The ghosts in the village were all ordinary people with weak mental strength, so the impact of merging with the memory fragments wasn't too great.
But it's never a bad thing to be cautious in such a strange place. Since there was a Taoist priest nearby, he decided to use him as an experiment and stuff these memory fragments into his brain.
However, Yang Cheng was stunned when he heard the Taoist priest say that these memory fragments were all filled with fear.
These ghosts were all incredibly ferocious. They were definitely vengeful spirits, if not evil ghosts. What were they afraid of?
At this moment, the ghost Taoist suddenly screamed, and a series of seven-colored halos flashed on his head.
Yang Cheng quickly reached out, his spiritual power transforming into a giant hand to completely envelop the ghost Taoist's body, but the seven-colored light scattered out through Yang Cheng's spiritual power.
The surrounding villages were enveloped by the seven-colored light and instantly transformed.
The once dark and gloomy village, teeming with ferocious ghosts, has been transformed into a peaceful and tranquil village, like a paradise on earth.
Yang Cheng glanced at his own body and let out a soft exclamation.
Those seven-colored rays were quite strange. They did not actually change the ghost village where Yang Cheng was before, but rather brought Yang Cheng and the ghost Taoist's spiritual power to a new world.
This small village must have looked like it was in the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic of China period. Many people had shaved their heads, but Yang Cheng could still see that some elderly people in the village still had braids on their heads.
During the Qing Dynasty, the saying "keep your hair or lose your head" prevailed. Although the Qing Dynasty was overthrown, some people still couldn't shake off the idea of keeping their queues.
Yang Cheng wandered around the village like a spectator, looking around and observing.
In the spiritual world, there is no concept of time. Yang Cheng didn't know how much time had passed in his spiritual world when two outsiders arrived in this quiet little village.
They were a young couple who had come to this small village as refugees from famine.
The man is honest and simple, the woman is beautiful and gentle.
Although the village was rather xenophobic, the man was a skilled carpenter, so he managed to settle down in the village.
They work from sunrise to sunset and live a relatively peaceful life.
One year, the village suffered a severe drought, all the fields and crops withered and died, and many people even starved to death.
Under the leadership of the village chief, the whole village pooled their money to buy five kinds of sacrificial animals to the Dragon King to pray for rain, but it was of no use.
After discussing it, everyone felt that the five sacrificial animals could not satisfy the Dragon King's requirements, and that a live sacrifice would be more sincere.
But the question is, who should be sacrificed?
There are only a few major surnames in the whole village, and everyone is related. Who would want to be used as a sacrifice? No matter who proposes it, there will be people who object.
It's unclear who first suggested it, but the villagers turned their attention to the visiting couple.
They were outsiders, with no roots or relatives in the village.
No one would object to using them as sacrifices.
So after discussing it, everyone decided to offer the woman from the couple as a sacrifice to the Dragon King.
As for why it was a woman, they didn't know either.
Since ancient times, women have been the ones offered sacrifices to the river god and the dragon king. They became the dragon king's concubines, and the dragon king would send rain when he was happy.
So one dark and windy night, several of the village's most notorious idlers and hooligans were chosen by the entire village to drink a bowl of wine before they were about to make their move.
They barged into the man's house, beat him severely, and tied him up. No matter how much the man cried out for help, the entire village seemed deaf and no one responded.
One of the thugs, seeing the man's wife's voluptuous and alluring body and her frightened yet charming appearance, was immediately aroused by lust.
These hooligans and idlers were all bachelors, and no one in the village wanted to marry them.
So they could only drool over young women and wives, and they also coveted the wives of men.
However, they had the desire but not the courage to act on it, and were afraid of being taken to the authorities if something really happened, so they could only make a few jokes.
But now this woman is going to be sacrificed to the Dragon King, so they can't even have a taste?
In addition, the men had been drinking, and their blood was boiling over them, so they didn't care about anything else and actually raped the woman right in front of the man.
They didn't even consider that if they touched the woman who was to be sacrificed to the Dragon King, they might be struck by lightning that very day.
The First Evolution
The man's angry curses and wails echoed all night long. In the end, his throat was completely ruined, and he could only make helpless "hoarse" sounds. He watched helplessly as his wife, who had been violated, was dragged away, tied to a pile of firewood in the center of the village, and burned alive as a sacrifice to the Dragon King.
Strangely, as the woman died amidst her wails, it actually started to rain.
However, the rain carried a chilling coldness.
The villagers, however, disregarded everything else and hurriedly grabbed buckets and basins to fetch water. The idle thugs were now treated like heroes, showered with compliments by the villagers.
The rainmaking was successful, and no one paid any attention to the man anymore.
The man wore down the rope on the ground, breaking it and also rubbing his own arm raw and bloody.
He struggled to dig out a box from the ground, and dragged his limping leg to the place where his wife had been burned to ashes, where he cried out silently.
The man opened the box, inside which was a roll of ancient parchment drawings, as well as various tools such as awls, hooks, and nails.
Some resemble woodworking tools, while others are more like instruments of torture.
The man is a carpenter, a family heirloom carpenter, whose lineage can be traced back to Lu Ban, a direct descendant from the Spring and Autumn Period.
