Ninghui Hall.
Chen's father and mother looked at Gu Qing and Chen Zhizhou coming in one after another, and keenly noticed something was wrong.
The two exchanged glances, and Mother Chen's face couldn't hide what was going on. Fortunately, Father Chen was more composed and consoled her, saying, "Don't worry for now. Let's see what happens to the two children first."
"Okay." Mother Chen suppressed her anxiety and waited for Gu Qing to approach. She pulled him to sit next to her and said, "I heard that you two just came back and haven't eaten yet. I personally made some food today. Come and try it."
Gu Qing looked at the table full of dishes. They all looked delicious and tempting. Her appetite was also aroused. She smiled and said, "Mom's cooking is the most delicious. Qing'er is in for a treat today."
"You child, you are always good at talking." Mother Chen's eyes smiled and she was delighted by what she said. But when she saw Chen Zhizhou sitting there with a stern face, she felt a little uncomfortable again.
Gu Qing ignored him and served Chen's mother a bowl of iced mung bean soup. "Mom, the weather is hot, you should drink more mung bean soup to cool down."
"Dad, you have some too." Gu Qing handed the soup to Chen's father, who took it with a smile.
Suddenly, his expression turned serious and he looked at Chen Zhizhou, "Why are you so stern during dinner? This is home, not your barracks!"
Chen Zhizhou has always been like this. Although he and Chen's father are father and son, when they talk, they are like a needle against a wheat spike, and each one is more stubborn than the other.
"Why don't you let me drink?" Chen Zhizhou ignored his father and turned back to Gu Qing.
Gu Qing was silent for a moment, not wanting to conflict with Chen Zhizhou in front of the two elders. She reached out to serve him a bowl, but was stopped by Chen's father, "Qing'er, don't worry about him, put it down."
Father Chen was furious.
What a bad habit this rebellious son has. He orders his wife around in front of his elders!
His Chen family has never had such a rule!
Mother Chen also thought that he was being unreasonable. "Zhi Zhou, what's wrong with you?"
"Qing'er is your wife, how could you treat her like this? If Qing'er hadn't risked her life to save you in Huaishui City, how could our Chen family be where it is today?"
Having said this, Gu Qing didn't want to embarrass Chen's parents, so she stood up and bowed, saying, "Father and mother, there is no grudge between your daughter-in-law and Zhizhou. It's just that there are so many military matters today that your husband is a little irritable."
"Really?" Chen's mother was puzzled. No matter how busy Chen Zhizhou was, he would never show emotion at the dinner table.
Chen Zhizhou's eyes were always on Gu Qing, and he felt even more uncomfortable when he heard her say that.
"Of course." Gu Qing smiled and pushed the mung bean soup in front of him to Chen Zhizhou. "I didn't ask you not to drink it. You don't usually like to eat these things."
"Then you serve it to others. How can you leave your husband behind? Madam doesn't care about me at all." Chen Zhizhou's words stunned the three people at the table.
Gu Qing's ears turned red, and Chen's father and mother were shocked and wanted to laugh.
Is this still his stubborn, rebellious son?! He's actually acting like a spoiled brat with his daughter-in-law?
Father Chen couldn't bear to watch this any longer, so he frowned and drove the man off the table. "Go back and eat by yourself, don't bother me here."
Gu Qing laughed when she heard this. Seeing that the father and son were about to quarrel again, Chen's mother put down her chopsticks and said helplessly, "Are you two enemies?"
"Old man, don't bother Zhizhou. Come with me into the hall to eat." As she said that, she lowered her head and patted the back of Gu Qing's hand, "Qing'er, your father was wrong today. The two of us old people will go in to eat. You can leave after you finish eating."
Gu Qing didn't stay any longer, nodded and said, "Okay."
In order to prevent the father and son from quarreling at the dinner table, Chen's mother pulled them away. Chen Zhizhou played with the spoon in the bowl, staring at Gu Qing.
The person opposite seemed to pretend to know nothing, and just lowered his head to drink the soup. His movements were slow and leisurely, more elegant than those of the princesses and empresses in the palace.
Chen Zhizhou was stunned for a moment, and suddenly realized that it was indeed unfair for Gu Qing to marry him.
With her talent and looks, she was more than qualified to marry the prince, but she chose to follow him.
"I hope you believe that everything I do is for you."
"I like you, and only you. I will live my whole life for you."
The words that Gu Qing had said to him echoed in his ears again and again, and Chen Zhizhou felt more and more uncomfortable.
Across from her, Gu Qing lowered her head and drank mung bean soup. The sound of the spoon hitting the bottom of the bowl made her feel irritated. She suppressed her impatience and drank it mouthful by mouthful, seeing that the bowl was almost empty.
Chen Zhizhou suddenly spoke, his tone carrying a hint of stubbornness and pride: "Have you finished drinking?"
Gu Qing frowned and looked up: "What does it have to do with you?"
"Are you full?" Chen Zhizhou looked serious, as if he really wanted to know the answer.
Gu Qing knew how stubborn he was, and was too lazy to argue with him, so she just replied, "Yeah."
"We're done eating, it's time to go back to the room." As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Qing was picked up by him. The sudden feeling of weightlessness in the air made her scream, "Chen Zhizhou! What are you doing!"
Chen Zhizhou walked briskly, carrying the person out of Ninghui Hall, all the way back to their courtyard, entered the main house, closed the door, put the person on the couch and approached.
Gu Qing was a little annoyed for a moment, grabbing his clothes and angrily said: "What are you going to do!"
"Chen Zhizhou!"
Chen Zhizhou stopped moving. The person under him was trembling slightly, tears streaming down his face. He panicked for a moment and hugged Gu Qing tightly: "I'm sorry."
"Qing'er, I'm sorry."
Gu Qing breathed a sigh of relief, not knowing why she was crying. She just felt extremely wronged. She choked twice and bit Chen Zhizhou's shoulder hard.
He felt pain in his shoulder, but he smiled and held Gu Qing's head: "If you like, use more force, it won't hurt me."
Gu Qing glared at him, then opened his mouth, feeling a little reluctant in his heart.
"What? Can't bear to let me go?" Chen Zhizhou spoke out her innermost thoughts. Gu Qing snorted coldly and said lightly: "Let me go."
"No." Chen Zhizhou hugged the person tightly, unwilling to let go, "Unless you are willing to forgive me."
"I was wrong today. I never doubted your relationship with Pei Shaoheng."
Gu Qing's heart ached: "You don't mean that? Then why are you asking me?"
Chen Zhizhou sighed: "I was too nervous, I'm sorry."
"I'm in a bad mood. You should go out and sleep tonight." Gu Qing pushed the person away, wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and sat up.
Chen Zhizhou pretended to be aggrieved: "Madam, how can you bear to see me sleeping alone? It's so cold outside?"
"It's summer now, and your reasons are too forced. I don't want to sleep with you, get out." Gu Qing hardened her heart. Chen Zhizhou was stubborn by nature, and if he always acted like this, she would only give in step by step.
As she spoke, she ordered, "Cui Ru! Move the young master's quilt to the study."
Cui Ru came in cautiously and moved Chen Zhizhou's things away with all her might. After a while, she came back and said, "Madam, everything has been packed."
