Grace had no idea what Yang Cheng was so determined to find that particular clue.
However, finding someone based solely on a name, especially in a place like an underground city, is impossible for anyone.
Yang Cheng stroked his chin and asked, "Since you all know that the underground city is a paradise for criminals and a breeding ground for crime, why doesn't the Kingdom's government do something about completely eliminating it?"
Grace smiled wryly, "There's no way to solve it. The dungeon is too big; it's almost impossible to solve it all at once."
Furthermore, the kingdom also needs to consider stability.
The dungeon is full of vicious and ruthless individuals. Even if the dungeon is completely destroyed, it won't be possible to eliminate those vicious and ruthless individuals all at once.
Once they come to the ground, it will be a huge test for the security of the entire St. Brand.
Therefore, the kingdom would rather watch evil fester in the underground than allow it to be fully exposed and brought into the open.
At this point, Grace hesitated for a moment and then said, "There is another reason, which is that some nobles need dungeons."
Many gangs in the dungeon are the underworld agents of those nobles, and some wealthy merchants also need to go into the dungeon to hire thugs and assassins.
Yang Cheng nodded in understanding; he was quite empathetic about such matters.
Without the protection of these powerful figures, these underground gangs would not have been able to develop.
"Do you know how to get into the dungeon? I'm planning to go in and see if I can find any clues about Andrew."
Grace nodded and said, "Some of our informants know how to get into the underground city, but Mr. Yang, you must be careful. It's easy to get in, but it's not so easy to get out."
After dinner, Grace had someone call Haji, the informant from the police station, over.
In reality, that guy was a professional thief who had fallen into Grace's hands many times. After being taught a lesson by the police, he finally behaved himself and started working as an informant for the police, reporting information to them.
“Officer Grace, you can just ask someone to do something, there’s no need for you to come in person.”
Haji was in his forties, with dyed yellow hair, hunched over, head down, and a sleazy look on his face.
Grace pointed at Yang Cheng and said, "This is Mr. Yang Cheng, our police station's special advisor. He is going into the underground city now, and you are responsible for taking him in."
Haji glanced at Yang Cheng, slightly embarrassed: "Chief, it's not that I don't want to take people with me, but we need a pass to enter the underground city."
I'm just an insignificant nobody; I don't have the ability to get another pass.
Grace sneered, "Incompetent? The police keep you around because you're useful. You can't even get into a dungeon, what use are you?"
The crimes you've committed add up to enough for decades to get you a prison sentence; you'll spend the rest of your life in the police station!
Haji quickly smiled apologetically, "No, no, no! I didn't say we definitely couldn't get in. If we can't get in from the front, we can take other routes."
"Mr. Yang, please come with me. I guarantee you'll be able to enter the underground city."
Yang Cheng followed Haji, turning left and right, until they arrived at an abandoned shantytown. Haji found an abandoned house, then lifted up a large pile of debris, finally revealing a dark pit.
"Mr. Yang, this is the entrance to the underground city."
Normal entry into the dungeon is strictly guarded. To prevent police spies from entering, a pass is required to enter.
If you don't cause some trouble in St. Brand, you're unlikely to get a pass unless you get sentenced to more than ten years in prison.
This is a small path I discovered earlier that leads into the underground city.
Haji bowed and scraped as he went in first, followed by Yang Cheng.
He never expected that an underground city would produce something like an ID card.
However, in St. Brand, an ID card proves you're a law-abiding citizen, while in this underground city, an ID card proves you're a criminal.
Yang Cheng followed Haji through the narrow cave, turning left and right, for about ten miles before the view suddenly opened up.
However, what appeared before Yang Cheng was a world that resembled hell.
Besides the various narrow passages, the entire underground city also has a huge, hollow space that resembles a town.
Huge stone pillars support a massive rock ceiling, from which self-luminous minerals hang, emitting a dim, pale green glow.
In dark corners, one can often see piles of skull remains and other unidentified bones.
The entire underground city was filled with a gloomy and dark atmosphere, and the smell of decay and filth permeated the air.
There were no buildings in the space, only simple tin shacks with simple plaques hanging on them.
Gangs, casinos, brothels, bars, human organ trafficking, illegal weapons, dark alchemical materials—everything strictly prohibited in St. Brand can be found here.
Everyone in the underground city was filthy because it was hot and humid with little water, making it impossible to take a bath. Everyone was covered in black grime.
These criminals had ferocious faces and exuded a fierce and violent aura.
Yang Cheng had barely glanced around when he saw someone stabbing another person more than a dozen times in the street, turning the person into a bloody mess, while the people around didn't even bother to look.
There was also a group of burly men who dragged someone out of the casino entrance, and before the person could even beg for mercy, their head was smashed open.
Sin, killing, darkness.
All negative forces are brewing here.
This place is practically a breeding ground for evil gods; you could probably summon any evil god here and gain immense power.
