Chapter 48

The autumn wind was chilly in the evening, and the girl's skirt billowed slightly in the breeze.

The sun had not yet completely sunk below the horizon, so the lights in the entryway were not very bright.

Xu Shiyue stood there in the light, with only Yuanzi by her side.

She could understand jealousy, but she couldn't understand the reason that made her jealous.

It was something that wasn't particularly important, yet it pierced a hole in her balance.

She had never wanted to see anything or anything so clearly before.

Xu Shiyue has been blind for a long time, so long that she has even gotten used to not using her eyes to see.

The remaining four senses could completely replace her lack of sight. In fact, she didn't even hope to see in the first place. She fully accepted her blindness and didn't struggle with it.

But today, she suddenly really wanted to see it.

I want to see the painting Lu Shizhen hangs in her home, and I want to see Lu Shizhen try on that dress.

This feeling was unprecedented, like a fire, enveloped by jealousy, swirling around her eyes layer by layer, as if to burn her.

Loneliness loomed over her.

Wanting something means not having it, and so does jealousy.

She couldn't see anything; the blurry light blurred all the boundaries around her into indistinct shadows.

The four people stood together in the living room, and Xu Shiyue could barely make out Lu Shizhen's tall figure.

The whole world was unclear to her, as if she had been abandoned in this bone-chilling night wind, leaving only jealousy.

The moon slowly climbed into the sky opposite the sun, and the night, like a fine net, enveloped the entire world.

Xu Shiyue didn't eat much for dinner today. After taking her medicine, she went back to her room.

She didn't turn on the light.

Only a single moonlight shone through the window onto her, bright and lonely.

Economics was as dry as ever; I misread two lines in a row while looking at it.

Xu Shiyue frowned, somewhat displeased.

In her mind, there was no reason to dwell on things that were already clear.

She already knew that the indescribable feelings that had been welling up in her heart these past few days were jealousy, but she still couldn't let go of the matter, or rather, the word.

They were jealous of those who could see Lu Shizhen's paintings.

They are jealous of what they see and will lavish praise upon it.

Why do all these things revolve around Lu Shizhen?

The person who persuaded me to undergo treatment was Lu Shizhen.

The person she wanted to see was Lu Shizhen.

Xu Shiyue is perceptive; she can quickly grasp and analyze a person's characteristics and weaknesses, and then strike at their Achilles' heel.

But she was also slow to react.

She suddenly realized that her feelings towards Lu Shizhen had long since changed from initial dislike and estrangement to a peaceful coexistence.

She even allowed this person to do things for her that she would absolutely not allow anyone else to touch.

Things were like a train that had derailed; they seemed to be getting out of control.

She unknowingly mixed other things into her use of this place, creating a chaotic mess that made her heart race.

The sound of fingers tapping rang out on the phone screen, and white earphones were inserted into the girl's ears.

Having already watched most of it, the twenty-four Billy movies began to play slowly under the moonlight.

A force was pushing her, making her desperately want to know if this Lu Shizhen was the same person who had harassed her and tricked her into coming here.

Or the same person.

The moonlit night is dotted with lonely stars, like a physics problem spread out on a table, vast, profound and unknowable.

The dim light cast the girl's silhouette onto the windowpane, her head bobbing gently as she rested her head on her hand.

The next second, the sound of the points system hitting the table rang out simultaneously.

"Thump."

+999

"...?!"

"

Whether it was from the pain of the fall or the unrealistic bonus, Lu Shizhen suddenly sat up from the table, her eyes wide open from her drowsy state.

"Soo soo soo... Master, this is a bonus!"

Qiuqiu's internal program seemed to be stuck, and it took her a long time to finish saying those five words.

Before it could fully process the notification from the points system, it felt its wings being pulled and its entire body being held uncontrollably in someone's hand.

The vibrations became exceptionally intense with each slap, leaving Qiuqiu dizzy and disoriented, feeling a sense of déjà vu.

She staggered out of Lu Shizhen's grasp once again, spinning around in the air, feeling quite aggrieved: "Host, why do you take pictures of me whether you're deducting points or adding points? We really aren't connected to the points system."

"But the points system added a thousand points to my account all at once!" Lu Shizhen could hardly believe her ears.

"It's nine hundred and ninety-nine, host," Qiuqiu corrected, perching on Lu Shizhen's head.

"Yes, yes, nine hundred and ninety-nine." Lu Shizhen nodded perfunctorily, her tone full of surprise. "But that's nine hundred and ninety-nine! Qiuqiu!"

"Yes, why is there such a large bonus so suddenly?" Qiuqiu was also a little confused.

Lu Shizhen: "Has Xu Shiyue gone mad?"

Qiuqiu looked disgusted: "Host."

Looking at the still stable world, Lu Shizhen also felt it was unlikely and deduced, "Then the system has gone mad?"

Qiuqiu's face showed even more disdain and dissatisfaction: "Host, can't you just accept this reality? Perhaps Xu Shiyue's doubts about you have been dispelled after seeing you pick her up and drop her off at school these past few days, always taking care of her?"

Lu Shizhen paused for a moment after hearing this, and felt that what Qiuqiu said made a lot of sense: "That's possible. I've been so good to her, even a stone should be moved by me."

“Yes.” Qiuqiu nodded, giving an example: “Look at Xu Shiyue reading that book Twenty-Four Billy last time, wasn’t it because she felt that the host was different from before?”

"Xu Shiyue sensed that you were kind to her, host, and that your doubts were dispelled, so she made a big leap in points, which is quite reasonable."

“That’s right.” Lu Shizhen nodded, a hint of pride slowly spreading across her face. “Looks like I’ve managed to keep this disguise working pretty well.”

“That’s right!” Qiuqiu nodded repeatedly in agreement, showering her with compliments, “As expected of Host Qiuqiu, Host is truly amazing. Today is simply a milestone day!”

Qiuqiu's flattery became increasingly skillful, and Lu Shizhen listened with a smug look in her eyes.

She reached for her phone and, for what seemed like the umpteenth time tonight, skillfully opened the photo album.

The dim background occupies most of the photo, with the white skirt overlapping the black skirt as if it were overhanging the boundary.

The figures in the painting, including Yuanzi, are upright with their hands hanging down at their sides, giving it a somewhat serious, oil painting feel.

This is her first photo with Xu Shiyue.

The person's face remained expressionless, surrounded by pure white, like the cold and pure white snow in winter, exuding a sense of distance.

However, if you zoom in and examine it closely, you can see that the corner of her lips on the side closest to Lu Shizhen is slightly upturned.

The wind blows through the withered yellow branches outside the window, and the shadows of the trees sway in front of the window, stirring the reflections on the window.

As Lu Shizhen watched, a slight smile crept onto her lips.

Yes, a milestone.

A month had passed since the last check-up, and Shen Cheng arrived at Lu Shizhen's house on Thursday as scheduled to conduct a follow-up check-up for Xu Shiyue.

As Qiuqiu reported to Lu Shizhen, Xu Shiyue's condition has improved significantly compared to the last examination, and the bruising that had lingered at the back of her head for so long has completely dissipated.

Shen Cheng looked at the report in her hand and nodded with satisfaction: "Miss Xu's recovery is much better than expected. Is your vision clearer than it was last month?"

Xu Shiyue nodded, "We can already see some color outlines."

"Hmm, that's pretty good. After all, the toxic substances in the thick smoke damaged some of the crystalline tissue, and it will take some time to recover." Shen Cheng said, looking at the treatment plan in her hand.

"Ms. Xu's recovery is going well. In the next stage of treatment, we're considering combining topical medication with other treatments. According to our team's current clinical research, this is the most helpful treatment for eye repair."

At this point, Chen Cheng paused for a moment.

She and Lu Shizhen exchanged a glance, and then she explained the drawbacks to Xu Shiyue: "Of course, if you use the medicine, Miss Xu needs to avoid light and heat and rest quietly. During that time, Miss Xu will be completely blind."

"Of course, we also recommend that the application time be too long, twelve hours a day, and the medicine should be applied before going to bed every night."

Lu Shizhen sat to the side listening, her gaze falling on Xu Shiyue who was sitting next to her.

She knew that Xu Shiyue's trust in her was not yet 100%. Although this method could heal her eyes faster, she would have to give up half a day of vision every day and be completely blind.

This is tantamount to putting oneself in a more dangerous situation.

So a few days ago, she discussed with Shen Cheng that Xu Shiyue should make her own decision, and asked Shen Cheng to prepare a prescription and bring it with her.

“I brought some medicine with me. Miss Xu can try it first and then decide whether to accept this treatment plan. This ointment is made entirely from medicinal herbs and will not have any side effects.” As she spoke, Shen Cheng took out the medicine she had prepared.

“Yes,” Lu Shizhen chimed in, trying to persuade Xu Shiyue.

Before she could even utter a word of advice, Xu Shiyue interrupted her, saying, "No need."

The voice was calm and emotionless, and the refusal was exceptionally decisive.

Lu Shizhen's heart skipped a beat, and she felt somewhat frustrated.

As expected, I still wasn't enough for her to let go...

But before Lu Shizhen could even feel her frustration, Xu Shiyue interrupted her with her next words: "I accept this treatment plan."

Lu Shizhen was surprised for a moment, and before she could react, she heard Xu Shiyue and Shen Cheng discussing, "However, I have to leave for another province tomorrow to participate in a band competition. I'm afraid it's not good to bring the medicine on stage. Can the treatment start next week?"

"Hiss..." Shen Cheng said with some distress, "I was just about to say that. I just received a notice this morning that I have to go abroad for a seminar the day after tomorrow and won't be back for ten days to half a month..."

In less than half a second, she immediately thought of a solution: "It's alright, I can prepare the medicine first, divide it into portions and give them to Miss Lu, then my family can apply the medicine to Miss Xu."

Xu Shiyue nodded slightly: "Okay, thank you."

Shen Cheng waved her hand, "This is all part of our duty as doctors, it's what we should do."

A gentle breeze drifted in through the open window, brushing against the ointment placed on the table.

A faint herbal scent, tinged with a slightly bitter aroma, filled the room, calming the mind.

Lu Shizhen was sitting in a chair with a smile on her face, celebrating with Qiuqiu in her heart that Xu Shiyue had successfully completed the next course of treatment, when she heard Chen Cheng calling out in her ear: "How are you feeling, Miss Lu?"

Lu Shizhen thought Shen Cheng was asking her about Xu Shiyue's treatment starting next week, so she replied, "Huh? I'm fine with that."

"That's good." Shen Cheng nodded.

For some reason, Lu Shizhen saw a sense of satisfaction in Shen Cheng's eyes.

Then she saw Shen Cheng open the ointment she had just placed on the table.

Shen Cheng was very worried that without her training, the Lu family's servants would not apply the medicine to Xu Shiyue properly.

Seeing that Lu Shizhen usually cared about Xu Shiyue and had a more thorough grasp of medical knowledge than others, she discussed it with Xu Shiyue and chose her: "In that case, Miss Lu, would you like to learn how to apply medicine to Miss Xu first?"
