Chapter 39

The sun had already sunk below the horizon, and the world fell silent as night fell.

The car that came to pick up Lu Shi'en slowly stopped in front of the villa, but the person standing at the door showed no intention of getting in the car and leaving.

Xu Shiyue unintentionally created a huge gap with Lu Shien, which dealt a heavy blow to her strong possessiveness.

How could she tolerate her sister, whom she had just declared her ownership of, obeying someone else's orders? She stomped her foot angrily: "What did you say! What right do you have to order my sister to your room!"

"You, you, you don't think you can boss my sister around just because you saved her!" Lu Shi'en shouted angrily, repeating "you" several times, and urgently commanded, "You, you, you apologize to my sister right now!"

Xu Shiyue wasn't buying it and retorted in a deep voice, "Why should I apologize?"

Compared to Lu Shien's exasperation, Xu Shiyue's indifference was particularly evident in her voice.

She didn't really know why she did this, why she suddenly stopped on the stairs, and why she offered to tutor Lu Shizhen at this moment.

It was as if it were to prove something.

But what proof does she have of Lu Shizhen to offer Lu Shien?

Xu Shiyue couldn't understand it.

She rarely acts so impulsively.

If this behavior were simply categorized as revenge after being annoyed, Xu Shiyue felt it was too hasty.

Leng Yue kept the two confronting each other at a considerable distance, creating an extremely tense atmosphere in the room.

Lu Shi'en was no match for Xu Shiyue at all. She easily provoked him with her retorts, and his eyes turned red as he spoke.

Seeing that Lu Shien was about to lose her temper, Lu Shizhen immediately stopped her and explained, "Shien, Xu Shiyue asked me to go to her room to tutor me. This was arranged by Mom. If you don't believe me, you can ask Mom."

Upon hearing this, the little girl looked at Lu Shizhen with reddened eyes.

She was somewhat skeptical, yet also unwilling to give up, and offered, "I can tutor my sister too. I'm already studying high school textbooks on my own."

Lu Shizhen chuckled as she listened, her voice tinged with helplessness and bitterness.

She didn't think Lu Shien was daydreaming; rather, she felt that Lu Shien might actually be able to tutor her given her current level of knowledge.

"Alright, Miss Shi'en, the car is here." Aunt Sun stepped forward again when the situation eased, bringing up Lu Shizhen's weakness for Lu Shi'en, "It's chilly at night, Miss, you're not dressed warmly enough, it wouldn't be good if you caught a cold."

Upon hearing this, Lu Shi'en immediately looked down at Lu Shizhen's clothes, nodded, and said without further delay, "Then I'll be going, sister."

"Okay, be careful on the road." Lu Shizhen nodded. Although she didn't have any real feelings for her younger sister, she still remembered how much the original owner of this body doted on her, so she reached out and ruffled her hair.

Lu Shi'en paused for a moment as soon as he put his feet, clad in brown-black leather shoes, into the car.

The little girl stared at Lu Shizhen standing outside the car, blinked twice, and then her eyes, which had been red just moments before, immediately broke into a smile: "Goodbye, sister!"

Lu Shizhen was taken aback, wondering why the child had suddenly become so cheerful. She simply assumed it was just a child's temper, quick to turn bad and quick to get better, and waved goodbye to her.

The black car gradually disappeared into the night, its headlights trailing the ground and vanishing completely around a corner.

After seeing Lu Shien off, Lu Shizhen felt a great sense of relief. She turned to look at the stairwell and saw that Xu Shiyue, who had been standing there just moments before, was gone.

Lu Shizhen suddenly looked up at the living room clock.

She didn't know when Xu Shiyue started counting down the ten minutes, but she felt that Xu Shiyue was in a bad mood today. The boulder of deducting points was towering over her head, pushing her upstairs.

She went back to her room, grabbed her bag, straightened her clothes, and knocked on Xu Shiyue's door: "Teacher Xu, I'm here."

"Come in," Xu Shiyue responded from inside the room.

The light from the hallway streamed into the room as the door opened, illuminating the corner near the entrance.

The room was completely dark, with no lights on, and you could barely make out a silhouette.

The rectangular window frames the moonlight behind the osmanthus tree, letting it gently spill into the room.

Xu Shiyue sat under that beam of moonlight.

Lu Shizhen stood at the door like that.

Looking at it, I couldn't help but breathe a little lighter.

She suddenly felt a little nervous, gripped the canvas bag in her hand, and said, "Um... would you mind if I turned on a light?"

"I don't mind," Xu Shiyue replied calmly.

She listened to Lu Shizhen's footsteps as she approached and said to her, "We're a little behind schedule. We'll start early today. After we finish explaining curvilinear motion, you can do the homework here."

“Okay.” Lu Shizhen’s attitude was extremely proper, and she opened the book to the corresponding chapter.

The night was still, and the dry leaves outside the window rustled in the wind, making an excessively chaotic sound.

Xu Shiyue's voice carried a hint of moonlight's deep tone, clear and gentle, reaching Lu Shizhen's ears, while the annoying sounds outside the window suddenly drifted away.

Whether it was because of her library experience or because she had truly figured it out, Lu Shizhen showed no signs of wanting to sleep throughout the entire session.

She can keep up with Xu Shiyue's explanations of the knowledge points, and sometimes she can even apply what she has learned to other situations.

"You listened very attentively tonight." Xu Shiyue put down her pen, indicating that she had finished explaining the key points.

Lu Shizhen also experienced that long-lost sense of satisfaction after acquiring knowledge, and couldn't help but lean back in her chair, saying proudly, "I'm getting into the swing of things."

The girl's voice was cheerful and lively, and her figure swayed back and forth in Xu Shiyue's sight. She didn't sit properly at all, let alone have a proper posture.

The scent of roses wafted in the air as Xu Shiyue watched silently, her thin lips pressed into a thin line.

She disliked things that lacked rules, and her mood was strangely not good today. However, the feeling of disgust she expected didn't surge up, and she didn't know where her sharp aggression towards Lu Shien had sunk to.

That's really strange.

Xu Shiyue frowned slightly, raised her hand and tapped the workbook in front of Lu Shizhen, reminding her, "Finish the exercises before going back to your room."

“Okay.” Lu Shizhen nodded like a good student.

The moonlight swayed, and the sound of the pen slicing across the paper mingled with the rustling of branches outside the window.

Aunt Sun carefully pushed open the door with the milk in her hand and saw the girls standing side by side, their backs to each other.

The room lights brought them together, and their soft loungewear softened the sense of distance between them.

Even though the two of them didn't interact at all, they looked harmonious and beautiful from a distance.

Aunt Sun couldn't remember when she had ever seen her young lady like this before.

It seems that after Miss Xu arrived, most of their young lady's terrifying and sinister aura dissipated, and light could now penetrate.

That's truly rare.

Aunt Sun thought for a moment, feeling a little annoyed at her past coldness towards Xu Shiyue, and didn't go in to disturb her again.

She took a picture and sent it to Cheng Meiyan, who had called her over to check on the two of them. Then she quietly closed the door and used herself as an excuse to take the milk away.

As if she heard a faint sound, Lu Shizhen paused for a moment while holding the pen.

But when I turned to look at the door, the room was quiet and there seemed to be no one else there.

You must have been so engrossed in doing your homework that you misheard.

Lu Shizhen thought to herself, feeling a sense of accomplishment as she watched her do her homework.

There weren't many corrections in red pen, and I even managed to get the last two challenging questions right.

Overjoyed and satisfied, Lu Shizhen was about to boast to Xu Shiyue about her learning achievements when she suddenly stopped.

Xu Shiyue was still reading.

Her hand slowly roamed over the seemingly all-white book, quietly feeling the words with her fingers.

This silence and calm made everything around her quiet down, and even Lu Shizhen dared not breathe too much.

I didn't want to break the silence of this moment, and I didn't want to disturb her.

Lu Shizhen secretly took out the Braille self-study book she bought from the bookstore from her bag.

After a night of daydreaming, Qiuqiu finally found a chance to speak to Lu Shizhen: "Wow, host, are you really going to teach yourself Braille?"

Lu Shizhen slowly turned to the first page of the book: "Yes."

Qiuqiu asked, puzzled, "Why, host?"

Lu Shizhen

He said, "Just consider this as me laying the groundwork for that gift I'm preparing for Xu Shiyue."

"But there's no need to go through all that trouble of building a foundation. Can't we just translate it online and copy it?" Qiuqiu was still puzzled. It thought Lu Shizhen hadn't planned things out properly and reminded her, "Xu Shiyue will regain her sight eventually, so you won't need to use what you've learned now. Isn't this a waste of time?"

“But at least I can use it right now.” Lu Shizhen disagreed. “Why do I have to think that something is useful to my mission before I do it? There’s nothing wrong with learning something if I’m interested. I like to live in the moment.”

Lu Shizhen was already used to fighting for her life; every extra second she lived was a bonus.

She had already considered this; she couldn't possibly focus solely on the mission, constantly clinging to Xu Shiyue to curry favor. Since the Main God could use her to complete world-line missions, why couldn't she use the Main God to create conditions for her and do something she could?

She not only has to learn Braille, but also horseback riding.

They even want to continue their dreams from their original world.

Live well.

Living well is not a waste of time.

"And haven't you heard the saying that playing games and reading extracurricular books are not a waste of time? It's when you feel sorry for me, or when I'm anxious because I'm not going to finish my tasks, that's a waste of time."

Lu Shizhen said this.

As if she had deliberately left artificial intelligence with a century-old problem, she then lowered her head again to look at the book she had opened.

The room returned to silence, and the little ball's wings fluttered gently in the air.

It's as if its thoughts are stuck right now.

In Qiuqiu's system concept, useless things increase the burden and should be deleted immediately.

Humans cannot delete things; they lack the technological level to do so. Therefore, they weigh the pros and cons based on value and try to waste as little time as possible on useless tasks.

Qiuqiu felt that if it calculated this matter according to human thinking, the result would be fine.

But its host told it that it wasn't like that.

Why is it that even though it's not the optimal solution, it's not a waste of time?

Why is it that doing things that waste time isn't actually wasting time?

Why is Lu Shizhen's host different from the ones in the book cases it saw?

The night deepened further, and thick ink flowed slowly through the sky, making even breathing become lighter.

I don't know if Braille is harder than physics, or if I just used up too many brain cells dealing with all sorts of things today.

As Lu Shizhen studied, her face once again pressed intimately against the open book.

"Buzz buzz buzz..."

The phone was pressed against the table, and the vibration sound exploded right next to Lu Shizhen's ear.

The girl sat up abruptly from the table, her eyes filled with terror.

She stared at her phone on the table, wondering where the Braille practice paper that had been under the phone had gone. Then she turned her head and saw that familiar face looking at her calmly and silently.

Lu Shizhen froze.

Seemingly realizing that the person she was watching had woken up, Xu Shiyue let out a soft breath.

Her raven-feather-like eyelashes lifted little by little, her eyes, veiled in a thin mist, were filled with solitude.

"Why didn't you look sleepy when I was listening to your sister talk at the dinner table?"

Xu Shiyue asked, slowly placing her arms on the table and closing the distance between herself and Lu Shizhen: "Or do you need someone to call you 'sister'?"
