Chapter 43 Golden Night Mansion (Thanks to Regretful Hamburger for the generous donation)

The densely packed high-rise buildings created an extremely oppressive feeling. Yang Sheng felt this way when he stood at the foot of the buildings and looked up, as if he had some kind of megalophobia.

The task was simply to have him work as a security guard at the Jinxiao Building, but Yang Sheng wasn't told which building was the Jinxiao Building. It was completely nonsensical, so he could only ask around first.

The Imperial Guard Knife has been stored in his storage space, and Yang Sheng can retrieve it with a single thought.

Fortunately, the reward storage space is two cubic meters, otherwise it wouldn't even be able to fit the length of the Imperial Guard Saber.

In the center of several buildings, there is a row of old shops, including restaurants, hardware stores, and other shops.

Yang Sheng entered the nearest Youji Restaurant. In the open kitchen, the chef was frying a bowl of glutinous rice, but while tossing the wok, he accidentally dropped the large wok and burned his hand.

"Clumsy as a mule! I'll deduct ten yuan from your wages this month! Move aside, I'll do it!"

A middle-aged man wearing a loose yellow bathrobe and round glasses, looking disheveled and unkempt, pushed the chef aside and stir-fried a new bowl of sticky rice.

Add lard, stir-fry glutinous rice, toss in the wok and remove from the heat in one smooth motion.

Although it's just a simple bowl of sticky rice, the preparation process has a surprisingly smooth and beautiful feel to it.

Seeing the fat chef still standing there dumbfounded, the middle-aged man said irritably, "If you're burned, go rinse it with cold water. Are you standing here pretending to be a zombie?"

"You look so silly, I won't deduct your salary."

Yang Sheng walked in at this moment and asked, "Hello, may I ask which building is the Golden Cloud Building?"

The middle-aged man glanced at Yang Sheng, but before he could speak, an elderly man in a security guard uniform stood up and said, "Young man, are you here to work as a security guard at the Golden Cloud Building?"

Yang Sheng nodded: "Yes, and you are?"

As the old man gestured for Yang Sheng to sit down, he complained, "The property management finally has some conscience and is understanding of an old man like me, so they sent an extra person over."

I've submitted dozens of reports in the past few months, and I wonder if they just used them as toilet paper.

Patting Yang Sheng on the shoulder, the old man said, "You can call me Uncle Shui. I've been a security guard at the Jinxiao Building for over twenty years. Before, I was the only one working there."

However, as I get older, I have high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. Except for my height, everything else is tall, so I can no longer stay up late.

"Thankfully, you're here now. From today onwards, I'll be in charge of daytime patrols, and you'll be responsible for nighttime patrols."

“Okay, Uncle Shui, my name is Yang Sheng, you can call me A Sheng.”

Are there any issues to be aware of when patrolling?

Although the world hasn't revealed too many dangers yet, Yang Sheng has already become somewhat wary.

The worlds at the Yellow level are filled with martial arts masters from all walks of life, and then there's Yagyu Shinichi, who possesses the power of a ghost warrior. Heaven knows what's in the worlds at the Xuan level.

Furthermore, based on the mission description and the opening scene, it can be inferred that this world is likely dominated by eerie and supernatural creatures.

Compared to such bizarre things, Yang Sheng actually preferred hand-to-hand combat with his enemies, only feeling truly at ease when every punch landed squarely on his skin.

Uncle Shui took a sip of tea and said, "Being a security guard is nothing special, there's no need to be so particular."

"You'll come with me on a tour of the building later; I'll explain the procedures to you."

As he spoke, Uncle Shui turned to the middle-aged man and said, "Friend, keep the books."

Ah-you buried his head in the newspaper, too lazy to even lift his head, and just waved his hand casually.

Uncle Shui led Yang Sheng out of Youji Shop and pointed to the dilapidated building where the shop was located, saying, "This building is Jinxiao Building."

This place was very popular in the 1970s and 80s; the first to fifth floors were all dance halls and restaurants.

Do you know Hung Shing Lian? Back in the day, they were a well-known triad in Hong Kong. Their boss even booked this place for a private gathering.

"But judging from your age, you definitely wouldn't know. You young people can hardly imagine what that era was like; it's even more fantastical than what's depicted in Hong Kong movies."

Uncle Shui led Yang Sheng into the building, but as soon as they stepped inside, Yang Sheng felt a chilling aura wash over him.

"After its glory days in the 1970s, the Golden Sky Building declined and is now like a slum. The property management company can't even collect much money in a year, so of course they don't care about managing it."

But don't worry, our security guards' salaries will still be paid as usual.

I have a lot to do during the day, like opening doors, giving out keys, and receiving packages.

Nighttime is simpler; a patrol around 11 PM is enough.

Uncle Shui was talking incessantly, introducing each floor one by one, but Yang Sheng was looking at the situation on each floor.

However, the more he looked at Yang Sheng, the more something seemed off.

Some gate towers had roast chicken and white rice placed on them, with incense sticks and candles stuck in them, but the food looked as if it had been gnawed on by something.

Some doors were covered with yellow talismans, so many of them that they practically covered the entire door.

There was another house with its door open, and inside there was a memorial tablet, as if they were worshipping their ancestors. But when Yang Sheng glanced over, he suddenly felt that the person in the black and white photo was winking at him!

Just as Yang Sheng was about to take a closer look, Uncle Shui walked over and slammed the door shut.

"Honestly, you don't close the door in broad daylight. What if a thief comes in? If something is stolen, you'll blame this old man."

Uncle Shui muttered something, then looked at Yang Sheng with a slightly serious expression and said, "Sheng, you asked me before if there was anything I needed to pay attention to. There isn't really anything for a security guard."
