stand much of a chance in this round. Zhong Shichao had powerful connections; she'd heard that one of the judges in the competition was his aunt. She was prepared for a long battle.
With the job posting in hand, she took a deep breath, submitted her resume to the email address provided, and then got up to dry her hair.
Unexpectedly, her phone rang ten minutes later. It was an unknown number calling. "Hello? Is this Ms. Song Xingyun?"
Song Xingyun listened cautiously to the male voice on the other end without making a sound, until the man explained the purpose of the call, "We have received your resume."
Song Xingyun then spoke up, "It's me."
In just a few words, the interview time was set. When Song Xingyun hung up the phone, she was amazed by the efficiency. She suddenly understood the feeling of being pushed along by fate in the metaphysical posts she had come across.
This was a job opportunity, and also an opportunity to repay the kindness she had longed for since the day he sponsored her.
This is why she chose to come to this city after graduation; although his address was not detailed, it was right here.
Over the past seven years, he has rejected almost all of her "returns," with only the maple leaf bell surviving. After she started working last year, he cut off all contact with her. She originally intended to wait until she was stronger before looking for him, but she never expected to meet him at this time.
Song Xingyun received a text message on her phone inviting her to an interview, which specified the time and place. She felt nervous, something she hadn't done in a long time.
Because that address matched the address on the letter she had in her hand by two-thirds, except for the specific house number.
At that moment, her heart told her that she hadn't mistaken him for someone else; she had indeed met him.
Song Xingyun entered the company name mentioned in the text message into the internet and found a small amount of information.
Yu Mushang, a child prodigy, won the top prize in the "Science and Technology Cup" competition at the young age of sixteen. After an accident that left him blind, his technology research and development company strategically focuses on benefiting the visually impaired community. His smart white cane, a product within his product line, is renowned nationwide...
She then realized that their fates seemed equally bumpy; they achieved fame at a young age but had unhappy families. However, he had been helping others from an early age, while she was still focused on saving herself.

"What? You have an interview tomorrow? You really don't give yourself any breathing room at all." Wen Ying had just picked her up when she received this news and sighed several times.
Song Xingyun chuckled, "Since I'm free anyway, I might as well give it a try if I get the chance."
Wen Ying knew that Song Xingyun couldn't be persuaded, so she could only offer her support and say, "I will always be your strong backing."
Song Xingyun took her arm and said, "Received!"
Wen Ying pouted and glanced at her, "Not only do you receive it, you need to take it to heart!"
Song Xingyun readily agreed, "You listened! That's why I'm here to treat you to a big meal!"
Wen Ying let her go only after hearing that she meant she wouldn't be competing for the order that night.
*
That night,
Song Xingyun had a dream all night long. In the dream, she was in a funeral home, crying until she couldn't cry anymore in front of her father's body who had died in an accident. In his hand, he was still clutching the red string with stars that she had braided for him the day before. In the dream, she went from blaming him for leaving her alone to finally accepting reality.
"I hope you won't feel any pain in your final moments."
Song Huazhang lost his wife at a young age and raised Song Xingyun alone. When they were little, Song Xingyun always asked him to promise that he would stay with her for a very long time, but he always just smiled.
"Dad promises to stay with you until you come of age."
Who knew that her words would become a self-fulfilling prophecy?
The day he left was exactly the day after Song Xingyun's eighteenth birthday.
From then on, she never celebrated her birthday again.
When she received her acceptance letter from the art academy, there was no one to share her joy with.
On that same day, she received the first donation from that person. She didn't know who it was. When the community staff found her, they only said that it was a kind-hearted person in the community. Along with the money came a letter full of encouragement.
Song Xingyun admitted that the letter was the light that shone into her dark days. She dared not be decadent anymore. She wanted to study and realize her dreams. She rebuilt her world, which had collapsed and was now just a collection of basic structures, bit by bit. It took her seven years to be reborn from the ashes.
When she opened her eyes, there were still traces of tears at the corners of her eyes. "Dad, did you come to remind me to look forward? I will."
Song Xingyun got up and washed her face with cold water. She froze two metal spoons in the refrigerator to reduce the swelling around her eyes. Before leaving, she felt the swelling had gone down quite well, perhaps due to psychological factors. She encouraged herself in front of the mirror before going out.
"Success is the only option! Charge!"
As she drove along, the scenery outside the car window kept receding. Clutching the maple leaf bell in her hand, her heart was pounding. She considered hundreds of possible outcomes, but when she got off the car, her thoughts just stopped on the one where she would definitely pass the interview.
She looked at the villa area in front of her, gripped the strap of her crossbody bag tightly, and hugged the folder in her hand full of her works, the path she had come from.
The weather was unusually nice today. Song Xingyun glanced at the sky and said, "According to our agreement, my good luck should be on my side now."
She smiled after muttering those words and walked to the gate. Perhaps because she used to always send letters to this gate, she felt a strange sense of familiarity.
After explaining her purpose, she successfully arrived at Villa No. 9.
Ying Qi was already waiting at the door, and a look of surprise flashed through his mind when he saw her.
Is it really her?
But he didn't show it on his face. He chatted casually with her as he led her inside, and only felt relieved after confirming that she was not in danger. He led Song Xingyun to a door and said, "Let's go in."
Song Xingyun nodded, then paused as she gripped the doorknob, turning back to confirm, "Is the boss's surname Yu?"
Ying Qi was surprised that she would ask this question; she must have done her research beforehand. She nodded.
Song Xingyun silently told herself "Go for it!" three more times, and then she pushed the door open...
