Lu Shizhen has experienced many kinds of death.
Growing up in a hospital, how could I not have witnessed death?
But when Qiuqiu's head slumped limply in Lu Shizhen's hand, she still felt a jolt.
An immense grief, like a colossal mountain, crashed down on her head. Qiuqiu finished her farewell words in broken sentences, and then there was no more response.
The space was eerily quiet. Lu Shizhen sat motionless on the ground, holding Qiuqiu in her arms.
She never imagined that Qiuqiu would leave her one day.
Over the years, Qiuqiu has followed her around, traveling all over the country.
The shadow of the kitten wagging its tail overlapped with her own, and two portions of food dangled from her wrist.
Lu Shizhen always felt that she was different from Qiuqiu's previous hosts, and that she would stay with Qiuqiu for a very long time.
She couldn't even imagine how she would separate from Qiuqiu.
How could we possibly separate?
She has so many points, she can live for a very, very long time.
Alternatively, if she runs out of points to extend her lifespan in a few thousand or hundred years, she can simply go back to the system and work for the main god.
She won't leave Qiuqiu.
No...
But when the ending didn't come, everyone thought that things would continue like this forever.
Qiuqiu's past had no host, and she became one of the "many hosts" who left with Qiuqiu.
One night, she suddenly thought that she and Qiuqiu would one day be separated by death, but she never expected that the one who would die would be the immortal one.
This completely unexpected event caught Lu Shizhen completely off guard, and tears streamed down her bewildered eyes.
The silent weeping lowered the atmosphere of the entire space to an extreme level. Xu Shiyue stood silently to the side, feeling very uncomfortable.
From the moment she saw the little ball floating next to Lu Shizhen, she knew that this little guy had been with Lu Shizhen for a very, very long time, longer than she had been.
When they met again, the ball turned into a Siamese cat with a painted face.
With its tail wagging, it's clumsy and not very smart, and its pretense is unconvincing.
But just like herself, it was an irreplaceable presence in Lu Shizhen's life.
There is more than just love in the world, and the intersection of emotions is not limited to people.
Xu Shiyue's lips were slightly parted, and even her light breaths became shallow.
She stared at the motionless figure, thinking to herself what she could say to persuade Lu Shizhen.
But in the face of death, words seem so inadequate.
Every word of comfort felt like a repeated lash against the heart, reminding the other person of the fact that an important life had already passed away.
Xu Shiyue lowered her eyes, her gaze deep and dark, her lips slightly parted, opening and closing repeatedly.
Just then, footsteps sounded in the distance. After receiving the message from Xu Shiyue, Shen Yanxing rushed over: "Shiyue, suddenly..."
But before she could finish speaking, she stopped abruptly and rushed to Lu Shi'en, who had collapsed on the ground: "Xiao En, what happened to Xiao En?"
Xu Shiyue quickly composed herself without making a sound, and calmly said to the somewhat flustered Shen Yanxing, "That thing just came here using her body as a medium."
"What? How could this happen so suddenly?" Shen Yanxing seemed to know more than Lu Shien, and her surprise did not reveal any doubt about Xu Shiyue's cryptic expression.
"I'll tell you the details later." Xu Shiyue calmed Shen Yanxing down and instructed, "The most urgent thing now is to take Lu Shien to the hospital for a comprehensive check-up to rule out any problems."
“Yes, you’re right.” Shen Yanxing nodded and knelt down beside Lu Shien without pausing.
Xu Shiyue looked at it and then planned, "So from now on, completely seal off this place, keep it as it is, and keep the power supply on. No one can come in without my permission."
"I understand, don't worry, I will take care of everything."
Perhaps sensing Lu Shien's steady breathing and heartbeat, Shen Yanxing's voice was a bit calmer than when he first arrived.
She answered Xu Shiyue, and then swiftly picked Lu Shien up in her arms: "I'll be going now, I'll contact you later."
After saying that, Shen Yanxing carried Lu Shien away.
The little girl's skirt cast a swaying shadow on the wall, and footsteps approached from afar and then receded again.
Shen Yanxing didn't even stay in this place for half a minute; he came in a hurry and then left in a hurry as well.
The place where the wind couldn't get in returned to silence.
Xu Shiyue turned her head to look, but what had just happened seemed to have never happened in Lu Shizhen's world. She was still sitting there, motionless and silent.
It's so small, it looks like it would break at the slightest touch.
Xu Shiyue let out a deep breath, squatted down next to Lu Shizhen, and said gently to her, "Shizhen, didn't Qiuqiu say it was cold? Let's take it to a warmer place."
Sunlight dripped dully, golden light onto Lu Shizhen's half-lowered eyelashes.
Xu Shiyue's words elicited a response from Lu Shizhen. She looked up at Xu Shiyue, then at the kitten nestled in her arms.
The cat image redeemed from the system store has not disappeared. Its fur is glossy and shiny in the sunlight, and it looks fresh and vivid without any trace of death.
Yes, it was just telling itself that it was cold.
This place is definitely not warm enough; its limbs are quite stiff from the cold.
She needs to take Qiuqiu to a warmer place.
But where is the warmest place?
South, tropical islands... or the African equator?
Lu Shizhen's thoughts were wandering aimlessly when a pair of hands touched the back of her hand.
A shadow blocked the glaring sunlight, gently bestowing a layer of warm comfort upon her.
Xu Shiyue asked softly, "Would you like to come home with me?"
It was a longing for belonging, a place where there was enough warmth.
There's also the little bed that Aunt Sun just finished making yesterday, which Qiuqiu really loves.
Lu Shizhen nodded in realization, and with the help of Xu Shiyue's outstretched hand, she managed to stand up: "Then let's go home together."
The courtyard in spring is covered with green grass, and the azure sky blends with the tender green of the grass, like a tranquil painting.
However, the wind didn't quite cooperate with the quiet. The orange-red frisbee flew across the blue and green into the distance, and was then caught by a dog that suddenly flew out.
It wasn't lunchtime yet, and neither Lu Shizhen nor Xu Shiyue were there. Yuanzi pestered the family's servants to play frisbee.
Whether it was a case of the dog losing interest quickly or something else, it stopped chasing the frisbee halfway through the third time the servant helped it throw it.
The roses climbing all over the courtyard wall completely obscured the view outside the courtyard, and when the wind blew, you could vaguely see something black flitting by.
Xu Shiyue and Lu Shizhen have returned.
Yuanzi stood on the grass for a while until she saw the car that had carried her two owners away that morning drive in, then she ran over like a shot.
Its thick tail wagged wildly, as always, warmly welcoming its returning masters.
This time, however, only Xu Shiyue's hand landed on Yuanzi's head, not Lu Shizhen's.
Yuanzi looked at Lu Shizhen, who was getting out of the car, with some confusion. She noticed that Lu Shizhen didn't seem as lively and enthusiastic as before. She seemed to have sensed something, but she didn't quite understand. So she wagged her tail and took the initiative to rub against Yuanzi's hand, as if she was completing her daily homecoming ritual on her own, or as if she was comforting Lu Shizhen.
It didn't want its owner to be so dejected.
This made it feel less than happy.
Without stopping, the group entered the villa from the courtyard. Qiuqiu had already been taken from Lu Shizhen's arms by Xu Shiyue.
Yuanzi looked up at the kitten lying in its owner's arms, her eyes filled with envy. She also wanted to find this somewhat clever old friend to play with. So she followed Xu Shiyue to the room where it and Qiuqiu were.
But its owner didn't seem to want them to play, and its old friend didn't pay much attention to it either, staying asleep the whole time.
The mat that Aunt Sun made yesterday was bathed in the best sunlight, and a newly made quilt was placed on top of it.
"Waaah..." Yuanzi looked at Xu Shiyue, who had witnessed everything last night, and sobbed as she reminded her that it had been ignored.
Upon hearing the sound, Xu Shiyue immediately stopped in her tracks.
She looked down at the oblivious dog below, then, as if remembering something, crouched down beside it: "Qiuqiu is just asleep. You need to eat properly, okay?"
The well-defined bones of the hand rested on the platinum-colored short velvet, each touch exuding endless tenderness.
Yuanzi lay on the ground, looking at Xu Shiyue with her black grape-like eyes. As if she could understand, she let out two small sobs.
"Good boy." Xu Shiyue patted Yuanzi's head again.
This time she used a bit more force, just like when Lu Shizhen usually rubbed it.
Before they knew it, it was lunchtime for Yuanzi and Qiuqiu.
Just as Xu Shiyue was about to leave, she took Qiuqiu's lunch from the maid's hand and only allowed her to put the lunch down for Yuanzi.
The door closed again as Xu Shiyue left. Yuanzi looked at the only lunch in the room that belonged to her, nudged it with her nose to Qiuqiu's side, and ate the largest piece of chicken breast in one bite.
It seems like it's for showing off, but it doesn't seem like that's the case either.
Yuanzi chewed exaggeratedly, but her thick-skinned face didn't receive Qiuqiu's meow punch for a long time.
The shadow cast on the ground remained a solitary one, and the cat lying on the bed never opened its eyes to look at it.
Yuanzi spat out the chicken breast that was hidden in its mouth and spat it out next to Qiuqiu without reservation. As if it was worried that Qiuqiu would not eat it, Yuanzi nudged it with its nose and stuck out its wet tongue to Qiuqiu's neck, wetting its entire fur.
But Qiuqiu didn't react at all.
He didn't move, nor did he open his eyes.
Even the smartest dog can't seem to understand death; it just thinks its old friend is asleep.
After all, that's what its owner just said, isn't it?
Its owner is so kind, he would never lie to it.
The huge shadow reflected on the ground slowly lowered, and Yuanzi carefully placed her head on Qiuqiu's small bed.
Those dark, bright eyes stared unblinkingly at the kitten lying in the blanket, its slightly lowered brows filled with confusion.
But when will it wake up?
It has ignored it for five minutes now.
Xu Shiyue hadn't felt the world was so quiet in a long time. The bright sunlight fell into her vision, and everything around her was as tranquil as an exquisite painting.
She walked out of the pet room and looked into the living room, but she didn't see Lu Shizhen.
She suddenly felt a little nervous, and looking at Aunt Sun who was bringing over the fruit, she asked, "Aunt Sun, have you seen Sixteen?"
Aunt Sun said unhurriedly, "Miss Sixteen? I just saw her answer a phone call at the door, it seemed to be about work, and she stopped immediately. She hasn't come in yet."
"I understand." Xu Shiyue nodded, paused for a moment, and walked towards the door.
A gentle spring breeze swept through the porch as the door was pushed open, and layers of greenery blanketed the distant landscape.
A thin figure sat on the steps of the small porch, with a large white foam box next to him.
Xu Shiyue paused for a moment, then sat down next to Lu Shizhen and asked softly, "What is this?"
“Starch sausage,” Lu Shizhen replied calmly. “I promised Qiuqiu that I would make 99 starch sausage flowers for her when she returned from the main system.”
Her soft breaths vanished into the air with the wind. Lu Shizhen raised her hand and touched the box beside her. She stared at the thing for a long time without blinking before saying in a hoarse voice, "I'm too late. It won't be able to eat it."
