Chapter 229 Madam dislikes me?

Chen Zhizhou leaned over to her ear as if teasing her, and said with a smile: "It's okay, grandma doesn't like anyone anyway."

Just as he finished speaking, the old lady in front of him called out, "Zhou'er, why did your father suddenly become ill? Have you sent someone to investigate thoroughly? I'm afraid there might be some thief with bad intentions in our house who is deliberately harming him!"

"Mom, how can you say that be possible?" Mrs. Chen followed the old lady with a nervous look on her face, explaining with an embarrassed smile.

Old Madam Chen snorted coldly, looking back at the whole family with a look that looked down on the world. "It's hard to say. You are a weak person. You can't manage this family well. Look at what the housekeeper has done now that you are the head of the family. It's a disgrace!"

What a disgrace...

The old lady first scolded the two concubines, and then said that Chen's mother was not managing the family well, how lazy the servants of the Chen family were, and how the servants were as thin as chicks.

Gu Qing broke out in a cold sweat after hearing what she said.

But look again, everyone in the yard has a submissive look...

Gu Qing could only sigh in her heart now, thinking that she was lucky because her mother-in-law treated her like her own daughter. If her mother-in-law was even a little bit like her grandmother, she would probably not have a good life in the Chen family!

Chen Zhizhou, however, seemed unconcerned, occasionally agreeing with the old lady and nodding, "Grandma, your teachings are very true, but it's so sunny outside, it would be bad if you get burned by the sun. Grandma, why don't you come inside and talk?"

Chen's mother had already sent someone to prepare a banquet and was waiting for the old lady to come home to eat.

Later, someone was arranged to give her a medicinal bath and a troupe of opera singers were found to sing for her. If she got tired of the singing, Chen's mother at the teahouse in the north of the city would also make a call and ask the storyteller to come over.

Everything is arranged.

It was fine at first, but after dinner, when Old Mrs. Chen heard that Chen's mother had prepared a medicinal bath for her to welcome her home, she became furious.

"If you guys don't like me, an old woman, I'd rather stay at home and not bother you. I'll take a bath after dinner. Are you afraid that I'll die too long?" Old Lady Chen's face flushed with anger.

Throughout the whole process, the mother-in-law was being scolded outside.

Although Gu Qing felt sincerely sorry for her mother-in-law, there was nothing she could do.

"Mother, I...even if we were given ten times the courage, we would never dare to have any other dirty thoughts towards you." Mother Chen's lips trembled slightly, and tears welled up in her eyes.

The noise was so loud that Chen's father dragged his itchy body out of the bedroom.

Father Chen frowned, a handkerchief still covering his forehead, and looked at the old lady not far away with a worried look on his face: "Mother, you are so angry right after arriving. You are so angry. Anger is harmful to your health."

"Look at you, you really don't let your mother save a bit of energy. You are so old, what did the doctor say? How did you become coughed like this, even coughing up blood? Oh, are you kidding yourself? It's windy outside, and you ran out like this?" When Mrs. Chen saw her son like this, she didn't care about finding fault anymore.

Chen Zhizhou chuckled and shrugged helplessly.

He made the excuse that he was very tired from traveling for the past two days, and then he took Gu Qing and left.

Finally able to return to his own little corner of the world and hide away, Gu Qing gently stroked his heart with one hand and breathed a sigh of relief: "When my mother-in-law and father-in-law first got married, I'm afraid life was not easy."

"Actually, don't look at grandma as someone who is so sharp-tongued. She just has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. She treats mother like this because she is afraid..." Chen Zhizhou stopped talking halfway and blinked at Gu Qing.

Gu Qing naturally understood the deeper meaning of the words.

After all, the mother-in-law is not the original wife, she is just an extra wife...

The old lady was eager to protect her grandson, and was also afraid that the new daughter-in-law would treat her precious grandson harshly after she got married.

"But, wouldn't this be unfair to my mother-in-law?" A hint of worry flashed in Gu Qing's eyes.

Chen Zhizhou smiled and shook his head, saying to her nonchalantly, "You'll find out one day that grandma isn't some jackal, tiger or leopard. She's just a sharp-tongued person who refuses to give in. She's old, and if she says something you don't like, it would be better if you didn't argue with her."

"What are you talking about? Now that grandma has returned home, I can't wait to show my filial piety to her." Gu Qing raised the handkerchief in her hand and hit Chen Zhizhou's shoulder with a fist, not too hard, "You said you would return home within three days..."

"Madam, are you thinking of me?" As Chen Zhizhou spoke, the smile in his eyes became even more intense.

He walked up to her and grabbed Gu Qing's wrist tightly, then clasped her five fingers in his palm and held them tightly.

Seeing how the two of them seemed to be in love after a short separation and were so affectionate again when they met again, Cuiru followed behind them and kept grinning foolishly.

Cui Ru laughed so loudly that Gu Qing couldn't help but look back at her repeatedly, "What's wrong? Are you stupid?"

"Young Master, you don't know that you haven't been at home these few days. Young Madam, she has no appetite and has been lying on the table looking at the topographic map of the capital from time to time. She also asks the old people in the mansion how long it takes to get to the old house, where they have passed by, and what is there..." Cui Ru said while covering her lips with a smile.

"Oh?" Chen Zhizhou asked in a low voice.

Gu Qing was so shy that she didn't even notice that she was about to bump into the pillar behind her when she turned around!

Suddenly, a big hand stretched out from behind her and blocked her forehead at an extremely fast speed.

The unexpected action startled her.

On that beautiful little face, the cheeks were as rosy as the persimmons hanging on the tree in August.

She lowered her head and walked quickly into the inner room. "What nonsense are you talking about? I'm just worried about your young master. After all, it's such a long way. It will take several days to go back and forth. The world outside is so chaotic..."

She never mentioned the word "missing" in any of her words, but her words and actions revealed her inexplicable longing for Chen Zhizhou.

As soon as Chen Zhizhou entered the room, he hugged her tightly in his arms with both hands and refused to let go for a moment.

"You stink, get out of here quickly." Gu Qing said as he struggled to break free and tried to escape.

Cuiru was very tactful and quickly retreated. She pursed her lips with a sigh, and with a smile on her face, she closed the door.

Chen Zhizhou raised his arm and sniffed carefully, "Madam, do you dislike your husband?"

Gu Qing walked quickly to the tea table. She picked up the porcelain pot and casually poured a cup of tea. "Did you have a safe journey?"
