Chapter 150 Curiosity Kills the Cat
Those people almost crawled away.
Li Yong ran over and picked up his big knife. After wiping the blood off the wailing man, he looked at the panicked woman on the ground.
When the woman saw Li Yong, there was not much gratitude on her face, but she still looked at them warily.
This was the second time Li Yong had acted as a hero after coming out with Su Ying. He smiled in a self-righteous manner and said to the woman, "Don't be afraid, girl. We won't hurt you!"
Unexpectedly, after hearing this, the girl hurriedly got up from the ground and ran away without looking back.
"Hey, why did you leave like this without even saying thank you?" Li Yong was a little depressed.
"What are you thanking me for? Who knows if you will be the next person who wants to bully her." An old man sitting next to her spoke quietly.
Li Yong glared and said with some dissatisfaction: "Do you think everyone is as dirty as the people in your West District?"
The old man smiled and said nothing.
Su Ying turned to look at the old man, only to see that he was wearing a thin linen shirt with no one knowing how many patches were sewn on it. His hair and beard were all grey, and he was so thin that only skin and bones were left. His cloudy eyes were without any light, and the way he sat there looked like a dying man.
Su Ying walked up to the old man and took out a small bag of snacks from her pocket. These snacks were made by Uncle He. She liked to eat them, so she would carry some with her and take them out to eat whenever she thought of them.
"Food."
The old man glanced at Su Ying, took the cloth bag without hesitation, opened it, took out the snacks inside and started eating.
It seemed like he hadn't eaten such delicious food for a long time, and the old man's cloudy eyes narrowed comfortably.
Su Ying was not in a hurry. She waited until he was satisfied with his meal before half squatting down and looking at him and said, "The whole West District is like this. Is there no one to take the lead?"
The old man ate until he was satisfied and then spoke quietly, "Who cares? Who cares about the lives of us? Those who are capable have all gone to other areas, and the rest can only wait to die here."
Su Ying slowly stood up and continued walking towards the west district. As she walked in, she discovered that the distance between the houses here was much narrower than that in the east district, and many houses were crowded together.
Hu Wei said that this area was previously governed by the Gu Clan, and the Gu Clan was destroyed not long ago. It is impossible for huge changes to take place here in a short period of time. It can only be said that this place looked like this when the Gu Clan was in control.
The people of the Gu tribe only regard the people here as breeding tools for Gu worms, and do not regard them as human beings.
"What are you doing? Where are you taking the child? You can't take him away!"
On the narrow road, a man suddenly came out dragging a half-grown boy, and the woman behind him cried and shouted as she chased after him.
The man's face was dirty, his eyes were bloodshot, and his eyeballs were full of red bloodshot. "This kid can't do anything at home except eating. If he is sold to another district, he can be exchanged for one or two taels of silver."
"Don't sell it, please don't sell the child..." The thin woman ran up and grabbed the child's hand, begging bitterly.
The child was being pulled by two people, his face was numb, without any trace of innocence that was typical of his age.
"Stupid woman, if you get in the way again I'm going to beat you to death!" The man raised his hand and slapped the woman in the face.
The woman was beaten to the ground and could not get up for a long time.
"How much do you want for this child?"
When the man turned around, Su Ying blocked his way.
The man looked her up and down and laughed contemptuously, "How much do you want to spend, young lady?"
Su Ying said expressionlessly: "I'll give you as much as you want."
The man raised his hand greedily, "Five taels of silver."
"Okay, Li Yong, give me the money."
Li Yong exclaimed, Madam Su, didn’t you buy the person? Why do you want him to pay?
He had saved up this little bit with great difficulty!
Although he was reluctant, under Su Ying's indifferent gaze, Li Yong still took out five taels of silver and handed it to the man.
"From now on, this kid will be my man."
The man smiled immediately when he got the silver, "Your man, your man, hahaha." The man walked away happily holding the silver.
When the woman on the ground saw that her son had been bought, the despair on her face became even more intense.
"What will your husband do with the money?"
When the woman heard Su Ying's question, she choked up and said, "Buy the immortal wine."
"Magic wine?"
"Yes, he spent all the money in the house on buying magic wine."
"What is that?"
The woman shook her head, "I only know it's a kind of alcoholic drink, and if you drink it, it makes you very happy, without any pain."
"Where?"
The woman stretched out her trembling hand and pointed to a narrow street ahead.
Su Ying nodded in understanding, "Let's go."
"Madam, please, please give my son back to me, please give my son back to me..." The woman crawled to Su Ying and begged continuously.
"He paid for it. If you want something, just ask him." Su Ying said and left without looking back.
The woman looked at Li Yong.
Li Yong looked at Su Ying, then at the half-grown child, and finally gritted his teeth and said, "If you want to find your son in the future, go to Tiger Camp in the East District." After saying that, he took the child and ran away. If the child was left behind, he would be sold again sooner or later, so there was no point in going back.
The woman watched her son being dragged away, then she fell to the ground and wailed.
Su Ying followed the direction the woman pointed and after going around the narrow street, she saw a large group of people sitting on both sides of the street. Each of them was holding a wine cup in their hands and drinking intoxicatedly.
At the very end of the street, there is a tavern, and the wine in these people's hands came from this tavern.
When Su Ying walked into the tavern, she saw the man who had sold his child just now walking out happily with a cup of wine in his hand. He couldn't wait to take a sip before he even left the house.
The wine seller was an old man with white hair and beard, and he was serving wine to people.
Su Ying asked, "How much is one cup?"
The old man said without even looking up: "One hundred big bucks."
"Give me a cup."
The old man slowly raised his head and glanced at Su Ying. Seeing that she looked unfamiliar, he looked her up and down and asked, "Where are you from, young lady?"
"You sell things in different places?"
The old man laughed and said, "It doesn't matter, but not everyone can drink this wine. If you haven't had it before, don't try it."
Su Ying took out half a penny from her pocket and said, "I'm curious. Give me a cup."
The old man no longer refused and turned to get some wine. "Curiosity kills the cat, and the same goes for people."
The turbid wine was poured into a porcelain cup. The old man put the wine on the table, collected the silver, and gave Su Ying change.
Su Ying took the wine and turned to leave the tavern.
Li Yong came over and said worriedly, "Madam Su, this thing doesn't look right. You can't drink it carelessly."
Su Ying shook the wine cup in her hand, sniffed it, and narrowed her eyes.
You really can't drink randomly.
