Yang Cheng was unaware that the Vatican had another trump card up its sleeve.
In fact, even the royal family of the Assyrian Kingdom did not know this trump card.
In their view, angels who truly exist in the world are already terrifying enough. If the Vatican could create something even more terrifying, it would be too perverse.
After resting for a night, Yang Cheng went to the Assyrian royal palace the next day to ask for the Spear of Longinus.
Outside the palace, as usual, Ulysses was there to greet them.
"Mr. Yang, you've arrived so early?"
Ulysses looked slightly uneasy.
Yang Cheng gave a half-smile: "That's the legendary artifact, the Spear of Longinus! Of course I'd be more enthusiastic. What about Your Majesty?"
"His Majesty is waiting for you inside."
Following Ulysses into the palace, Clough sat on the throne. Upon seeing Yang Cheng arrive, he even stood up and laughed loudly, "I really didn't expect that you, Mr. Yang, would be able to destroy the Papacy in such a short time, and even kill the Papacy's Seraphim. With your strength, Mr. Yang, you can even be called the strongest person in my Assyrian Kingdom."
Yang Cheng said calmly, "The title of 'first' is the most vain thing. Even if I am the strongest in the Assyrian Kingdom, there are still vast continents outside the Assyrian Kingdom."
I am known as the strongest person on the continent, and beyond the continent lies the endless starry sky.
To pursue ultimate power, you can't always think about being number one. Otherwise, once you finally become number one, you'll lose all motivation to move forward.
Clough exclaimed, "Yang Cheng's ideas are truly unique; no wonder he possesses such terrifying strength."
After exchanging a few perfunctory words with Clough, Yang Cheng went straight to the point: "Your Majesty, this time I'm going to take the Spear of Longinus."
The Papacy has fallen; you should now fulfill your promise.
Clough sighed and said, "Strictly speaking, the Papacy has not actually been destroyed. Pope Ubbs and Grand Master of the Knights of Judgment Robinson are missing."
The Holy City of Fingel, along with the entire continental papacy, has hundreds of thousands of loyal believers, the kind who would give their lives for them.
Therefore, I want to preserve the Spear of Longinus for a while longer, in order to prevent any trouble caused by the remnants of the Papacy.
Yang Cheng squinted and said, "Your Majesty, are you serious? Even if there are still remnants of the Papacy, do you think they can break through the palace's defenses and force you to use the Spear of Longinus?"
Clough shook his head and said, "Even a rabbit will bite when cornered. The Vatican is on the verge of destruction. Who knows what unexpected things they might do? So we have to be on guard against this."
"Mr. Yang, please don't be in a hurry. The Spear of Longinus is yours eventually; it's just that it will be kept in the palace for a while for now."
Yang Cheng stared intently at Clough and suddenly said, "Your Majesty, are you planning to renege on your promise and not give me the Spear of Longinus?"
Clough's face immediately darkened: "Mr. Yang, what do you mean by this? I have already said that I will not renege on my debt. How could the Edward family and the Assyrian royal family possibly renege on their debt?"
"The Spear of Longinus is yours, but it's only with me for a while. Even if you're collecting a debt, there's no need to be in such a hurry, is there?"
Ulysses rubbed his hands together, his expression somewhat conflicted.
He only learned this morning that Clough was not going to hand over the Spear of Longinus to Yang Cheng.
In Ulysses' view, Clough's actions were somewhat inconsiderate.
Previously, the Assyrian royal family had been pushed to the brink by the Holy See, and Clough was even on the verge of losing his throne, which is why they sought help from Yang Cheng.
Now that Yang Cheng has helped you destroy the Church of Light, Clough is actually going back on his word. That's really unethical of him.
However, he was, after all, the king, and Ulysses, as a subject, could only stand on his side.
At the same time, Ulysses was also somewhat worried, fearing that he might anger Yang Cheng.
He had personally witnessed Yang Cheng's terrifying strength in yesterday's battle; Yang Cheng was fully qualified to stand up to a god!
Why would Your Majesty resort to such petty tricks against such a terrifying being?
Ulysses tried to persuade Clough for a long time, but Clough remained unmoved, and there was nothing he could do.
A smile suddenly appeared on Yang Cheng's face.
He looked at Clough and asked with a slightly curious tone, "I'm really curious, where do you get the audacity to try and outsmart me like this?"
Ulysses should have told you about yesterday's events; he knows about your strength.
Besides Ulysses, quite a few people witnessed yesterday's battle. With so many people describing my strength at the same time, how could you still do something so foolish? Either you're genuinely stupid, or you have another trump card up your sleeve.
You're a greedy fellow, but not stupid, so you must have some other trump card up your sleeve. And that trump card is definitely not as powerful as the Spear of Longinus, otherwise you would have already challenged the Papacy.
So I'm curious, what trump card do you have that makes you dare to act like a rogue with me here?
"How dare you! How insolent!"
Clough's face immediately darkened, and he roared angrily.
Yang Cheng sneered, "How dare you? I dare to kill even gods, do you think I wouldn't dare to kill an emperor?"
Ulysses, standing nearby, quickly said, "Mr. Yang, calm down! We can discuss this..."
Yang Cheng, however, was too lazy to waste words and directly formed a hand seal, intending to use the Five Gods Moving Mountains technique to break Crow's head.
In fact, Yang Cheng had anticipated this scene long ago.
Humans are inherently greedy, especially for an emperor like Clough.
