Chapter 59

The adopted dog is a local breed with soft brown fur that feels exceptionally comfortable to touch. Ye Chu named it "Citrus".

Citrus is incredibly energetic, running around the house every day. When Ye Chu takes it out, it's not Citrus that walks it, but Citrus that walks Ye Chu. Since Citrus moved into our home, Ye Chu has finally learned to cook one dish: dog food.

Watching her enjoy the tangerines, Ye Chu couldn't help but wonder if she might have some talent in cooking. So she bought a bunch of recipes online, intending to try learning them again.

Michael seemed to be very busy at work, at least much busier than Ye Chu. Ye Chu could only occasionally catch her coming home looking exhausted. Thinking about it this way, that rice noodle roll breakfast from that day seemed especially precious.

Ye Chu's fans have noticed that their idol has moved to a new house and gotten a pet, and is now practically becoming a pet blogger. If you don't believe it, just open her Weibo page; the pinned post is about adopting Ganju (a pet), and below it are all glimpses of Ganju's daily life.

“Every time I come in, I feel like I’ve entered the wrong Weibo account. Honey, wake up, it’s time to get active.”

"Waaah, Mommy's not happy. Although the tangerine is cute, it has taken over Mommy's precious daughter. Mommy is still so angry."

"Haha, Xiaoda was complaining in the group today that if things continue like this, her next video title will be 'My daughter and citrus, a cross-species couple'."

"Citrus fruits are truly a scourge to the country; ever since they came into our lives, my daughter has neglected state affairs."

"Why isn't the promotional event for 'Me and Her' coming up yet? My daughter needs to get back to work, this can't go on like this. A lot of new people who joined the group recently thought Chu Chu was a pet blogger. Look at the verification, sisters, Chu Chu is an actress now, I'm so sad."

"There's nothing I can do, my daughter's homepage is just too deceptive now."

Perhaps heaven heard the fans' cries, because the promotional work for "Me and Her" officially began on February 1st.

Director Zhang Wuyong, screenwriter Li Kan, lead actor Gu Yu, lead actress Ye Chu, second lead actress Fu Yu, and others flew to different cities for several days to promote the film.

On the plane, Gu Yu sat next to Ye Chu and asked, "I heard you adopted a pet? Its name is Citrus?"

Ye Chu perked up at the mention of the little tangerine: "Yes, actually I was a little worried about it as soon as I left home. Although Sister Ji promised that I would take good care of it, I still couldn't help but worry."

Seeing that the topic had been successfully raised, Gu Yu sat up straight: "It's all the same. Every time I have work, I worry a lot about my Peach."

"What is a peach?"

"I have a puppy, it's pure white."

Ye Chu looked at him in surprise: "Brother Gu, you keep pets too!"

Gu Yu was somewhat amused and exasperated: "Don't I look like someone who would keep pets?"

"Ah, no, that's not what I meant." Ye Chu touched her nose. "I just think it's quite surprising, isn't it? I've never heard of it before."

"Now that you mention it, I haven't mentioned Peach in public, nor do I seem to have introduced her on social media," Gu Yu said with a smile. "It seems I haven't been a very good owner, as I haven't given Peach a proper title."

Ye Chu was amused by his analogy and then asked him, "But why is it called Peach? Is it because it's a pure white puppy? I thought something like 'rice cake' would be more fitting?"

"Hmm." For some reason, Ye Chu felt that Gu Yu's eyes seemed to have softened. She had seen that expression once before, during the first snowfall.

"The person I like really likes to eat peaches, so I secretly gave him this name."

As expected. Ye Chu smiled, but felt a pang of unease. She inwardly berated herself for feeling jealous—jealous of the person Gu Yu liked.

"Then you must really like that person."

"I really like it." Gu Yu looked at Ye Chu and said earnestly.

Seeing his serious and determined expression, Ye Chu felt even worse. Judging from his expression, he must have feelings for that person that no one else could shake.

"I think the other person would be very happy if they knew." She tried to speak in a normal tone, but she no longer dared to look Gu Yu in the eye, afraid that he would see her unease.

"Really?" Gu Yu smiled. "But she might not even remember me."

"Um?"

“She’s someone I knew from childhood.” His voice was deep as he slowly recounted that memory: “She and I were neighbors, and she liked to come over to play. We would go hiking together, go to the amusement park, celebrate New Year’s Eve together, and build snowmen. She really liked a movie star back then, a big-name actor, and she said she would marry him someday.” Oh, and she also liked peaches and tangerines. Gu Yu didn’t say this aloud.

"So why did you enter the entertainment industry..." Ye Chu lowered her head, but finally asked the question that had been on her mind.

"Become the movie star she likes, and she can marry the movie star as she wishes."

This wasn't the answer she wanted to hear. Biting her lip, Ye Chu remained silent. She turned her head to the side, appearing from Gu Yu's perspective as if she was tired and needed to rest.

The cabin returned to calm.

Ye Chu naturally didn't rest. With her eyes closed, she was thinking about what Gu Yu had just said. She had to admit that when she came to the entertainment industry to get closer to her idol, she was never really just thinking about chasing stars. These days, which star chaser doesn't harbor a tiny bit of ulterior motive towards their idol?

At first, it was just a little bit; being able to get close enough to see was good enough. But after the first collaboration, greed grew. And then came this collaboration, and those ulterior motives could no longer be hidden; they all came out at once.

Unfortunately, before she could even take any action, the other person told her that he had someone he had liked since childhood, and that his entry into the entertainment industry and his rise to the top of the Best Actor award were all because of that person.

"What's going on?" Ye Chu thought to herself with a self-deprecating smile. How did this kind of cannon fodder female character script from an eight o'clock soap opera end up happening to her in real life?

After the plane landed, everyone took a chartered car to the scene. The car was lively all the way, with Fu Yu displaying her usual enthusiasm, and Ye Chu's sadness was temporarily put aside by the lively atmosphere.

The promotional event was lively, with fans cheering. Ye Chu also saw many fans who had always supported her. When it ended, the crowd bid her a reluctant farewell, and the group finally had a chance to catch their breath after returning to their car.

Fu Yu sighed, "Every time I see my fans, I feel both happy and scared."

"agree."

"Count me in."

Clearly, her words were agreed upon by many people in the car, and Ye Chu nodded in agreement. Then she saw Gu Yu, who was already resting with her eyes closed.

"Actor Gu has the most fans, he must be very tired." She heard Fu Yu say this.

Turning her gaze away from Gu Yu, Ye Chu looked out the window at the scenery, her thoughts drifting away once more.
