Chapter 2

As darkness deepened, the moon, like a pale white circle, hung opposite the sun, its soft, orange-tinged light casting an overly beautiful, unreal glow over the world.

The moment the system alarm sounded, Lu Shizhen almost instinctively ran towards the direction where Xu Shiyue was falling.

But she hadn't fully adapted to having legs yet. Her left leg tripped over her right, and she fell to the ground, becoming Xu Shiyue's cushion.

An even greater pain than the pain of rolling off the bed struck her tailbone. It was the first time Lu Shizhen had ever felt pain in that area, and she couldn't help but furrow her brows and grimace.

This feeling is so painful.

The hazy sunset cast a distorted light on Lu Shizhen's vision, which was contorted into a line due to pain, making the world seem unreal.

The damp smell of earth enveloped her, and amidst the pain, Lu Shizhen caught a whiff of something different.

The scent was like crushed rose petals, not strong, but just right for one person to smell, bringing them back to their senses.

The pain was slowly subsiding, and Lu Shizhen tried to open her eyes.

Perhaps the night wind was too strong, because the eyes that had just opened blinked twice unnaturally.

Pitch black, and dull.

Long, soft, black hair cascaded down from Lu Shizhen's gradually clearing gaze, thick and curly, forming a net that enveloped her.

The girl she had just glimpsed from afar was now right in front of her, inches away.

The sun gradually set, and the wind, carrying the damp scent of soil, brushed against Lu Shizhen's calves.

Lu Shizhen's legs had been numb since she was a child, and this was the first time she had ever experienced the feeling of contact with someone.

The feeling was incredibly strange. The sensation of the fabric overlapped with the temperature of her skin, and the extremely close proximity allowed her to clearly feel Xu Shiyue's body temperature transmitted through the fabric, as well as the delicate softness of her calves that weren't covered by the fabric.

She didn't know how to describe her feelings at that moment; all she could hear was her heart pounding in her chest.

At that moment, a shadow slowly crept up one side of Lu Shizhen's face.

Xu Shiyue's fingers, stained with rose juice, slowly approached the face below her gaze, their coolness penetrating her skin.

She couldn't see and could only determine her situation by groping around.

This situation creates a strange illusion of eye contact.

Xu Shiyue "looked" at Lu Shizhen, who was pinned beneath her. Her raven-feather-like eyelashes spread out in Lu Shizhen's line of sight, her unfocused eyes hiding behind them, blinking slowly and dullly, revealing an innocent look.

Like a little deer that has wandered into a rose forest.

Lu Shizhen looked at Xu Shiyue's slowly probing fingers and instantly realized what was about to happen, but then she stopped moving.

As if afraid that her movements would startle the little deer, Lu Shizhen watched as the finger carefully and cautiously landed on her lips.

The night wind was chilly, and the warm breath couldn't warm the fingers on my lips.

Instead, his soft fingertips pressed unabashedly against the girl's lips, moving almost imperceptibly, creating a subtle and unsettling feeling.

The person she had cried out to her best friend in the original world, wanting to hug and comfort her, was now tracing her lips with his finger.

That slender little finger lightly touched her lips, her breath enveloping them, giving them her own warmth in the cool twilight.

The girl's dark eyes flickered erratically, her rapid heartbeat filled with helplessness and uncertainty, until Xu Shiyue's voice rang out, easing her confusion: "Lu Shizhen."

The voice was somewhat similar to what Lu Shizhen had imagined while reading the text, yet it was also quite different.

It was deserted and quiet, exuding a sense of distance even colder than the evening breeze, and there seemed to be some confusion in the slightly furrowed brows.

Lu Shizhen opened her mouth, then responded a beat late, "Yes, it's me."

As the response fell, Lu Shizhen clearly felt the hand that had been on her lips pause for a moment, and then something was placed in her hand, and the weight on her body was suddenly removed.

Xu Shiyue's voice was even colder than before, filled with a sense of detachment: "These are the roses I found. If you think they're acceptable, please accept them."

After saying that, Lu Shizhen felt the weight that had been pressing down on her being removed.

The satin skirt swept past her legs without a second thought, the chill spreading and the slight warmth that had been built between them vanishing in the wind.

Xu Shiyue didn't stop, and walked away in the direction the wind was blowing without looking back.

The rain a few days ago had left the path through the rose garden damp, the dampness seeping into her heels with each sip.

The girl's steps remained steady and slow, as if an elegance ingrained in her bones, or a cautious, tentative exploration.

It's really hard to imagine how Xu Shiyue, who lost her eyesight, managed to get here all by herself.

The already fragile rose was battered and torn by the fall; the untreated rose, with its barbs, throbbed dully in my palm.

Lu Shizhen knew that these flowers obviously wouldn't move the original owner, but would instead make it easier for her to do what Xu Shiyue wanted to do next.

But she is not the original owner of this body.

The rose trembled slightly in the girl's hand as Lu Shizhen awkwardly propped herself up.

Just as she was about to help Xu Shiyue up, the system, as if it had crashed, suddenly sounded in her mind: [Xu Shiyue's body temperature has been detected to be rising continuously. The probability of her fainting due to fever is 99.99%]

Lu Shizhen was slightly taken aback.

The next second, Xu Shiyue's back was like a broken rose, suddenly collapsing on the way back.

The incandescent light reflected in the room as the medicine dripped silently and orderly through the IV tubing.

The roses, arranged silently in a vase with gold-thread carvings, seemed oblivious to the somewhat tense atmosphere in the room.

"Miss Xu's health was already poor, and she caught a chill tonight. Her body couldn't take it, and she suddenly developed a fever." The family doctor helped secure the IV line for the unconscious Xu Shiyue and said to Lu Shizhen, "Don't worry, Miss, as long as you receive IV treatment, the fever will subside and you'll be fine."

"Mm." Lu Shizhen nodded, tilted her head slightly, and casually glanced at Xu Shiyue.

The hanging medicine bags reflected the light, quietly and slowly delivering the medicine into the girl's body.

The exposed arm showed no trace of veins; under the light, all that remained was its paleness.

Lu Shizhen remembered that she had just picked Xu Shiyue up from the ground.

The autumn wind was bleak and disorderly, as if it wanted to devour people's body heat in exchange for warmth.

Lu Shizhen lifted Xu Shiyue off the ground with ease, without any effort.

Her skin, which had been cold just moments before, was now burning hot against her arm, and the girl's pale face was flushed with an unusual red.

Lu Shizhen struggled to walk, and Xu Shiyue in her arms was like a piece of paper that could be blown away by the wind at any moment. She was afraid that if she walked even a little faster, Xu Shiyue would fall apart from the bumps.

If it weren't for the original owner of this body, would she have ended up like this?

"And also..."

Lu Shizhen's thoughts hadn't drifted far when the doctor's words pulled her back to reality.

However, the doctor seemed to be hesitating about something, and stopped halfway through his sentence.

Then Lu Shizhen clearly saw him take a deep breath, as if he had made a decision, and said, "Miss Xu's health is not good to begin with. The aftereffects of the fire she experienced a few months ago have not been fully healed, and her body is severely depleted. Miss, you brought Miss Xu home, you must hope that Miss Xu can stay by your side for longer, right? It would be better for her to receive proper treatment and recuperation."

The doctor's voice carried a firm yet gentle tone. He spoke tactfully, but anyone with discerning eyes could tell that he was expressing his opposition to what Lu Shizhen had previously instructed him to do.

Although good doctors are hard to find, you should still listen to your doctor's advice when seeking treatment.

However, faced with such a powerful employer who did not allow others to interfere with his decisions, none of the doctors who had worked for this company dared to say such a thing.

Lu Shizhen sat in the chair, her eyes slightly narrowed.

When the servants saw Lu Shizhen's expression, they sensed danger and the surroundings fell silent instantly. The night breeze flowed into the large room, and the temperature dropped even further.

Lu Shizhen remembered; the doctor's name was Qin Wen.

Xu Shiyue was able to recover her eyesight under the original owner's perverted torment not only because her father's personal assistant risked his image to disguise himself and sneak into the original owner's home to deliver medicine to her, but also because of the secret assistance of Dr. Qin, who secretly fell in love with her.

It seems that the original owner deliberately instructed the family doctor not to completely cure Xu Shiyue in order to better control her.

No wonder Xu Shiyue's eyes didn't heal for a long time in the original text.

They forcibly abducted and detained the patient.

Using improper means to possess minors.

Intentionally delaying treatment in order to control the illness.

If you don't die, who will?

Lu Shizhen mentally spat at the original owner's tombstone again.

Everyone in the room was waiting for a response; the surroundings were so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Just as the housekeeper was secretly calculating where to find the next family doctor, Lu Shizhen's voice rang out.

The girl leaned back in her chair with her legs crossed, looking somewhat nonchalant.

She looked at Qin Wen standing opposite her and nodded thoughtfully: "Well, let's do it your way."

Lu Shizhen's voice was flat and unusually calm.

Qin Wen was clearly surprised by her quick agreement this time, and was momentarily stunned, even forgetting to nod in response.

Lu Shizhen, mindful of maintaining the original owner's persona, tilted her head back, raised an eyebrow, and asked, "What are you dissatisfied with?"

"No." Qin Wen realized what was happening and immediately shook his head.

Then, he quickly packed his things, displaying perfect efficiency: "I'll go and make a plan for Miss Xu's next treatment. Don't worry, Miss, I will definitely take good care of Miss Xu's health!"

"Mm." Lu Shizhen nodded; she still trusted this person who stood on the side of the main characters.

The servants in the house all knew the original owner's intentions towards Xu Shiyue. As Qin Wen left with his large medicine box, the servants in the room also left one by one.

The window frames divide the outdoor sky into pieces, and the full moon, like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle, hangs high in the upper right corner.

Moonlight streamed through the silk, and Xu Shiyue lay in the center of this light.

The original owner was truly willing to spend money on Xu Shiyue; valuable silks were spread all over her bedside like casually picked-up pieces of paper.

Her long, curly hair gently clung to her face, the wavy curves softening the light. Combined with the white silk piled around her, just by lying there, a hazy glow enveloped her, making her look as clean and beautiful as the moon transformed into human form.

The original owner truly lived up to his reputation as the most insane of the insane, the king of perverts, yet he still possessed considerable artistic taste.

Xu Shiyue deserves things like this.

As Lu Shizhen sat there lost in thought, an alarm suddenly sounded in her ear: [A risk of assimilation of the original owner has been detected. Please immediately cease your dangerous thoughts.]

The little ball that Lu Shizhen had almost forgotten about suddenly jumped back in front of her, flashing as a warning of the recognition of the original owner that had just flashed through her mind.

Whether it was anger at having her privacy violated or guilt at acknowledging someone she had always despised, Lu Shizhen glanced at the little ball.

She felt this was not a safe place to talk, so she stood up from her chair, turned around, and left.

The door slammed shut, and Xu Shiyue's room fell completely silent.

The full moon gazed through the window at the person sleeping in the bed. The thick eyelashes trembled slightly in the light before slowly opening.

Her long hair rustled against the pillow, and the girl's gaze turned calmly and lifelessly toward the door.

Those dark pupils were covered with a layer of gray mist, nakedly filled with disgust and disdain.

Xu Shiyue woke up.

She had been awake for a while.

The IV bag shook violently a few times, and the thin tube was carelessly tossed to the ground.

Blood seeped onto the white medical tape, then slowly flowed downwards, the scarlet blood clinging to the girl's pale fingers.

Lu Shizhen had one thing in mind.

The fact that Xu Shiyue's eyes did not recover in the original story is not just a problem of the original owner.
