The sunlight fell from behind Shen Yanxing, brightly filling Lu Shi'en's vision.
She looked at Lu Shi'en with calm eyes, and perhaps the light was too warm, which subtly softened the coldness on her face.
Her straight, long hair lay flat against her shoulder, shimmering with a silky sheen.
A simple reminder came from her slightly pursed lips, and her lowered eyelashes revealed a beauty that Lu Shi'en had never noticed before.
Lu Shi'en's eyes flickered, and she reached out and took the milk that Shen Yanxing handed her: "Thanks."
"No need," Shen Yanxing said, sitting down next to Lu Shien.
She glanced at the flower whose petals had been plucked off by Lu Shi'en and said calmly, "If you're unhappy, you can say so. The flower is quite innocent."
Lu Shi'en then stopped drinking milk, abruptly turned to look at Shen Yanxing, and said angrily, "What's it to you!"
"Isn't this my business?" Shen Yanxing asked calmly, his tone unusually calm. "You've already taken my milk. I thought you wanted me to come and keep you company."
"Who wants your milk?" Lu Shi'en said, trying to return the milk from her hand to Shen Yanxing.
Shen Yanxing, however, showed no intention of taking it, and reminded her, "Miss Lu, you've already drunk it, why are you trying to force me to return it?"
Lu Shi'en had never spoken ill of Shen Yanxing before. He snorted and simply ignored Shen Yanxing.
Shen Yanxing glanced calmly at the sullen, angry girl beside him, then said meaningfully, "If you're going to come all this way and get angry, you might as well not have come at all. But why did you rush to find me and ask me to bring you here?"
Lu Shi'en paused for a moment after hearing Shen Yanxing's words.
The situation was indeed as Shen Yanxing described, but she really didn't understand why she would be so worried about Lu Shizhen after hearing that something had happened to her. She answered hastily, "I just didn't want my project to die before it even started, so I came to see if she was still alive."
Shen Yanxing, however, analyzed for Lu Shien with a businessman's mindset: "Actually, if Teacher Sixteen had died in this accident, the public opinion would have created a great opportunity for your joint work as her posthumous piece, and it would have sold exceptionally well."
As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Yanxing felt a cold arrow being shot at him from the side.
Lu Shi'en glared at her without saying a word.
Shen Yanxing immediately feigned innocence: "What? You, Miss Lu, can yell at Teacher Sixteen, but I'm not allowed to make this assumption? Aren't you being a little protective..."
"What are you protecting!" Shen Yanxing was interrupted by Lu Shien before she could finish speaking, as if she was afraid of being exposed.
Before he could finish speaking, Lu Shi'en seized the opportunity to launch an attack: "I just don't like you money-grubbing businessmen who can abandon your conscience for money."
Shen Yanxing didn't mind Lu Shien's straightforward indignation and pressed on, "But if Sixteen really dies, you won't have to worry about your sister being replaced, right?"
Whether it was because the word "death" was too heavy and vicious, or for some reason that even Lu Shien herself didn't understand, she didn't want to associate this word with the woman who shared the same name as her sister.
After some hesitation, Lu Shi'en finally managed to utter two words: "No."
"Why?" Shen Yanxing pressed on.
“Because she’s a good person,” Lu Shi’en blurted out. “She helped me so much this time, staying up all night and working overtime to finish the artwork for this collaboration. She shouldn’t…”
Lu Shi'en paused as if braking, just as he was about to say what he was about to say.
She looked at Shen Yanxing in astonishment, only then realizing that she had been tricked by this person.
This person is clearly using irony to provoke themselves into revealing their true thoughts.
But the more this happened, the more Lu Shi'en felt like he was standing on a swaying bridge.
She kept repeating "but," but couldn't come up with a reason for the change of heart.
It's like two owners leaving their puppy in the middle of the road and then running off in different directions to see which one the puppy will go with.
Lu Shi'en felt that if she also accepted Sixteen, she would be letting her sister down. Her sister had been so good to her, especially during the last six months.
Her sister is the best sister in the world.
"My sister will definitely come back. I will protect her position for her." Lu Shi'en said this stubbornly to Shen Yanxing, as if giving himself a reminder over and over again.
However, this is not a simple multiple-choice question where going east means you can't go west.
Shen Yanxing lowered her eyes and said calmly, "But, whether now or in the future, no one can replace your sister's position."
“Lu Shizhen will always be your sister, and she will always be your mother’s daughter.” Shen Yanxing said in a flat tone, “Auntie is just concerned about Sixteen. Lu Shizhen is the child born from her body. How could she find someone to replace her? No one can replace her.”
"The concept of 'first impression' is quite mysterious. You can't describe it, and it's not like your program, where you can understand it completely once you figure it out."
As Shen Yanxing spoke, he calmly turned his head to look at the little girl sitting next to him.
Those slightly brown eyes seemed to possess a magical power to calm people down, as if they had touched Lu Shi'en's forehead and instantly stabilized the suspension bridge where Lu Shi'en was standing.
"You can be steadfast, but you can also loosen up occasionally. A great river can only flow continuously if new branches join it, can't it?"
Shen Yanxing asked softly, while the flower held in Lu Shien's hand twirled in the wind.
The intimidating aura that had just been displayed with arms outstretched has vanished, replaced by a calm silence, as if lost in thought.
Shen Yanxing didn't know what she was thinking, but suddenly she felt something fall on her ear and hair.
Lu Shi'en turned her back, her hands now empty, and stood up, reverting to her usual haughty demeanor: "Here you go, as a gift for keeping me company."
The wind stirred up a flurry of branches, and Shen Yanxing caught a whiff of an indescribable floral fragrance.
She watched Lu Shien's light and quick steps, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the flower that Lu Shien had been ravaging for quite some time.
She put them on her ears like that.
Shen Yanxing lowered his eyes slightly, and the corners of his straight lips curved up slightly unnoticed.
Because Lu Shizhen redeemed the health recovery item in the system shop, her health is now better than at any time in the past five years.
That's why if she stays in the hospital any longer, her secret will be exposed.
However, Cheng Meiyan's desire to take care of Lu Shizhen was too strong. Xu Shiyue had helped Lu Shizhen cover up her identity before, so she simply offered to take Lu Shizhen back to her home to take care of her, so that Cheng Meiyan could feel at ease.
The scenery in spring truly changes every day, with lush green leaves swaying in the wind, creating waves like the sea.
Lu Shizhen rode in Xu Shiyue's car back to the villa where she used to live. Although it wasn't exactly a long time since she had been away, she still missed it.
"Go upstairs and rest for a bit. I'll call you when it's time for dinner." Xu Shiyue put her arm around Lu Shizhen's waist without any hesitation, her tone intimate.
I don't know if it's because my role has changed, or if the actions of the character from the restaurant bar are too obvious.
Lu Shizhen glanced at Aunt Sun not far away with some apprehension, then turned her gaze back to Xu Shiyue and whispered in her ear, "I know, but you also need to remember to be mindful of your behavior."
Upon hearing this, Xu Shiyue glanced at Aunt Sun, her eyes crinkling into a smile, and lowered her hand: "Okay."
"Then I'll go upstairs," Lu Shizhen said, preparing to leave.
But just before leaving, she deliberately teased Xu Shiyue by calling her name, "Shiyue," in her ear.
A sudden tingling sensation ran through Xu Shiyue's ears.
By the time she realized what was happening and tried to grab the person, Lu Shizhen had already reached the stairwell, making it impossible to catch her and leaving those left behind itching to grab her.
Lu Shizhen was indeed walking very fast, and it even felt like she was running away.
In just a few seconds, she was standing in front of the door of her old room.
With a touch of solemnity, Lu Shizhen took a light breath before pushing open the door to her room.
Just like the villa itself, time seems to have stood still. The rooms are furnished exactly as they were, spotless and immaculate, as if someone has always lived there. Yet, because they are so tidy, you can't tell that anyone has ever lived here.
Just like every day before, Lu Shizhen skillfully lay down on her bed after returning to her room.
The soft mattress seemed to want her to sink into it completely, but she also faintly smelled a familiar scent that was different from the room's ambiance.
It's faint, like a small white flower bud waiting to bloom in spring.
Dew-laden, it carries a unique scent on the wind.
It's the scent that Xu Shiyue left on this.
Over time, she would come to this room where she had lived, trying her best to minimize her presence, greedily and cautiously letting the room's scent envelop her.
It's as if I've always been there.
Lu Shizhen gently inhaled Xu Shiyue's scent, her eyelashes slightly lowered.
She felt she needed to give Xu Shiyue some compensation, enough to make up for all the compensation she had received over the years.
Lu Shizhen sat up in bed, looking somewhat troubled. During her brainstorming session, she seemed to have an idea. She took out her tablet from her bag and secretly started searching for something in the room where she was all alone.
Time slowly passed, and the afterglow of the setting sun filled the entire window.
Lu Shizhen's face was flushed red, as if reflecting the setting sun.
"Ta-da!"
Ouch!
Just then, a knocking sound suddenly rang out in the room.
Lu Shizhen was so engrossed in what she was doing that she was startled by the sound and accidentally dropped the tablet, smashing it straight into her face.
The pain, which she couldn't hold back, rang out. Xu Shiyue, who was outside the door, walked in with a fruit platter: "What's wrong?"
Lu Shizhen rubbed her nose in pain and said, "It's nothing, I just got hit by the tablet."
"How could you be so careless?" Xu Shiyue said, reaching out to help Lu Shizhen put away her tablet, but Lu Shizhen, feeling guilty, quickly said, "Um, no—"
But it was too late. Xu Shiyue flipped the tablet over a second before Lu Shizhen made her attempt to cover herself.
The words connected by ellipses were reflected intermittently in her pupils, so fragmented that they couldn't even form a complete sentence.
For some reason, Xu Shiyue seemed quite interested in this kind of literature, and smiled slightly with her eyes lowered.
Then, she placed the tablet in her hand on the bedside table and leaned closer to Lu Shizhen to comment, "Teacher Sixteen is so smart; this way, there's no need to worry about it affecting anything."
