Chapter 65: Leaving the Gate
"Boss, we are all exhausted. Why don't we find a place to rest for a while?" After a whole day's journey, it was almost past midnight and Li Da had no intention of stopping. Not to mention the prisoners, even the officials who had food and drink could not stand it.
Li Da stared at him with eyes that were red from the wind and sand, "Stop talking nonsense. If you don't want to die here, just shut up and keep on going. If we can get to tomorrow safely, we won't be far from Yanxi Pass."
Seeing that Li Da insisted, the officer cursed in his heart but did not dare to stop.
"Help, help, help..."
Suddenly, a terrified cry for help came from the team.
When everyone turned around, they saw a prisoner with half of his body stuck in the sand.
The prisoners nearby were so frightened when they saw this scene that no one dared to step forward.
Two constables came over, threw a rope to the prisoner, and asked him to hold on to it and pull him up, but the constables' strength was no match for the sinking quicksand.
The people around just watched the prisoner disappear little by little in the quicksand.
The officer cursed and retracted the rope, "You all saw it. I'll say it again. If you don't want to die here, move forward quickly, otherwise your fate will be even worse than the one just now."
Perhaps the scene just now left a huge shadow in the prisoners' hearts. When they walked forward, even though they were too tired to lift their feet, they still gritted their teeth and persevered.
Su Ying, who was catching up with the team, frowned in disgust at the sight of the wolf king trapped in the quicksand. She dismounted, activated the bracelet of infinite power, grabbed the wolf king's neck and pulled him to the side, and a bunch of wild wolves were pulled out from the quicksand.
"Is it okay? Where is the Wolf King?" Su Ying glanced at the Wolf King.
The wolf king snorted at her unhappily and threw sand in her face.
Su Ying raised her head and slapped it on the head, "You beast, you want a beating."
"Awoo!" The wolf king bared his fangs and made an attacking gesture, but Su Ying slapped him again.
"Forget about it, just keep on going."
The wolf king growled, shook his body and started running.
Su Ying rode her horse and chased after him. He was clearly within the range of the sensor, but she couldn't catch up after chasing for most of the day.
The environment of this road was also too harsh. Many times the wind and sand were so strong that she had to stop and temporarily enter the space to take shelter.
Everyone traveled day and night, heading towards Yanxi Pass. At the moment when the golden light broke through the dark clouds and leaped into the sky, everyone looked up and saw a tall stone tablet not far away.
Looking at the three big characters "Yanxiguan" written on the stone tablet, Li Dale almost jumped up.
It was the right decision to take this shortcut, as they managed to get out of it in just one day and one night!
Not far from the stone tablet, one can see a towering stone gate, which is the Yanxi Pass. As long as they pass that pass, they will be out of the country.
The mission of Li Da and his men was almost completed.
Xiao Jin lifted the car curtain and looked behind the team, but still could not see Su Ying and the others. They would be leaving the border soon, so why hadn't they come back yet?
When Li Da arrived at the checkpoint, the guards stopped him.
Li Da quickly took out the documents and went to contact the officers and soldiers.
After the connection, the officers and soldiers began to count the number of people. Li Da followed the officers and soldiers and said, "Brother, there are three prisoners behind us. They may arrive later. I have to send this batch out first and come back to pick them up. If someone comes during this process, you can ask them to wait for a while."
The officer frowned, "Aren't we walking together? Why are some people left behind?"
"A prisoner got lost on the way, so they went back to look for him."
The officers and soldiers were puzzled. Why didn't the officers go to look for the lost prisoner but instead let the prisoner look for him on his own?
"Okay, got it. Take these people out quickly."
"Brother, do you have any water here? We have used up all the water along the way. It will take at least half a day to get the people out."
The officers and soldiers had some friendship with Li Da, so they asked someone to bring a bucket of water to Li Da.
After the officers had filled the bottles with water, the remaining water was given to the prisoners. No one got even a sip.
But for Li Da, this was already a good deed he did every day.
"Let's go, let's go. Once you pass through the customs, you will be free."
The officers and soldiers opened the gate and allowed Li Da and all the prisoners to leave.
"Master, why hasn't Madam come back yet? She's almost out of confinement." Mother Zhao and the others became anxious when they saw that Su Ying was not coming back yet.
Xiao Jin frowned deeply. In that instant, thousands of possibilities flashed through his mind, but in the end he still chose to believe Su Ying. She said that she would definitely come back.
"Please be patient. We will wait for her outside the customs after she passes through."
As prisoners, they had no right to stay inside the customs and could only wait outside.
After coming out of the pass, walk north for an hour or two and you will reach the entrance to the Northern Wilderness.
After leaving the border, all I could see was an endless plain, completely different from the desert Gobi before.
Li Da brought his people to a large net made of thorn barbs. Looking up, he could see an entrance next to the net that was large enough for a carriage to pass through. That was the entrance to the Northern Wilderness.
"Okay, I can only take you here. From now on, whether you live or die depends on your own luck."
Li Da waved his hand and had someone untie the chains on the hands and feet of the prisoners behind him. These chains had to be taken back.
After Li Da packed up his things, he led the officials and left.
Only the prisoners were left standing there at a loss, because many of them had just numbly followed the officers. The officers were hateful but they were also like their backbone. Now that their backbone was gone, they didn't know what to do next, where to go, or what was waiting for them in the northern wilderness.
"Master, what should we do next?"
Xiao Jin glanced at the people behind him who were gradually surrounding them, and a fierce look flashed in his eyes.
"Help me down, you and Tian Mu take the others in first and find a secluded place to hide. I'll wait for Su Ying here."
Cheng Ming was surprised, "Master, why don't you let me stay and wait."
Xiao Jin shook his head, "Help me down."
After hearing what Xiao Jin said, the two children came forward and held Xiao Jin, "Daddy, we want to be with you."
Xiao Jin looked at Mother Zhao with a gloomy look in his eyes, "Mother Zhao, please take good care of the two children."
Mother Zhao seemed to sense something, and with red eyes, she and Bai Shuang hugged the child tightly, "Master, you, you must be careful."
Xiao Jin lowered his eyelids to hide the strange color in his eyes, "Take all the things Su Ying left for you before she left, and protect yourselves."
After saying that, he took Cheng Ming's hand to get off the carriage, and slapped the horse with his backhand.
The horse felt pain and kicked its hooves, pulling the carriage away.
“Daddy, Daddy…”
Xiao Jin listened to the child's crying, gradually tightened the dagger in his hand, and looked coldly at the people who surrounded him.
