People die and go missing every day in the West End, but most of them are actually unrelated to supernatural events.
Grace invited Yang Cheng this time because he was unsure whether this matter was related to supernatural powers.
The case is actually quite simple: a cleaner accidentally found a dead body in the sewer, but the body had been sucked dry, leaving no trace of blood on its body.
If it were just one case, it wouldn't be so bad. But in the past few days, more than a dozen bodies have been found in the western district, all of them with severe blood loss, and they were deliberately dumped in a corner.
These are just the ones that have been discovered; there are probably many more that haven't been discovered yet.
When Yang Cheng arrived at the Western District Police Station, Master Morton was already there waiting for him.
"Master Morton, you seem to have a lot of free time lately."
Yang Cheng greeted him.
Master Morton sighed and said helplessly, "I don't want to be idle either. I also want to conduct alchemical experiments, but I don't have the money. I need to save up for a while before I can conduct the next experiment."
Alchemists spend too much money. Master Morton, for example, has to find a way to sell some potions and other items before he can save up enough money to conduct the next alchemical experiment.
Director Grace rubbed his hands together, slightly embarrassed, and said, "I'm sorry to trouble you two again. This matter is a bit tricky, and I can't seem to find a solution."
Yang Cheng and Master Morton followed Grace to the morgue, where shriveled corpses were laid out, some of which were already rotten and moldy.
Yang Cheng turned his gaze to Master Morton: "I didn't sense any aura of alien power on these corpses. What about you, Master?"
Master Morton also shook his head and said, "Neither did I. These people don't seem to have died from supernatural power, but they definitely died from supernatural power."
Generally speaking, monsters that like blood include things like vampires, who are born with an extreme craving for flesh and blood.
However, these guys are too crude. Whenever they suck blood, they'll definitely make a mess of the corpse, unlike how neat it is here.
And as you can see, these people have no wounds whatsoever, and they don't even know how the blood was lost.
Only extraordinary individuals or other supernatural entities could accomplish this.
Yang Cheng was not as experienced as Master Morton in this regard, so he asked a very strange question.
What is the reason?
Master Morton was taken aback: "What reason?"
Yang Cheng pointed at the corpses and asked, "Vampires kill and drink blood because they crave flesh and blood, so what caused these people to die?"
Master Morton frowned and said, "I don't know. Some supernatural events happen for some purpose, but I don't find anything in common among them."
Grace chimed in, "I've checked everyone's identities. They're all civilians from the West End, a motley crew, men and women, with nothing in common."
Yang Cheng stroked his chin and said, "No, I think they do have something in common."
"Oh? What?"
Everyone looked at Yang Cheng.
"These bodies are all very young, the oldest of them should not be more than forty years old."
Moreover, the people living in the West District are all from the lower class. They sell their labor, so they are very strong and have good health.
The people who killed them didn't choose randomly; they would select those with strong blood and energy to drain their blood.
It may either be consumed by itself, or it may be kept for other uses.
Grace and the others were taken aback; they had never considered this approach before.
In other words, Yang Cheng himself possessed strong qi and blood, and had cultivated himself through martial arts, which is why he was so sensitive to things related to qi and blood.
But knowing this is useless if you can't catch the person.
Grace suddenly gritted her teeth and said, "These people were probably attacked in the middle of the night. I plan to impose a curfew in the West End and then send police officers from the police station as bait."
They're all young and energetic; they're definitely that thing's target. As long as Mr. Yang and Mr. Morton arrive in time, we can capture them!
Yang Cheng and Master Morton exchanged a glance. Grace's method was feasible, just a bit clumsy, but it was the most useful method at present, only it was somewhat dangerous.
Of course, the danger wasn't Yang Cheng and Master Morton, but rather the police officers at the police station.
Yang Cheng said, "Director Grace, are you sure you want to take such a risk?"
Not all superhumans can teleport. If we encounter danger and can't get there immediately, that would be very dangerous.
Grace said in a deep voice, "My men are not afraid of death. Besides, if we don't catch this thing, more and more people will die, and then panic will spread, and the whole West District will be in chaos."
Master Morton sighed, "I'll go back and prepare some protective amulets; they should be of some use."
Grace did not pressure his police officers.
After gathering the police officers of suitable age, Grace explained the situation to them directly, and then added, "Those who do not wish to join now can withdraw, and those who are only children can also withdraw."
Although Grace said that, not one of the more than forty police officers in the entire West Precinct who agreed to the conditions backed out.
Yang Cheng couldn't help but nod. Grace, this fat bureau chief, was very capable and had excellent character.
Although the West End is a poor neighborhood, the funding allocated to it from above is not small, enough for Grace to live a very comfortable life.
Grace could easily embezzle 90% of the funds and give the remaining 10% to her confidants; she could still live comfortably that way.
