Chapter 24

"What?" Lu Shizhen jumped up from her chair upon hearing Xu Shiyue's words.

Unlike Xu Shiyue, she was not calm and got up to walk towards the door.

Xu Shiyue followed behind her, walking rather slowly.

Her ankle was already sprained, and it hadn't fully recovered in the last two days.

I noticed Yuanzi was not feeling well and rushed over, putting a lot of pressure on my ankle. Now it hurts again and I can't keep up with Lu Shizhen's pace at all.

The dim light illuminated the dark corridor, and Xu Shiyue's slow steps added a layer of anxiety to her heart.

Although she knew that Lu Shizhen had already gone, she was still worried.

She didn't want to lose anything more.

The green and yellow leaves outside the window are being battered by the night wind, and the pain becomes more pronounced as my pace quickens.

Xu Shiyue walked calmly to the stairs at the end of the corridor. Just as she was about to step down the first step, a warm touch landed on her arm, supporting the weight of half her body on her ankle.

"It's me." Before Xu Shiyue could ask any questions, Lu Shizhen introduced herself.

She walked up one step and stood next to Xu Shiyue, asking, "Does your ankle hurt more?"

A hint of surprise flashed across Xu Shiyue's face.

It's unclear whether it was because Lu Shizhen suddenly appeared, or because Lu Shizhen actually saw through his disguise.

Although she was reluctant to admit it, Xu Shiyue paused for a moment and then nodded: "Mm."

Xu Shiyue had no idea that Lu Shizhen could speak so accurately because of her ears.

Perhaps because she longed for a good pair of legs, Lu Shizhen always had the habit of observing everyone's legs, and even the way they walked. Over time, she could not only tell who someone was, but also whether there was a problem with their legs.

But when Lu Shizhen turned around to look for Xu Shiyue, she saw that he was still as calm as ever.

For some reason, she suddenly thought of the animal documentaries she used to watch when she was bored.

They say that felines are good at hiding and have a threshold for negative feelings such as pain that is several times higher than that of humans.

It's as if as long as they don't show it, nothing happens, and their natural enemies won't see through their disguise and die a violent death.

Lu Shizhen knew who Xu Shiyue's nemesis was, and her eyelashes drooped slightly.

Somewhat frustrated.

But with negative points on the table, it's understandable that they might not be trusted.

Emotions always come and go quickly for Lu Shizhen. She then let Xu Shiyue lean on her arm and said, "I'll help you down. Don't rush. Yuanzi will feel guilty if she sees this."

She wanted her to know that there were no more natural enemies in this place.

This is not the first time Lu Shizhen has acted as Xu Shiyue's "guide cane".

The girl's cool palm pressed against the warm skin, the warmth conveyed feeling more like a demand from one side to the other.

Lu Shizhen maintained a respectful distance from Xu Shiyue, allowing her to confidently place the pressure of her left leg on Xu Shiyue's arm.

Trust that may have collapsed needs to be rebuilt little by little. Xu Shiyue hesitated for a moment this time, but did not refuse.

It didn't take the two of them long to go down from the second floor to the first floor. As soon as Xu Shiyue stood still, the light came on in the dim light.

Lu Shizhen first turned on the control light with a deft movement, and then helped Xu Shiyue walk towards Yuanzi's nest under the French window.

As the lights came on, Yuanzi realized that someone had appeared.

It lay there in its nest, raising its head as it followed the sound.

The movement didn't seem too strenuous, but the tail didn't wag as usual.

However, from its perspective, the first thing it saw was Xu Shiyue.

Its behavior suggests that it is worried about frightening its blind owner.

Yuanzi just watched like that until Lu Shizhen walked over and sat down next to it.

The familiar warmth of her hand gently stroked its head, and the dog felt safe, so it whimpered and rested its head on her lap.

"Yuanzi, are you feeling unwell?" Lu Shizhen asked Yuanzi softly while observing its body.

I don't know if it's because of illness, but the short, light golden fur has become somewhat dull.

Yuanzi's head was resting on Lu Shizhen's legs, but her body was slightly hunched, and her dark nose was dry and hot to the touch.

Perhaps noticing Lu Shizhen's actions, Xu Shiyue said from the side, "It was awake when I came here. I touched the tip of its ear, and it had a fever."

Lu Shizhen nodded as she listened, but her brows remained furrowed.

As the saying goes, experience is the best teacher. Having been sick and hospitalized for many years, she has some knowledge about these things: "The main thing is that Yuanzi hasn't caught a cold these days, so it's possible that she has internal inflammation..."

“Yes.” Xu Shiyue nodded, which was also why she was in such a hurry to find Lu Shizhen earlier.

She remembered Aunt Sun saying that Yuanzi was a purebred dog.

Just as the two were talking, they heard the sound of a door opening from the kitchen.

Hearing the noise, Aunt Sun came out of the nanny's room: "Miss, what's wrong?"

“Yuanzi looks sick, and her condition isn’t good,” Lu Shizhen said.

Aunt Sun hadn't realized the seriousness of the situation: "Did it eat something bad and get a stomachache? It ate a lot of meat at noon. Should I get some digestive tablets for Yuanzi?"

"No, it has a fever." Lu Shizhen denied it, thinking of using her money again, "Can we still contact a pet hospital that's still open at this time? Or ask them to open."

“Yes, Miss.” Aunt Sun also noticed Yuanzi leaning uncomfortably against Lu Shizhen’s lap, and said with exceptional efficiency, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it right away.”

The clattering sound of slippers quickly faded away, and the peaceful atmosphere in front of the French windows returned to normal.

Lu Shizhen didn't just wait idly. Instead, she carefully reached under Yuanzi's arched body, gently rubbed its belly, and asked, "Yuanzi, does it hurt here?"

They had already witnessed Yuanzi's intelligence and understanding. It nestled in Lu Shizhen's arms and nodded in response, "Woo woo."

Feeling Yuanzi's tense body relax slightly, and knowing its response was genuine, Lu Shizhen confidently exerted her strength: "Then I'll massage it for you."

The gentle light blurred a circle of outlines in Xu Shiyue's vision.

The colors of her memories surged up, adding color to her current gloom.

The spoiled and annoying young lady who had always been seen as a playboy in her eyes was now squatting down with her "precious and precious" body and personally rubbing Yuanzi's stomach.

Putting aside the fact that she's a spoiled rich girl, even the servants in the house would hardly be as attentive as she is at this moment.

This person's "unpredictable mood swings" transformed into a gentle quality at this moment, pure and without any underlying morbidity or feigned gentleness.

It's as if her recent gentleness towards me wasn't a pretentious attempt to please me, but rather a natural expression of her true feelings.

This undoubtedly refreshed Xu Shiyue's understanding of this person once again.

The pure light from the living room illuminated Xu Shiyue's vision. She stared at the shadowy figure in her line of sight, feeling that there was something different about Lu Shizhen in front of her.

But then they asked her what made her different.

"Its stomach hurt a little, but after rubbing it, it looks much better now, and its eyes are brighter than before."

As Xu Shiyue was thinking this, Lu Shizhen's voice brought her back to reality.

As if to put her mind at ease, she shared her judgment with herself.

Upon hearing this, Xu Shiyue calmly withdrew her gaze, gave a faint "hmm," and deduced, "Aunt Sun just said that it ate too much at noon, so it's possible that it ate something bad and developed gastroenteritis."

“Yes.” Lu Shizhen nodded in agreement.

The two people reached the same conclusion, and for some reason, Xu Shiyue breathed a sigh of relief.

She remained half-squatting in the blurry world, not daring to squat down and touch Yuanzi.

She can't see it, and she can't do it.

The moonlight reflected the scene inside the room onto the windowpane, and the girl standing to the side looked rather lonely.

Just then, Xu Shiyue suddenly felt her hand, which was hanging by her side, being pulled up.

The hand, carrying a familiar warmth, drew me to the slightly warm, short downy surface.

Xu Shiyue could feel Yuanzi's slightly rapid breathing, and heard Lu Shizhen's voice in her ear: "You should pet it too. You are its owner, and it might feel better if it senses your care."

Xu Shiyue was stunned for a moment, then remained silent.

This person was always so impetuous and rude, yet by sheer chance, he filled the void she had felt just moments before.

It gives the impression that she knows exactly what she wants.

Just then, Aunt Sun hurried back with her phone in hand.

She spoke quickly, calling out to another live-in maid while instructing Lu Shizhen, "Miss, I've already called the nearest veterinary hospital. The director there said he's on his way and should be able to open the door for us in about fifteen minutes."

"I've already told the driver to bring the car out. Let's hurry up and set off with Yuanzi."

Without further ado, Lu Shizhen quickly nodded: "Okay."

Aunt Sun and the maid worked together swiftly and efficiently to lift the 60-plus-pound Yuanzi.

The crisp, hurried footsteps gradually faded away, and the room seemed to return to the quiet of the night. Xu Shiyue suddenly felt the lights in her vision dim.

It seems that Lu Shizhen and the others have left.

Xu Shiyue blinked lightly, as if something had fallen and tugged at her heart.

It makes sense. Yuanzi's condition is so critical, it's already difficult enough for them to take care of just Yuanzi. Why would they want to carry on with a blind burden like themselves?

A pet hospital is not home; if she goes there, she won't be able to help much and may even become an obstacle.

Given how tense Yuanzi was just now, even if it had some major problem, Lu Shizhen wouldn't easily give up on it.

It shouldn't be a problem if she doesn't go with us.

Probably.

The moonlight cast a faint glow on the glass, casting a dim shadow on Xu Shiyue's eyes.

Then she felt a familiar force on her wrist. Lu Shizhen's voice was tinged with doubt and domineering as she reached out and grabbed her wrist: "What, don't you want to come with me?"
