Chapter 501 Hughes

Outside the library, two junior police officers, Hughes and Lenser, were nervously holding their guns and monitoring the activity inside.

Count Nath was an old nobleman of the Assyrian Kingdom. Although he had been in decline for many years, his history could be traced back to the founding of the Assyrian Kingdom.

The Truth Society, an association founded by Count Nat, has been under police surveillance for some time because its members are all eccentric and act in a secretive manner.

However, based on this alone, the police cannot determine what crime Count Nat committed.

After all, the Assyrian Kingdom was relatively open and developed, with countless associations.

Well-known organizations include the Witcher Guild, the Alchemist Guild, the Astrologer Guild, and so on. Even fishermen have their own fishing alliance, and pig butchers have their own pig slaughtering association.

Count Nat has always loved reading, and even turned his family's book collection into a library. It seems quite normal for him to establish a Truth Society.

Moreover, many of those scholars seem to be quite mystical. There was even a madman who said that the world they live in is actually a sphere that revolves around the sun, which is ridiculous.

The Temple of the Sun is the abode of the God of Light; how could we possibly circle around it?

Such heretics must be burned at the stake.

Therefore, the police were only in a stage of suspicion and vigilance towards the Truth Society, and had no substantial evidence, so they only sent two young police officers, Hughes and Lenser, to monitor them.

However, Hughes always believed that there was definitely something wrong with the Truth Society, and he was even the first policeman to report that there was something wrong with the Truth Society.

Although Hughes had no evidence, he was convinced of it.

This is a policeman's intuition, the intuition of a future detective!

Suddenly, Hughes sniffed and his expression changed: "Blood! There's a lot of blood in the smell!"

Lenser sniffed it too: "Where's the smell of blood? You didn't drink too much of Mrs. Grace's blood soup at noon, did you?"

I think we should suggest to the director that he replace Mrs. Grace.

Our police station drinks beef blood soup five days a week!

Good heavens, we're police officers, not vampires!

And the beef blood soup is served with savory wheat porridge! How can wheat porridge be savory? It should be sweet!

While checking the bullets in his revolver, Hughes said, "Mrs. Grace's salted oatmeal is delicious, and the blood soup ensures that we get enough nutrition with that meager lunch budget."

Also, it's already quite an achievement that our monthly salary of one hundred copper kalpas can afford to hire Mrs. Grace to cook lunch for us.

If we replace Mrs. Grace, we might have to eat black bread and mashed potatoes every day.

Finally, get ready to take action!

Before Lenser could react, Hughes had already taken the lead and rushed into the library!

Lenser was stunned for a moment, then immediately cursed under his breath: "Damn it!"

But he only hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth, grabbed his gun, and rushed in after him.

Hughes and Lenser imagined what they might encounter if they rushed into the library: a crazed cultist, an enraged Earl Nat, or even all sorts of supernatural scenarios they couldn't even imagine.

But to their utter surprise, the library was unusually quiet.

Only Yang Cheng, who stood there watching them, and the blood on the ground, and... the corpses that looked like mummies after being bled dry.

Yang Cheng spread his hands at the two men and said, "I said I'm innocent. These people killed themselves. Do you believe me?"

Hughes hesitated for a moment, but then nodded and said, "I believe you?"

Yang Cheng asked with great interest, "Why?"

Hughes said in a deep voice, "Intuition, a policeman's intuition!"

"But sir, even if you are innocent, please come with us to the police station."

Yang Cheng didn't really resist, he just smiled and said, "Okay."

The young policeman in front of me was quite interesting. Despite the blood and corpses scattered on the ground, a horrific scene clearly caused by supernatural forces, he showed no fear whatsoever. Instead, he even dared to let me return to the police station.

I don't know if he's truly fearless or just a reckless fool.

In contrast to him, the other policeman was so nervous that his hand holding the gun was trembling.

The Assyrian Kingdom was the most powerful nation on the continent, and its official power was actually quite strong.

Yang Cheng did not resist communicating with official forces, and perhaps he could eventually obtain some intelligence that would be useful to him.

Hughes and Lenser, those two poor policemen, didn't even have a police car and had to walk back to the police station on their own two feet.

Actually, there are public carriages on the streets; that's right, not cars, but horse-drawn carriages.

The technological level of this world is not high. Although there is a steam engine, it has not been widely used in automobiles, and horse-drawn carriages are still the mainstream vehicles on the road.

However, public carriages are not cheap, and the police station will not reimburse them for expenses easily, so unless they are going to a place too far to handle a case, they have to rely on their own two legs.

St. Brand West Police Department.

Yang Cheng recounted everything that had happened in the library to Hughes, and a written record was made of it.

Of course, some details have been omitted.

For example, he didn't say that Count Nat had already summoned the Goddess of Truth, Heatherville; he only said that he had disrupted the formation in advance, causing them to die prematurely.

The police have already sent people to inspect the scene, and they will give Yang Cheng an explanation based on his statement.

"Mr. Cheng, would you like some dinner? Unfortunately, all we have at the police station is leftover beef blood soup from lunch."
