Chapter Thirteen: The Clown, Ridiculous

Hung Sheng-Lian has lawyers who specialize in going to the police station to bail people out.

Of course, these kinds of lawyers are usually lowlifes with a bad reputation, which is why they work for triads to redeem people and make a living, earning them the nickname "scoundrel lawyers."

However, these scoundrel lawyers were quite professional when it came to ransoms. They completed the formalities in less than an hour and took Yang Sheng and the others out.

There were still a lot of Hung Sing Lian's underlings guarding the police station entrance. As soon as they saw Yang Sheng and his group come out, they rushed up and called out "Brother Sheng!" They even sprinkled water on them with pomelo leaves to ward off bad luck.

Although Yang Sheng didn't want to get himself all wet, he didn't refuse, as is customary in a local area, especially since his underlings were being overly enthusiastic.

They weren't sent by Uncle Chang.

Even if Uncle Chang did have such thoughts, he wouldn't care about these details.

Originally, Hung Shing Lian was a sunset gang. Apart from the three elders of Hung Shing Lian and some of Di Wei's trusted underlings, the other underlings were not actually living very well.

Not only did they lack profitable territory, they were also constantly bullied by members of other gangs.

When other people's underlings are bullied, their bosses help them, but when it comes to Hong Shenglian, all they do is cower and back down.

Therefore, over the years, Hong Sheng Lian has been like a stagnant pool, devoid of any vitality, and its underlings have been living in a daze.

It wasn't until Yang Sheng rose to prominence in the Dragon City Championship that he killed Ruan Feng, a double-flower red stick of the British Associated Press.

Then he led six men to raid Luo Rong, the strongest leader of the British Associated Press, and killed Nan Shan Hu Yao Hui.

This experience was like a legendary tale for these low-level gangsters, incredibly inspiring.

Therefore, compared to the old boss who only talked about prioritizing the overall situation and whom they rarely even saw, Yang Sheng was definitely more admirable to them.

This kind of thing is quite common in gangs; most Double Flower Red Sticks are earned through their own fists.

For example, Ruan Feng, who died at Yang Sheng's hands, also relied on a military dagger to conquer three streets in Mayoudi, which is why Luo Rong promoted him to the rank of Double Flower Red Stick.

Otherwise, even if Luo Rong were willing to support him financially, Nguyen Phung wouldn't be qualified to become a Double Flower Red Stick without prestige and achievements, given that he's a Vietnamese.

The scoundrel lawyer who redeemed them wore gold-rimmed glasses, was bald and sleazy, and looked like a refined scoundrel.

He yawned and said, "Brother Sheng, right? I've completed the task you guys were tasked with. I can go home and get some rest tonight. Come to the hall for a meeting tomorrow at noon."

Hey, it's not easy to make money from Hong Sheng Lian. They have to go through all the trouble of redeeming people in the middle of the night.

Did you know that lack of sleep can cause hair loss?

The scoundrel lawyer complained once and drove away, while Yang Sheng and the others went home to rest.

…………

After getting out of the taxi, Yang Sheng walked back to the small attic room he rented in Kwun Tong.

The already narrow streets were lined with numerous food stalls, with sewage flowing underfoot and dim, dappled lighting. Many poor people in the housing estate worked in factories during the day and would do some small business at night to supplement their income.

Compared to the brightly lit nights of Yau Tsim Mong, Kwun Tong, a poor neighborhood, is like heaven and earth.

Of course, this place is not bad. At least as long as the family is healthy, they won't starve, so it can be considered a place above ground.

The real underground is Kowloon Walled City, a cyberpunk world, a living hell.

Yang Sheng pushed open the creaking, dilapidated iron door and took out everything he had taken from Luo Rong's safe to check it over.

Besides some valuables, there were indeed many documents and reports inside, covering the procurement and sales channels of Luo Rong's counterfeit goods, and even price details.

Yang Sheng glanced at it briefly and was slightly surprised.

The counterfeit goods sales recorded here alone generate millions in profit per month, while the cost is less than one-tenth of that.

Moreover, Luo Rong also had other businesses such as loan sharking, finance, and film and television, and his monthly net profit was simply unimaginable.

No wonder this guy is so arrogant, he doesn't even take Chai Jiu, the head of the British Associated Press, seriously.

This money is enough to support the entire Commonwealth Press.

However, although Luo Rong was skilled in business, he was still somewhat short-sighted.

He came from a club background, so his perspective was limited to that small circle of clubs.

If he were willing to share some of the profits with Chai Jiu and the other bosses, instead of trying to become the gang leader, he could launder his money and become a businessman.

The British Associated Press will not only not become an enemy, but will instead become his secret reliance and helper.

Yang Sheng collected these items and put them in a file folder, intending to hand them over to Chen Wenyao tomorrow.

Having experienced two major battles in one night, Yang Sheng was utterly exhausted, both physically and mentally.

In his dream, Yang Sheng seemed to be enveloped in endless crimson.

In a moment, the Lin family members will come back to life and pounce on him to tear him apart.

A moment later, it turned into him being cornered in a hotel private room by the Lin family's men.

Whether it was a human or a ghost, Yang Sheng was frantically hacking and slashing in his dream, until the surrounding blood became increasingly thick, at which point he suddenly woke up.

Sunlight streamed through the dirty red curtains into the room, turning everything blood red.

I glanced at the time; it was already past ten in the morning.

Yang Sheng rubbed his head, put the documents Chen Wenyao asked for into his backpack, and went out to eat a bowl of cart noodles.

Cart noodles are the mixed noodles from Stephen Chow's movie "The God of Cookery".

It usually consists of thick noodles topped with toppings such as pig's blood, pig intestines, pig skin, radish, and curry fish balls, all of which are inexpensive ingredients, typical of poor people's food in Hong Kong.
