Chapter 539 Ambition

The Alchemists' Guild held a position in the Assyrian Kingdom that was neither particularly high nor low.

They certainly can't compare to the Church of Light, but they're still much better off than those low-level demon hunters.

But how could such a large organization as the Alchemist Guild not want to move up the ranks?

This is also the main reason why Yang Cheng chose to join forces with the Alchemist Association.

Morton is now a director of the Alchemists' Guild, a position vastly different from what he held before.

Therefore, with just a word from him, Yang Cheng could have a secret meeting with Salil of the Alchemist Guild.

After taking Yang Cheng to Salier's office, Morton left.

Salil looked slightly paler and weaker than before. He smiled and said, "Mr. Yang, please have a seat."

Yang Cheng frowned slightly as he looked at Salil and asked, "Is the president experiencing some health problems?"

Salil didn't hide anything and nodded, saying, "There have been some problems. I haven't participated in any fierce battles between superhumans for a long time."

After the last match, my body couldn't take it anymore.

Also, because of the Hohenheim incident, I reorganized the Alchemist's Guild. Some people agreed, some disagreed, but things calmed down eventually. However, I'm finding it a bit too much of a drain on my energy.

Yang Cheng had long discovered that most of the extraordinary individuals in this world actually took shortcuts, caring little about their own cultivation and relying more on external forces.

Although the profession of alchemist does not rely on external forces, nor on cultivation, it relies more on one's own knowledge.

However, knowledge cannot be converted into lifespan, so Salil was already close to the end of his life at this age.

Yang Cheng said in a deep voice, "President Salier, I have a very important matter to discuss with you today."

"Have you heard about the recent events between the royal family and the Holy See?"

President Salil's eyelids twitched: "Of course I've heard about it, and it was Mr. Yang who played a part in it."

Yang Cheng cut to the chase, saying, "There's no need to hide the struggle between the royal family and the Church of Light anymore. His Majesty came to me personally, asking me to completely wipe out the high-ranking officials of the Church of Light."

The conflict between divine right and imperial power has begun, and the two are now absolutely incompatible.

"I've come to see you today for only one reason: I want to ask you if you're willing to replace the Holy See of Light and become the strongest transcendent force in the Assyrian Kingdom, and indeed, the entire continent!"

President Salil was a shrewd and experienced man. Although he had a vague idea that Yang Cheng had come because of this matter, he was still shocked when Yang Cheng said it so bluntly.

Taking a deep breath, President Salier said in a deep voice, "The Holy See of Light has been based on the continent for hundreds or thousands of years, and its power is deeply rooted. It is not so easy to deal with."

In other words, if the Church of Light were easy to deal with, the royal family would not have tolerated its development to this point.

The Alchemists' Guild wants to go further, and I also want to elevate the status and power of alchemists.

But I don't want them to go and die needlessly.

Yang Cheng said, "President Salier, you've got one thing wrong. I don't want to completely eliminate the Church of Light, I just want to eliminate its high-ranking members."

At that time, the Papacy will still be the Papacy, but divine authority will no longer possess the majesty of divine authority. Instead, it will be you alchemists who have risen to high positions through knowledge.

Alchemists pursue knowledge, not power, but knowledge can be bought with money.

Hohenheim had knowledge but no money, so he went to an extreme.

Master Morton also had knowledge but no money, which is why he hadn't been promoted to the highest level of alchemy despite being a senior alchemist for so many years.

And what about the Vatican?

Those charlatans who gained their power out of thin air are very rich, even to a degree you can't imagine.

Eddie, an archbishop of the West End, a poor area, ended up with five million gold coins after his home was confiscated!

This is just a gold card; the total value of other treasures, luxury items, and other things exceeds tens of millions of gold cards!

With that much money, how many alchemists could the Alchemist Guild train? How many advanced alchemists could be promoted to top-tier? How many inventions could alchemists create, changing the entire empire, the entire continent!

It can be said that those charlatans are hindering the progress of science and technology on the mainland and the development of alchemy!

When one giant falls, another giant will inevitably rise.

"Is the Alchemist's Guild willing to become this giant?"

Yang Cheng stared directly at Salil.

Although President Salier is very old, even to the point of nearing the end of his life.

But he still had ambitions, not his own ambitions, but his ambitions for the Alchemist Guild.

He had always wanted to take the Alchemist's Guild to the next level in his generation, but unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried, it was all in vain.

Just as Yang Cheng said, only when one giant falls can another giant rise.

How could the Alchemists' Guild possibly advance any further without stepping over the corpses of the Holy See of Light?

Salier let out a long breath and asked in a deep voice, "Mr. Yang, what do you intend for me, the Alchemist's Association, to do?"

A smile appeared on Yang Cheng's lips.

This old man was quite a character; he agreed to the bet almost without thinking.

This is actually related to the strength that Yang Cheng displayed when dealing with Homon Kulus.

An existence capable of slaying gods represents an extremely powerful fighting force, a force capable of overturning the mortal world.

If Yang Cheng hadn't spoken up today, even if Ulysses had represented the Assyrian royal family, Salil wouldn't have agreed.
