Chapter Fifty-Six: Eight Sufferings (Thanks to the generous guild leader for the donation)

This was Yang Sheng's first time visiting Chen You's home.

As the old wooden door was pushed open, Yang Sheng curiously looked inside and saw that the house was cluttered with all sorts of miscellaneous items.

There were talismans, cinnabar, Taoist robes, a broken peach wood sword, an old inkwell, and a jumble of other things like copper coins, red ropes, incense, candles, and paper money.

Only two areas in the entire room were relatively tidy.

One is a formation placed in the center of the living room, with a Qiankun bag wrapped in talisman paper placed in each of the eight trigram positions to suppress it; there are five in total.

Chen You then retrieved the remains of the Mourning Gate Hanging Guest from Yang Sheng and sealed them with talismans, placing them in a specific location.

This formation is the one Chen You mentioned, used to suppress the yin energy of the ghost's remains.

Another place is in Chen You's bedroom, where a memorial tablet is enshrined with the words "Lin Jiu" written on it.

The memorial tablet was adorned with roast chicken and snacks, and it was spotless, clearly indicating that Chen Youhui frequently wiped and cleaned it.

Chen You rummaged through a pile of random things for a long time, and finally sighed, "It's gone, it really is gone!"

Yang Sheng asked in surprise, "What's missing?"

Chen You smiled wryly and said, "I never expected that the origin of these ghosts in the Golden Cloud Building would be that they originated from me."

Yang Sheng was stunned: "What!?"

“At first I didn’t pay much attention, but as we eliminated more and more ghosts, I suddenly realized that they seemed to follow some kind of pattern.”

Chen You sighed: "Mrs. He has become obsessed with the death of her child; this is the suffering of life."

Mrs. Pan wants to regain her youth, which is old.

Akin is ill.

Aunt May wanted to revive Uncle Tung, but that meant death.

Amei is someone who loves separation.

Liang Dong's incarnation as the Mourning Gate and Hanging Guest is a gathering of resentment and hatred.

Birth, old age, sickness, death, separation from loved ones, encountering those one hates, not getting what one desires, and the five aggregates in their intense activity.

These eight are known as the Eight Sufferings of Buddhism.

I once obtained a fragment of a scroll that had been passed down from a certain Buddhist cult, which contained a secret technique.

That secret technique involves using ghosts with the attributes of the eight sufferings to refine a secret treasure called the Barrier-Breaking and Form-Separating Relic.

It is said that once this item is mastered, it will possess immense power, capable of transforming life and death, and granting ascension to immortality in broad daylight.

Yang Sheng scoffed: "Ascension is a Taoist thing, why is Buddhism getting involved? It's all nonsense."

Chen You said in a deep voice: "That's right. Back then, that Buddhist heresy was also a practice that combined Taoism and Buddhism. They took advantage of the chaos in the world to stir up trouble."

But they do indeed possess genuine cultivation. The effort they went through to refine the Barrier-Breaking and Form-Separating Relic was so arduous; who knows what its final effect will be?

Now that the secret technique is lost, yet so many ghostly creatures related to it have appeared in the Golden Cloud Building, this is definitely not a coincidence!

"Then who can steal your secret technique, Brother You?"

Chen You pointed to his messy house and said, "Don't be fooled by the mess in my house. It's actually organized in a chaotic way. I remember where everything is."

I also placed some warning talismans inside the house, which will be activated immediately if anyone enters.

"Only one person could bypass these talismans to enter my room and easily find the secret technique."

At this point, a look of regret appeared on Chen You's face: "That person's name is Fang Yunhai. He is a sorcerer and a little younger than me."

He only knew magic tricks but not Taoist magic. He opened a Taoist temple in the basement of the Jinxiao Building, specializing in exorcising ghosts and evil spirits, and making money by telling fortunes and praying for blessings.

Fang Yunhai once said that he admired the great reputation of my Maoshan lineage and wanted to discuss some Taoist magic and spells with me, which I did not refuse.

After all, in this degenerate age, it is already quite difficult to encounter a fellow disciple, even though he can only be considered a low-level sorcerer, not a genuine Taoist.

However, I later discovered that this person had some ulterior motives.

He opened a Taoist temple to swindle money, and even raised ghost children to frighten some rich people, and then pretended to be an exorcist to subdue them, making a lot of ill-gotten gains.

Using magic and supernatural powers to do such things will inevitably bring retribution and backlash sooner or later, so I stopped having any contact with him.

However, I remember that when I was chatting with him, I mentioned the relic of breaking through obstacles and transcending appearances, and his expression was already off at that time.

In retrospect, Fang Yunhai had already harbored ambitions back then: to steal the secret technique and use the Jinxiao Building, a place where yin energy converged, to nurture the Eight Suffering Ghosts and refine the Barrier-Breaking and Form-Separating Relic!

After Chen You finished speaking, he immediately started searching through his room, finding talismans, a peach wood sword, and other items. He then pulled Yang Sheng up and prepared to go downstairs.

"Brother You, is there any need to be in such a hurry?"

Yang Sheng was actually worried about whether his mission would be considered part of the main storyline.

Although it's already dark outside, it's still earlier than my usual patrol time.

So if Fang Yunhai really has a problem, would killing him during this period count as completing the mission?

Chen You said with a solemn expression, "Aren't you in a hurry? That Fang Yunhai is a heartless madman. Who knows what else he can refine besides these Eight Bitter Ghosts?"

"It's already dragged on for so long, we can't delay any longer!"

Chen You and Yang Sheng took the elevator to the underground, but for some reason, the elevator could not go down to the first underground floor, so they had to go down the stairs again.

The basement of the Golden Cloud Building was originally an underground parking lot, but as the building fell into disrepair, most of the residents were elderly, infirm, or disabled, and few of them owned cars, so they no longer needed to park there.

Fang Yunhai rented the basement floor at a very low price and built a Taoist temple.

When Yang Sheng saw the Taoist temple built on the first basement level, he was still slightly shocked.
