Chapter 283: A Rider Away from the rest (Please subscribe!)

This year's Lunar New Year box office is quite lively.

After mid-November, domestic historical blockbusters "The Massacre", Hollywood blockbuster "The Sorcerer", Hollywood animated film "Ice Age", Hollywood blockbuster "Robot 2018", and Wang Rixiang's costume comedy "Forbidden City Cop" which gathered a large number of domestic stars began to be released in the Lunar New Year holiday, staging a very fierce box office battle.

but--

This is not the most intense part.

The most intense period was after mid-December.

On December 15, the Hollywood war blockbuster "G.I. Joe" was released.

On December 16, the Hollywood adventure comedy film "Museum 2" was released.

On December 17, the sequel to "Get Out", "Get Out 2", which achieved good results in the first half of the year, was released.

On December 18, "The Fortress Besieged" was released.

On December 19, "The Manhunt" was released.

At this time, the impact of films such as "The Massacre" has not yet subsided.

The key point is that these are just the famous movies. Even if the less famous movies are included, this year's Lunar New Year box office is packed with dozens of movies - according to statistics, there are as many as 53 domestic films and 18 imported films.

During the Lunar New Year holiday, domestic comedies have always been a genre that is more popular with the market and audiences.

Like "Forbidden City Cop", it is actually a terrible movie at its core. It is extremely vulgar and has no substance at all, and it is not particularly funny.

But even so, "Forbidden City Cop" still reaped a lot of box office revenue.

The domestic blockbusters released during the Lunar New Year holiday are all competing for dominance.

"The Holocaust" has extremely tense images and it also touched on the sensitive topic of a famous massacre in history, so it attracted a lot of attention before it was released.

"The Fortress Besieged" was filmed in a simple, direct and sincere way.

"Get Out 2" not only still stars Ji Zhaode and Zhang Zhiwei, and makes use of the original cast of "Get Out" which achieved both good reputation and box office success, but also spent a huge amount of money to invite Hollywood action star Shang Ge to play the opponent of Ji Zhaode, Zhang Zhiwei and others, and several scenes were filmed in Siam, making it a complete international blockbuster.

As for "The Chase", it is starred by Xu Kai, who is recently the most popular and is known as China's No. 1 action star, and Zhu Bing, China's No. 1 beauty. In addition to the highly intensive chasing and fighting, it is also interspersed with a variety of jokes. The strong entertainment value full of ingenuity and fun also creates a distinctive action comedy feature.

In other words, "The Chase" can be classified as a comedy movie.

This is definitely not the case that the "The Chase" crew is trying to force "The Chase" to be a comedy movie just for the sake of box office.

Under the guidance of Lin Da and Tang Jiping, Xu Kai is no longer the grandmaster Huang Feihong in "The Grandmaster", but a policeman named Yu Jiaju who performs many unreasonable and unexpected actions and creates a lot of comedy effects. He frequently makes jokes in the acrobatic and thrilling chase, making the audience laugh.

So "The Hunt" is indeed a comedy, although it also has some serious parts.

In the past, the Lunar New Year movie season was dominated by domestic blockbusters, and imported films were rarely seen.

But in this year's Lunar New Year holiday, imported films are not to be outdone - although the number of imported films is still not as many as domestic films, Hollywood blockbusters still have an absolute advantage in quality and investment.

All in all, this year's Lunar New Year box office saw a chaotic battle among many blockbuster films.

but--

After a brutal fight, one movie still stood out.

This movie is "The Chase" starring Xu Kai.

To be honest, there are many reasons why "Manhunt" stands out from other films.

First of all, it must be that "The Chase" is well made.

In addition to Xu Kai's various cool and funny performances, "The Chase" is thrilling and also pioneered Xu Kai's dangerous scenes, while Zhu Bing and Dong Ni also have their own merits in their performances in the film.

This film can be said to be a milestone work in Xu Kai's transition from a master of the Republic of China to a modern police hero.

Xu Kai's difficult moves, which repeatedly break the limits of the human body, are breathtaking.

Secondly, "The Chase" has a huge advantage as a domestic comedy film.

It is just a coincidence that this year's Lunar New Year holiday has only two strong domestic comedy films - "Forbidden City Cop" and "The Chase", and the rest of the domestic comedy films are not worth mentioning.

And "Forbidden City Cop" is a recognized bad movie.

Moreover, when "The Manhunt" was released, "The Royal Cop" had already been released for more than 20 days.

Therefore, compared to "The Chase", "The Royal Cop" is not competitive at all.

Therefore, it can be said that the entire Lunar New Year holiday is dominated by the domestic comedy film "The Chase".

If you want to watch a domestic comedy movie, your only choice is "The Chase".

This gives "The Manhunt" a huge advantage.

In addition, the peers set off each other well.

Not to mention imported films, the Lunar New Year period has always been dominated by domestic films. No matter how strong Hollywood films are, they will definitely be three points weaker and become the choice of the second tier.

Among the domestic films, the ones that can be proud of are "The Besieged City", "Get Out 2" and "The Massacre".

Let’s talk about “The Massacre” first.

First of all, this subject matter is not suitable for watching during the Lunar New Year holiday when the whole family is having fun.

The key point is that Lu Xiaojian is too self-righteous. He ruined a good subject and found excuses for war criminals. He was criticized by many people. To paraphrase a film critic, "We don't need such calmness. It's much worse than expected. It doesn't give the feeling of a city at all. The field of view is too small, and the plot is stiff and scattered. I'm really disappointed. Lu Xiaojian is crazy!"

It can be said that the reputation of "The Massacre" has completely collapsed.

Plus it was released relatively early.

“The Massacre” poses no threat to “The Hunt.”

Let’s talk about “Get Out 2”.

It has to be said that in order to make money, Wang Bin and others are really sincere.

They spent hundreds of millions of dollars to hire Shang Ge, and filmed in Siam, trying to disguise it as an international blockbuster.

The male and female protagonists Ji Zhaode and Zhang Zhiwei also worked very hard in "Escape 2".

Especially Zhang Zhiwei.

Especially the last few key scenes where she jumped out of a car on the streets of Siam, drove a motorcycle on the train, and chased the train by helicopter. The risk factor was extremely high, and she did it all herself, which was very exciting.

But this cannot cover up the failures in "Get Out 2".

For example, the final battle between Shang Ge and 1VS4 is far less exciting than the 1VS4 between Xu Kai and 1VS4 in "Escape" - not only because Shang Ge's skills are far inferior to Xu Kai's, but also because the action scenes in China and the West are very different.

For example, there is no super exciting action shot of jumping 8 meters in "Get Out 2" as in "Get Out".

It's also like the second young male lead in "Escape 2" and the relative Ren Lili, who seemed to be just a supporting role throughout the whole show and had no sense of existence at all.

In short, "Get Out 2" is not even a little bit worse than "Get Out".

The only drama that can rival "The Chase" is "The Besieged City" starring Zhen Yuzhou.

"The Fortress Besieged" has a smooth story, twists and turns in the plot, emotional performances, noble feelings and simple touches. These are what previous blockbusters that have been criticized have attempted to do but failed to do, so that many viewers were not moved by the tragedy of the plot, but shed tears because of the love between father and son (daughter), friendship, teacher and student, and lover.

But it may be because Xu Kai is more popular than Zhen Yuzhou, or it may be because of the advantage of the subject matter.

After several days of head-on competition between "The Manhunt" and "The Besieged", "The Manhunt" was ultimately the winner.

As a result, the film won one step at a time, and then another. "The Hunt" slowly began to take the lead...
